Video: Does O’Brien know what “Critical Race Theory” is?

Via Dan Riehl and Ace, this almost too good to check. Go read Rebel Pundit’s post for an explanation, then skip to 2:00 below. (If you missed Ed’s post this morning, by all means watch the whole thing.) After sneering at Joel Pollak for supposedly mischaracterizing the discipline and then refusing to define it herself, she finally demonstrates her grasp of Critical Race Theory by uncorking a definition that’s curiously similar to … the opening of Wikipedia’s intro on CRT, replete with the noncolloquial use of “intersection” to describe an interdisciplinary study. Could be a coincidence — the definition she gives is generic — but the thought of her taking this much of a tone with him over his alleged ignorance while she’s got some intern reading Wiki entries to her in her earpiece is irresistible.

But is that what happened? Turns out O’Brien does know who Derrick Bell is. Go look at this page at Michelle’s new site Twitchy compiling some of her tweets about him. She marked his passing last October, retweeted Charles Ogletree’s tribute to him, and mentioned that she was “re-reading” one of his books, so obviously she’s familiar with his work. Could be they were even acquainted (she was a Harvard undergrad), although in that case, it might have been worth mentioning to the viewers as a prelude to the ritual savaging of Pollak as a racist, huh? Bottom line: Yeah, evidently she does know what Critical Race Theory is, and somehow, despite that fact, the formulation she came up with here is vague to the point of meaninglessness. Pollak’s definition is much closer to the mark : CRT is all about how American law is used to disempower blacks and preserve white privilege. To get a sense of the academic environment in which it

Watched this video just a little bit ago and came away with the thought that O’Brien is a condesending B*&$h that showed her TRUE colors. Joel Pollack did a fabulous job of keeping his composure AND educating the audience. I must say it was actually fun to watch. I also think that Amy Holmes is spectacular as well.

Brietbart is Here!

If nothing else, AB taught us not to be afraid to confront leftist/socialist. Confront them and don’t back down when the lie/spin/change-the-subject, which is exactly what Soledad did.

I loved that the one panelist tried to get all race baiter on him and ask why black people “scare” him....when Joel Pollak is married to and has a child with a black woman.

The video really is something. The emotion in O’Brien’s voice and body language was very strong. How dare anyone say anything about Obama that is not worshipful!

From Bell's obituary Oct 2011, WaPo

Pittsburgh native, scholar Derrick Bell Jr. dies, focused attention on bias in legal system

...Bell was credited with developing "critical race theory," which suggested that the U.S. legal system was inherently biased against African Americans and other minorities because it was built on an ingrained white point of view.

He argued in his many books and lectures that the life experiences of black people and other minorities should be considered in hiring decisions and in applying the law...

this sounds like Obama and Holder

O’Brien is one of those for whom the content of what is said is unimportant. Obama has never made a substantive speech in his whole life. Bell’s theory has all the substance of a Star Trek episode, which is why his film has a SI FI format. Let us suppose that a man can be shrunk to the size of an ant with his mind and bodily functions left intact. Let us imagine we can build a space ship capable of traveling across the galaxy, using a propulsion method of totally unknown principle, moving one supposes in response to the magical incantations of the Captain. etc.

The guy from Breitbart said that O’Brien’s comments about Critical Race Theory were word for word from the Wikipedia entry.

Well, duh, of course it is based on white prejudices. What else: White invented the thing. The simply solution is to marry into the culture. A black teacher I know called standard English “the power language.” The crazy efforts to keep black kids from learning it left them in a predicament. I once showed pygmalion —the one with Leslie Howard to a class—the white kids and about half the black kids got it. Some of them, however, were angered that Eliza had to try.

To summarize, "blacks should not be held accountable for anything and companies should be forced to hire regardless of qualifications and any crimes committed should be overlooked because the law is racists."

Did I summarize Bell's theory correctly?

Wasn’t she among the most ignorant and silly persons on TV you have seen? Silly, dumb as a box of bricks, shouting, obnoxtious, loud, overbearing and she thought she was so good no doubt. She couldn’t SHOUT Joel down.

I like that black teacher. He/she is very smart. I am from a “country speakin” part of Georgia. My grandmother made sure we spoke properly and all her grand kids had to go to college. We never knew any other options and all 4 of us have degrees. I have a masters in Health Physics from Georgia Tech. People don’t know where I am from when I talk.

It might be a little sad, but it provided a better life for me and my family.

I think she had a ear phone or teleprompter and was able to muddle through some obfuscation of “Critical Race Theory” after her handlers were forced to go look it up.

It was hilarious and disturbing at the same time.

Haven’t looked but, good grief! Anyway, Tom Sowell has written a book which pitches the idea that so-call African American culture is really just a modified form of southern American culture. Soul food, for the most part, is like the diet of the Native Americans in the region , with the addition of pork. The anti-intellectualism of the blacks, their lack of talent in discursive reasoning, why they do so poorly on standardized tests, is like that of the poor Southern whites. What was his book? Black Red Necks? Many blacks and many whites have moved away from that cultural paradign, but it has become a part of our whole national culture now.

Actually, our legal system is based on Greek and other ancient legal systems with a God inspired twist that when applied correctly, lets all people achieve beyond their abilities.

I have known so many hard working immigrants from all many nations [Cambodia, Vietnam, Liberia, Egypt, Iran, several European countries inside and outside the old iron curtain, and other places] that have made a good living and even become very wealthy. They have succeeded further than me... so far :-)

If we keep the corrupt, leftist style government from critically wounding our free enterprise system, we will continue to see countless success stories. We have to defeat the leftist. We have to defeat Barak”a” Hussein ObaMao.

From the list it sounds like the book "Black Rednecks and White Liberals" (2005).

I would put it differently. We know the Greeks only through the prism of the Jewish and Christian philosophers of the Middle Ages and Early modern period. That faint light was broken into many colors and some colors amplified and others not.
