It all changed in 1964, and the visit of the Beatles to the Brill Building marked a changing of the guard. The new artists of the era preferred to write their own songs, and the British Invasion began a steady decline in the fortunes of the Brill Building composers. It wasn’t obvious at first, but tastes were changing. Songs about high school love were becoming passe. Sex and politics were rearing their heads.

Gerry Goffin and Carole King were still riding high, but not for much longer. They managed a breakthrough when a group from the second wave of the British Invasion scored with their song.

Herman’s Hermits: “I’m into Something Good”

I bought some new plastic for my improvised green house.

It was folded like a bazillion times.

It looks like someone was trying to make an insane giant snow flake.

Wow! That is really cool! I haven’t seen that in years. Keams Canyon sure hasn’t changed much. If there weren’t any new vehicles running around, you’d think you were back in the 50s or 60s. I enjoy bouncing around that area.

You will be fine with it.

My Little Sis and I just transformed the train from her wedding dress into a bridal veil for her daughter’s wedding.

Was a nerve wracking project.. No room for error at all.

I sowed a couple of hundred seeds in flats this week.

The first one is popping out all over.

I managed to cobble together a lighting system.

I need to get my “green house” shelf covered and get them in sunlight.

The most recent sowing will be needing the lights soon.

Gerry Goffin and Carole King wrote this hit for another Brill Building talent in 1964. That’s Dee Dee Warwick, Dionne’s sister, among the background singers.

Maxine Brown: “Oh No, Not My Baby”

Some other recordings:

Dusty Springfield in 1965 (This one is a keeper.)

Aretha Franklin in 1967

Rod Stewart in 1973

Carole King in 1980 (This one is another keeper.)

Cher in 1992

Linda Ronstadt in 1994
