~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: Naval Air Warfare Center, China Lake, California

The Naval Air Warfare Center, Weapons Division (NAWCWD) is an organization within the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR), dedicated to maintaining a center of excellence in weapons development for the Department of the Navy (DoN). NAWCWD has two locations in Southern California; China Lake hosting the land test range and Point Mugu hosting the sea test range.

Nestled in the quiet Indian Wells Valley at the south eastern foot of the Sierra Nevada mountain range in California, China Lake is the premier land range and weapons development laboratory for the Department of the Navy.

While service to the Fleet underlies every program at NAWCWD, direct support is the most important activity at China Lake. NAWCWD Fleet Weapons Support Teams are with naval forces throughout the world providing hands-on assistance. Division senior scientists and engineers serve in 1- to 3-year assignments as on-site Science and Technology Advisors stateside, at sea, and abroad.

New operational flight programs and weapons capabilities are taken directly to Fleet squadrons by NAWCWD teams who train aircrews and maintenance personnel aboard ship.

In times of conflict, the Division's Land, Sea, and Electronic Combat Ranges are made available to the Fleet for training, and development of urgently needed new weapons and electronic combat equipment is fast tracked. Prototype systems (such as the NAWCWD-developed Rapid Targeting System) are taken directly into world hot spots by Division teams to provide additional capabilities for the DOD warfighters.

Good evening, Kathy!

*HUGS*

Great to see you this evening! Had a good PT session earlier this evening. Saw the cardiologist this afternoon - things look good on the cardio scene.

How are things going with you? Any weather news? We're in the upper 70's - touching 80 - very unusual for us in March - more of the same for the rest of the week.

Good evening, Mac...*HUGS*...glad you had a good PT session. And....your cardio got a good report. Friday my Dad got checked at the heart doc and told not to come back for a year. Balance seems to be the new issue. He fell outside and had to crawl to the door for help getting up. I have both my Mom and Dad pretty well trained that where they go, so do their phones. Rarely is one used, but I want them at hand.

It was -2 at my house this morning. Temps cannot make up their minds. Wednesday thru Tuesday is supposed to be above freezing. YUCK!!

I’m off for home! Back shortly.

BAND OF BROTHERS

WORLD WAR II

This day is call'd the feast of Crispian.
He that outlives this day, and comes safe home,
Will stand a tip-toe when this day is named,
And rouse him at the name of Crispian.
He that shall live this day, and see old age,
Will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours,
And say, "To-morrow is Saint Crispian."
Then will he strip his sleeve and show his scars,
And say, "These wounds I had on Crispin's day."

KOREA

Old men forget; yet all shall be forgot,
But he'll remember with advantages
What feats he did that day. Then shall our names,
Familiar in his mouth as household words,
Harry the King, Bedford, and Exeter,
Warwick and Talbot, Salisbury and Gloucester,
Be in their flowing cups freshly rememb'red.
This story shall the good man teach his son;
And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remembered-

VIETNAM

We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition:
And gentlemen in England now a-bed
Shall think themselves accursed they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day.

AFGHANISTAN

THE STRUGGLE AGAINST TYRANNY GOES ON –
THE BAND OF BROTHERS STANDS FAST IN THE BREACH!

Good evening, Luv!

*HUGS*

And may God bless you as well. Been working heavy hours lately and haven't been able to post as much. I'm behind on the Fallen again - will try to catch up over the weekend.

Thanks very much for your kind words - Band of Brothers is a work still in progress, but I thought it was far enough along to give it a "provisional" post. I'll be turning in momentarily - glad we were able to make contact tonight!

Ah, yes, China Lake. I did a couple of rotations at their neighbor to the south, the National Training Center at Ft. Irwin.

On one trip, I was privileged to be able to watch a Tomahawk demo. They fired the missile from China Lake, and we watched the video feed all the way to target impact on a dummy communications installation in the area of Catalina Island.

The video cam was about the size of a toilet paper roll and was mounted on one of the rear fins of the missile.
