Just as candidate Rick Santorum was obviously building up to a compelling "grand finale" today in a speech at the Pavilion of the Battleship USS Alabama in Mobile this morning, there was a commotion in front of him and to his left. A middle-aged black woman had fainted dead-out, flat onto the concrete floor (it was a bit muggy; raining outside). A lot of candidates would have looked out, stopped talking, asked people to go see if she were okay, and then perhaps continued speaking once it was clear that responsible people were seeing to her well-being. Not Santorum. He stopped his remarks dead in his tracks, just before reaching a planned crescendo:
"Oh -- well everybody, thank you and God Bless," he quickly mumbled, already leaving the podium. And then he leapt down the stairs and rushed to the lady's aid, just about the fifth person to reach her side.
(The lady was soon back on her feet and emergency medical people were making sure she was okay. Thank goodness, it seemed as if she were indeed okay. Santorum never re-took the podium, instead just wading into the crowd to meet people and shake hands.)
It was an unexpected end to an unexpected speech. Most presidential candidates give the same stump speech over and over, with only tiny changes or additions each time to make minor news or to work in some local pitch. Not Santorum. He speaks, completely without notes, at a sometimes overly detailed level of policy minutia, about different subjects from one speech to the next.

Compare this to obama this week when someone fainted at a lecture
first he cracked a joke about it
Then in his commanding black man voice he ordered someone to do something about it
“A middle-aged black woman had fainted dead-out, flat onto the concrete floor (it was a bit muggy; raining outside). “Oh — well everybody, thank you and God Bless,” he quickly mumbled, already leaving the podium. And then he leapt down the stairs and rushed to the lady’s aid, just about the fifth person to reach her side.

It’s the things politicians do when the cameras don’t notice that really matters. IMHO, this reflects well on Santorum, his flaws as a candidate notwithstanding.
Santorum was the 5th person to reach her side. In other words, Santorum did nothing to materially help the lady, but was another person crowding around. That’s what happens many car accidents, when too many people rush forward, to no effect - and sometimes to ill-effect - and surround the injured.
But it was a camera-ready moment.
And this is supposed to be a good thing? He admitted he's not a visionary. We don't need a president getting hung up on minutia like this guy does. He would be a disaster in office. Think Jimmy Carter who used to spend time working on the White House tennis court schedule.
Being so close to the stage I seriously doubt he even knew she went down. And after all the glitter bombings, Obama occupier incidents etc, he probably figured it was another leftist outburst going on.
But that doesn’t fit the smear meme here, eh?
I watched Santorum’s speech on Super Tuesday in Ohio.
What struck me was after his remarks, he didn’t glad hand Senator Dewine,
or other big wigs.
He immediately took his mother (93 yrs old) by the hand, and made sure
she got down the stage steps. There was someone who then took her.
She walks pretty well, but she doesn’t have anyone—she’s a widow, i think Rick’s father passed away.
I thought that was a class act.
That’s who he is.
More reason why Santorum is electable against Obama. He naturally connects with people especially with common folks as opposed to elites. Hopefully after Tuesday, he’d finally get his chance to go one on one with Romney and deliver the knock-out blow that has been denied him in this three-man race.
He’s a very nice man, yes. He goes to church, yes. He has a nice moral family, yes. So for those things he’s qualified to be leader of the world’s only superpower? No. I’m voting for a president, not the Pope.
His only purpose in this race is to throw off Gingrich so the mormon has a clear path to the nomination.
He is bankrolled by Romney supporter Foster Friess, who will pull the plug the day after Gingrich drops out.
.
That’s what you think but its Gingrich who is coming third or dead last in all the recent primaries bankrolled by a Vegas casino gambling with reported ties to criminal syndicates.
Being a hard Newtbot, I say you are FOS. I do not agree with Santorum on many issues, but there is never any worthwhile argument Santorum is not a sincerely caring person.
a cheap and unnecessary snarky shot
Ever lose? I imagine you have if you voted for those bastions of Social conservatism, Goldwater, GHWB, Dole, McCain.
I agree......and the stage being set Internationally is nothing Santorum can handle with his limited understanding of World Events and happenings. Can you imagine the learning curve he's going to need....and frankly there's no time for that.
Newt's on top of it all, knows the players both nationally and Internationally.....nobody other than Newt can see the whole picture and present it to the people in such a way they understand the perils we are in.
Here Rick does exactly the right thing and more..and you have to lambast him in keeping with the MO of the rest of you Santorum haters on this site.
Keep it up, BC. You all continue to make fools of yourselves....and become more and more insignificant every time you open your mouths.
And by the way, your guy isn’t going to win anything. That’s the best revenge of all against you vitriolic small minded people.
GO RICK! GOD BLESS THE SANTORUM FAMILY!!!
RIGHT ON, GUENEVERE!
I’m working as a volunteer for the Santorum campaign in my state....
“bankrolled by a Vegas casino gambling with reported ties to criminal syndicates.”
You don’t know what the hell you are talking about, that is plain ignorant. I live in Las Vegas, I wrote the only biography of Harry Reid and I know where the mafia ties are. It isn’t to Adelson, who is one of the richest people in the world and made his money off Consumer Electronics. Steve Wynn and Kirk Kerkorian are much more Mafia tied. Wynn has cleaned up his act, but Kerkorian is tied to Stanley Ho and daughter Pansy of Macao, the gambling/prostitution kingpin (I had to face Ho and his boyguards on a deal once, long story).
In short steelfish, you know diddly/squat on this subject and are talking out your butt.
