BILOXI, Miss. - Rick Santorum said today that if a U.S. soldier shot and killed 16 civilians, as U.S. officials have suggested, then the Afghan people deserve an apology.
After an energy conference here, Santorum told reporters that the incident needs to be investigated further, calling it a "horrible situation."
"If it turns out to be the case that this person did a horrible wrong and it was a deliberate act, a deliberate act by an American soldier and that is something we should clearly say was something that we should apologize for," Santorum said. "That it's not a mistake, it wasn't something that was inadvertent. This was something that was deliberately done by an American soldier to innocent civilians. It's something that the proper authorities should apologize for, for not doing their job in making sure that something like this wouldn't happen, something like this should not happen in our military period."

lol. I shouldn’t have called you that and I apologize. I am trying to be positive on Newt supporters but you guys slam Rick day in and day out and sometimes it gets to me. Today I screwed up my Lenten promise not to lose my cool and I am very upset with myself. I will try again as of now.
My son is in Panjwaii, all of his leadership had done several tours in Iraq before this one to Afghanista....ALL have said Afghanistan is by far the worst place they have ever been....it in unfathomable. And I will tell you from experience, Panjwaii truly is HELL, it is the Birthplace of the Taliban. We don’t hear anything about it because there is not a reporter who will even venture in there. Michael Yon would not even stay there. As of this AM our time all was quiet.
I got it. I apologized to the FRiend already before your post.
Thanks for showing us how it should be done.
Apology accepted, and I apologize for giving it back instead of letting it roll off.
I see that. You still owe him an apology for the second post you so thoughtlessly railed at him, which in my opinion, was far worse than the first one.
Absolutely. They should NOT be over there. This Sgt. had apparently served three different stints in that hell hole, each lasting at least a year.
People crack up over here in post offices. He should be brought back, tried, and put in a mental institution as he obviously cracked.
Horrible thing, but no apology to Afghanistant from anybody ... they deserve no apology.
Agreed. But that doesn't convince me that we need to issue yet another pathetic and worthless apology, particularly when all of our apologies only seem to make muslims hate us more and respect us less.
I think they did.
Maybe “Ricky” wore the uniform around the same time as Newt, Mitt, and Obama.
They didn’t deserve an apology for the koran burning but they do have real reason to be upset about this. Personally I think everybody would be happiest if we were to get out of that hell hole altogether.
Amen.
Especially little wimps like Santorum who have never held a weapon of war in their hands in their life, or have ever served in combat! Yet they know all about it. At least that is what they will tell you, if you are as ignorant about it as they are.
We get permission, and then we burn a book. Word leaks, and 9 of our GI’s get killed as a result.
One of our guys loses it and goes out and shoots up a town.
I haven’t seen ANYTHING yet, ANYWHERE about WHY he did it, but I’ll bet the ranch that these two things are connected.
If the guy is sorry then he should apologize.
I dunno about being tried, an evaluation maybe to make sure he is okay and certainly all of the help he needs to gain his sanity back from the unspeakable hell he's been put through.
I have a real problem with asking our Military to do what they do, and then punish or second guess them when they break, or make the wrong split second decision.
They are only human and I would never dare to presume what it is like to walk in their shoes.

>> I have had enough of Politicians using our troops who are bleeding on the battlefield, as pawns to gain self centered political points. Especially little wimps like Santorum who have never held a weapon of war in their hands in their life, or have ever served in combat!
Roger that.
I’m also sick of amateur politicians who haven’t learned to just STFU and say “no comment” to gotcha questions instead of shooting from the lip with the answer they think the media wants to hear. What part of “aid and comfort to the enemy” don’t they get??!?
I think ABC owes an apology to Rick Santorum for that headline.
Thank you. Have a great day. Can’t wait for the forum in about an hour or so. So glad that both Newt and Rick are part of this. Glad Romney is too afraid to attend and the kook decided not to go. This could end up being the best one.
