Even in an open convention, Gingrich wouldn't have a prayer of getting the nomination. But that seems to matter less to him than blowing up Mitt Romney.
Gingrich no longer says he can capture the 1,144 delegates required to wrap up the Republican nomination. Instead, he now speaks frankly about a new plan: Keep Romney from getting to 1,144 by the end of the GOP primary season in June, and then start what Gingrich calls a "conversation" about who should be the Republican nominee. That conversation, the plan goes, would lead to a brokered GOP convention at which Gingrich would emerge as the eventual nominee.
"Our goal first is to keep Romney well below 1,000," Gingrich spokesman R.C. Hammond said an hour before Gingrich addressed a small crowd of disappointed supporters gathered at the Wynfrey Hotel. "It doesn't have to be 1,000, or 1,050 -- it has to be below 1,100." If Gingrich succeeds, Hammond continued, "This will be the first time in our party in modern politics that we're going to go to the convention floor."

I think he’s staying in because he’s having the time of his life.
The worst that could happen at a brokered convention is we get another RINO shoved down our throats.
But we might not.
If his ONLY effect is to run Romney out of the race then I am all for it
I would rather see a Gingrich/Santorum team-up at the convention
I’m beginning to wonder if he is in Jeb Bush’s camp?
They will try to force a Mitch Daniels, Chris Christie, or Paul Ryan on us.
This has always been Newt’s biggest problem. He lets his enormous ego overshadow his intellect and competence.
I would love to see a brokered convention. I’m not thrilled with any of the remaining choices and we may well want to see what would come out of there that we could actually support. It certainly couldn’t be any worse then Romney.
So then, by extension, Newt and Rove would have to be co-conspirators??? (I don't think so!)
Go NEWT!!!!!
Perhaps Team Romney now regrets their carpet-bombing Bloody Thursday attack on Newt. Nah, those pricks are too arrogant to see that they brought this upon themselves.
Newt is a genuine Conservative hero for his efforts to de-rail Romney and protect the GOPe from its’ own stupidity.
Actually, I think a brokered candidate may be just fine, Romney, Newt & Santorum are not worth much anyway. I wish Ron Paul would contest the Democrat spot.
I think he knows by staying in he can come to an “agreement” with Rick. If Rick and Newt join forces at the convention would they not win by default? (assuming they have enough committed votes)
He is a historian and he wants to become a part of history, even if it can’t be via a presidential term. I am fine with this since I share the same goal... no Romney.
It’s only a spoiler to the establishment, because he’s spoiling their plans. They like to know what’s going to happen way ahead of time so they can manipulate things their way.
They have no idea what’s going to happen and their panicking. The voters aren’t going for their boy and they can’t believe they’re not laying down like normal.
Mr ego is. Mr ego, that is the way it has always been.

FORCE?? From you mouth to God’s ears. Any of those would be better than being stuck with either Romney or Santorum. It would give us a fighting chance.
I don’t know how a brokered convention works. When I voted this week, I also voted for delegates. Do the delegates get together and decide the nominee? Could Newt and Rick reach a deal where one will be prez and the other vice prez and directed their delagates to make it happen? Or am I way off base here?
