Rick Santorum needs about 60 percent of the remaining delegates to claim the Republican nomination. It would be an easier task, he admits, if former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich would drop out, but Santorum would not call explicitly for him to do so.
The Speaker can stay as long as he wants, Santorum said on NBCs Meet the Press this morning. Instead, a Super PAC supporting Santorum has run ads calling for Gingrich to drop out of the race. (snip for excerpt purp.)
Were in a great position now as we go forward, he said.
Of course, there would be an easy way for Santorum to really make up ground: Id like everybody to get out, he said.

—agree—if this yo-yo Santorum doesn’t disappear from the race, we are likely to see a loss that will make the Goldwater wipeout look good-—
Politics may be a team sport (some of us call it “reaching across the aisle”), but this is an Election, and elections most definitely are NOT.
Speculation is fun, but no one is getting out of this race until they either run out of money or a candidate gets sufficient votes to become the nominee.
That’s bankable.
Nominating him, will rile up the entire Leftist World and it will be a landslide for Obama.
But Wittle Wicky Santorum is a sissified weasel putz, and Newt is not.
Drudge says that polls show that Santorum would beat Obama.
Yet he’s doing better than Newt. Both had their pluses and minuses. Frankly, whomever gets the nod, I don’t think any of the current contenders will be on a VP list. They will all be too damaged and this long drawn out campaign will destroy them all for the VP slot.
Look for a fresh and motivating VP candidate that will fire up the base.
Just the other day Santorum said that Newt would be at the top of his short list for VP choices. Called him the only other “true conservative” in the race. There was a story in Newsmax about it. Personally I think it would be a perfect match. A president who explains policy with a smile while Newt holds a whip over congress.
I agree that the media is trying to instigate fights so they can report on them. That said, if you ask any of the candidates I’m sure they all want everyone else to get out.
You love it when you think you are in control. But what you say seldom becomes a reality, which is a good thing.
There is strong evidence that Obama wants to run against Romney because Obama is going to be forced to back off the federal individual mandate and call for states to enact their own individual mandate. WA State is aleready making preparations for this and is even taking steps to take over the insurance for the teachers’ union and form a self funded state insurance program, which could act as a pilot program.
Eva, anybody can beat Obama. His baggage is huge!
“My spidey senses tell me there be a little left-wing wacko media spinning of the incident going on here.”
You’re probably right. The media loves to bait conservatives, who usually fall for the ploy. I just wish all of the Republican candidates would drop the senseless bickering and posturing and stay on message to defeat Obama. Simply refuse to allow the media to define the narrative.
I have maintained the only viable strategy is two-on-one. We need both Rick and Newt staying in to continue to force Romney to split his funds and forces against both Rick and Newt.
Neither Rick nor Newt can win right now if this becomes a one-on-one battle w/Romney. Romney must first be further weakened and his “inevitability” challenged and disproved; then his support will diminish and he becomes assailable. The rest can be sorted out on down the road.
Copy that. Also, probably someone from the South or Midwest to shore up the different cultures. Maybe even a stronger conservative than Mitt himself, just to make the sale.
Romney/Perry..?
LOL! You had better get you sneakers on and get out more often. That is not at all true, according to MOST of the national polls.

I'm going to have to ask you to prove that claim. Show is a survey or some strong agrument that supports it. Otherwise I will have to assume you are pulling this off the top of your emotional wish list.
I’m sure Newt is grateful to Ricky for letting him stay in the race. Especially since Newt has more delegates.
I know that will never happen but it must be obvious for all to see that what we call "the mainstream media", "the lamestream media" or whatever name they go by, they are nothing more than operatives of The DemocRAT Party.
It's not just sour grapes on our part or an ad hominem anymore.
I'd like to see our guys focus on getting their message out strictly on talk radio shows and certain Fox News shows.
But, again, I know it will never happen. Hey, a guy can dream can't he?
Hah! I was thinking exactly the same thing. On the surface, the two don’t get along at all, but think of what it would mean if Perry did become the VP pick.
Santo is owned by the Unions..
Hard to get elected in Penn.. unless that is so...
Same with Romney in Mass...
Newt is such a whore and a slut... the perfect candidate for new Sodom..
I’d vote for him... America is too Doped Up to care really..
I’d pay him a coupla BILLION to fix America..
LOL! That is a good example of why you support Santorum.
Pollyanna, meets Rebbecca from Sunny Brook Farm!
