So much for conservatives uniting ahead of Alabama and Mississippi.
Newt Gingrich's team just came out with what I believe is its first sharp hit against Rick Santorum of the campaign, a video montage of the former Pennsylvania senator talking earmarks, endorsing Mitt Romney in the 2008 presidential race and taking "one for the team," as he memorably put it in the final GOP debate in Arizona last month.
If the lines of attack seem familiar, it's because Team Romney - the campaign Gingrich has said he wants to thwart - has been using them against Santorum for weeks.
It's Gingrich's last stand at wooing conservative Southern voters to his side ahead of the Alabama and Mississippi primaries next week, contests that his aide RC Hammond said yesterday he needs to fare well in to justify moving on.
And while there have been some indications of a campaign in the last stages in Newtworld, it doesn't seem that the end will come before Tuesday. The only question is how much damage Santorum incurs in the process.

Bullcrap. Santorum campaign is running neg ads against Newt in the South right now. Rick Santorum has admitted that he’s trying to drive Newt out of the race.
What’s he supposed to do, just stand there and take it? He tried that in Iowa, and Mitt’s millions in lying attack ads drove Newt’s numbers way down.
I can’t believe some of the abject stupidity I see here sometimes.
Politics can make some emotional to the point of losing a grasp on reality (not implying you are such). I support Santorum but I would vote for Gingrich over Romney in a heartbeat, as I truly believe there's a bigger issue here, defeating Romney. That's the reality which cannot be ignored.
To the original post, I don't like seeing this kind of political attack at this stage, not between two individuals I could support. Knowing that at some point (if we are to defeat Romney) that one will have to support the other, something like this ad will make joining forces (for both the candidates and their supporters) far more difficult.
Its politics.
If your upset about Newt ads against Santorum, Just wait till obammy unleashes on him in the GE if he makes it that far.
Well lets see in the Debates Newt Vs Obammy.
Newt is leading 1-0.

Has ANYTHING Mittens or Santorum said in the primaries Caused Obammy to change his position.

Silly. Won’t work. Desperation time.
Here’s the deal. Gingrich hinted at Santorum getting out after three Contests in Florida, one of which Santorum had won. We’ve now had 21 Contests, Gingrich has won 2 and finished second in two others, he’s finished 4th in 12 Contests. Santorum has won 7 contests and only finished 4th once. It’s no longer early. It’s half time and Gingrich can’t play.
“Newt’s energy plan” is hilarious. Its not that I don’t agree with it, I do. I agreed with it when Michele Bachmann was proposing the same thing (although she did denounce her past support of ethanol subsidies) and Newt’s worshipers were calling it stupid and desperate.
Its no wonder America is such a mess. The people have virtually no ethics when it comes to getting their way
Technically it’s not a negative ad, it’s a Santorum ad for those interested in his positions.. all of them.
