Afghan president Hamid Karzai has demanded an explanation from the US after an American soldier shot dead at least 16 civilians, including nine children, in a killing spree Karzai slammed as an "assassination" that "cannot be forgiven".
The victims, killed when the shooter entered their homes in two villages in southern Kandahar during the night, included at least three women, elderly men, and a child aged just two.
On Sunday the mother of the two-year-old also spoke out. Gul Bashra told the Associated Press: "They (Americans) killed a child, who was two-years-old. Was this child a Taliban (member)?
"Believe me, I have not seen a two-year-old Taliban (member) yet. There is no Taliban here. They (America) are always threatening us with dogs and helicopters during night raids."
Another man said 11 of his relatives, including his children, had been killed at his house.

Or they’ll have a “Breaker Morant” Kangaroo Court Martial, and summary execution.
But, more importantly. The Dec. of War, would allow the President to use the full force of Gov't to win such war. ie creating oil supplies domestically, getting rid of environmental regulations, building refineries, securing the borders.
One cannot win a war, using the current methods of engagement.
“Karzai has demanded an explanation from the US.” Isn’t this exactly what Barky did after 2 of our military members were shot in the back at their Afghan work places??? Not!
You know I used to be gung ho back the military actions no matter, i wanted to support my government, but over the last couple of years, I have really changed my tune.
Unless it is an real threat, such as September 11, we have absolutely no business going into these countries.
It makes me sick, there is none of our find young men who have died (and women) whose death is worth the life of these donkees as Ishmael is described in Bible
I read a longer account that said that some of the bodies that were shown to the reporters appeared to have been burned, in some cases, or to have major burns on parts of them. They seem to have been whole, however, so it doesn’t sound like it was a grenade or anthing, but it doesn’t sound like it was a shooting either.
The details are very unclear, and I certainly wouldn’t consider it unthinkable that the Muslims themselves might have staged the attack, if any. And it is definitely not unthinkable that they’d blame the US for an attack by another group, such as their beloved Taliban (which is very fond of killing women and children).
Unlike here, where they start with the premise that they can install a government at odds with the local culture without firing a shot...
Completely agree. I still regret that Bush did not seek a formal declaration of war against Afghanistan (and any nation that supports them) after 9-11. A real war with an actual national goal of victory may well have ultimately led to formal war with Pakistan too, but the reality is Pakistan is an enemy nation and failure to deal with it will prevent us from any kind of successful conclusion in Afghanistan anyway. India probably would have joined us if it had come to that.
Bring the young man home and award him the Silver Star for his courageous preemptive strike which clearly prevented those sixteen people from murdering American servicemen and then being protected by Karzai.
Every bit of that means "nuclear war." You really want that?
It’s also “unforgiven” what happend to our Soldiers...
If this actually happened, I’d like to know the background of the perp. I imagine that might be very interesting and, if it turns out that because of his background he should have been watched or perhaps not issued a weapon at all, we may never be informed of that. Something is extremely questionable here.
Until I have a name of a US soldier who did this, I will assume indeed that it was a Taliban member disguised as a US Soldier.
You realize we are in Afghanistan because of September 11 right?
I mean, I get your point and generally agree - but Afghanistan was supposedly the "good war" because we are there because of 9/11.
Personally, I'd have been fine just flattening the place until all opposition from every quarter ceased. I would not have made all these efforts to separate the people from the government. Not saying we should attack/bomb friendlies in country, only that we should hold the people responsible for the government that was in power and fight to win till they properly surrender and accept whatever we impose on them. Any villages or towns that continued to resist would simply be destroyed and all the inhabitants killed if necessary.
Nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.
We will find

if Achmed’ll pray
to a glowing crater
No Blood for Opium!
Mecca/Medina is its own issue.
I’m talking the U.S. getting involved in a nuclear exchange between Pakistan and India all so we can deal with Afghanistan in a “declared war.” It makes no sense. We’d be better off just nuking Afghanistan from orbit.
Its also unforgiven what happened to our Soldiers...
Agreed
Is anyone else utterly sick to death of Karzai and the Afghans....?
Payback in kind is a bitch.
