The Justice Department is objecting to a new photo ID law in Texas for voters, saying the state has failed to demonstrate that the the law is not discriminatory by design against Hispanic voters.
The department's head of the civil rights division, Tom Perez, wrote a a six-page letter to Texas' director of elections saying that Texas has not "sustained its burden" under Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act to show that the new law will not have a discriminatory effect on minority voters. About 11 percent of Hispanic voters reportedly lack state-issued identification.
Perez wrote that while the state says the new photo ID requirement is to "ensure electoral integrity and deter ineligible voters from voting" the state "did not include evidence of significant in-person voter impersonation not already addressed by the state's existing laws."
Perez added that the number of people lacking any personal ID or driver's license issued by the state ranges from from 603,892 to 795,955, but of that span, 29-38 percent of them are Hispanic.
"According to the state's own data, a Hispanic registered voter is at least 46.5 percent, and potentially 120.0 percent, more likely than a non-Hispanic registered voter to lack this identification," Perez wrote.

Mike
I called the cable company yesterday because I have cable problems. I am in MY house, and I must produce government issue photo ID to prove who I am for them to do any repairs. Today, one must provide ID to do almost anything, except vote! I think we all get it actually. Voter fraud! Pretty simple.
“If I didnt know better, Id think Obummer HATES Texas.”
He doesn’t hate Texas; he hates conservatives, and Texas has many of them, including the governor.
Yep - Kansas did. Thanks to Kris Kobach, he’s been fighting the fight for a while.
The Headline uses the word "blocked" but the text actually says "objected" and all that has been done is...
The (Justice) department's head of the civil rights division, Tom Perez, wrote a a six-page letter to Texas' director of elections"
I don't see anything that actually blocks anything, unless the author of the article left out info about a judge issuing a ruling or injunction.
And, as usual, in these hit pieces we see nobody wanted to hang their name on this, it is just from "Foxnews."
More info is needed here.

The Obama Voter Fraud Act of 2012: Guaranteeing the precious rights of dead people, illegal immigrants, pets and other assorted democrats to vote.
The most corrupt administration since Warren G. Harding and far more ruthless.
Maybe Texas should raise the eligibility question and determine if the presumed president can have his appointees mess with state issues.
English ballots only would help.
Subject to U.S. Justice Department approval of a photo identification law passed by the Texas Legislature in 2011, the new photo identification requirements will become effective on January 1, 2012.
A: A voter will be required to show one of the following forms of photo identification at the polling location before the voter will be permitted to cast a vote.
With the exception of the U.S. citizenship certificate, the identification must be current or have expired no more than 60 days before being presented for voter qualification at the polling place.
Obama is black, Holder is black. Obama is a Democrat, Holder is a Democrat. Hispanics likely vote Democrat.
Illegal Hispanics likely vote Democrat in greater numbers. A likely provable disproportionality of Hispanics without state-issued ID are illegals, in fact.
Obama is a race pimp Democrat, Holder is a race pimp Democrat. Real Justice doesn’t mean sh!t to them.
“Not to mention shoing it to board an airplane and get my hotel room, and rent the car”
To get on an airplane you also need to be naked scanned or opt for the hand up your crotch. In FL we have to show our photo ID. It’s never been an issue. It’s only an issue with the pigs in this administration because they know they will have to cheat to win. Of course illegals get every other perk of the Federal Government without paying taxes, why not let them vote more perks for themselves.
I can’t believe that there is nothing we can do about this. Can we do a class action suit against the Federal Government, Obama, and Holder for disenfranchising American citizen’s by canceling out our votes with fraud? There has to be something American citizen’s can do to take back the government.
Why would a legitimate Hispanic voter lack a valid ID? How can this possibly be discriminatory?
The difference between them and the KKK? Who's in charge. That's it: who runs the show - who works the bias in their favor.
The KKK wants whites in charge. Holder wants minorities in charge. Both groups are wrong. Both groups are racist.
Texas could provide free id’s or have cameras at each polling place to take pictures of those without picture ID’s, show Birth certificates etc and have those people vote provisional ballots until verified. If nothing else they would have pictures of all un identified voters to compare with other polling places..
Take their thumbprint and picture that should scare away many fruadulent voters...
We shall see if don’t mess with Texas means what it says...
I had to show ID to buy cold medication.
Perry needs to get the Hispanic voters to back him up on this.
We have a lot of legal Hispanics who are just as concerned about
who comes here and votes illegally and it’s not just Hispanics
who vote illegally.
