Mitt only needs about 75 more delegates and he's half way to the nomination.

Okay, so he winds up at the convention with roughly 1050 delegates.  Santorum shows up with 700, Newt shows up with 550.  It is honestly your judgment that the delegates vote Gingrich over either other guy?  Why would these folks be loyal to Newt?  Their constitutents wouldn't have supported him.

Okay, then you're on the record of supporting Mr. Government Healthcare and friend of abortion over a man who is neither.  If that makes sense to you, so be it.  It doesn't to me.

I am also curious why you would try to slam a guy by refering to him as Father anything.  Don't your morals, our Founding Documents, our guaranteed rights owe their very adoption in their present format to the reality that men based their beliefs on a Judao Christian God?

We have expressed the desire to see our government draw more nearer to our Founding Ideals based on Judao Christian beliefs, here we have a guy who agrees, and you're all fired up to vote for a man who is closer to Ted Kennedy than our Founders.

A lot of people give this stuff very little thought.  They see Republican leaders supporting Mitt Romney, and that's all they need to know.  Off to the races to vote for Mitt.  That's why many of us are sick and tired of the Republican Party leadership.  They can't even find a reason to stand up to Obama as of this date.  Here you are expressing agreement with those sorts of people.

Why would you want to vote for Obama lite to represent us this fall.  Anyone even tempted to vote for that guy as an Independent or a Democrat, would merely vote for the real thing.  Why waste a vote on a pretender?

So, how does Newt’s dropping out help Rick?

Newt would drop out and pledge as many of his delegates as he could, to Rick Santorum.  Then Santorum could enter the future races with Newt's old support.

Rick Santorum could have won Ohio with the voters who voted for Perry and Huntsman.  They stood on principle and gave Romney the win.  How screwed up is that?

I know you mean well, but I think you've bought off on way too much of the anti-Santorum propaganda.

We could have develped much the same type of list about Newt, but we didn't want to operate that way.  Besides, it was the forum policy not to.

I think Rick would be a total failure as president and that’s the best case scenario. I too will vote for Mitt if Newt drops out. I concede that Rick is more conservative than Mitt, but that does not mean he would make a better president. And even Mitt would not nominate another Sotomayor or Kagan to the court, so the choice between Obama and anyone else is a foregone conclusion.

Since many in the Santorum camp would never support Newt, after the derogatory nature of their treatment by his supporters, Santorum dropping out will not help Newt either. What I suspect is about to happen, and I believe I am seeing begin in the polls, is for the support to wither away from two of the four. That appears to be the two polling the smallest numbers. It will take time to tell.

I suppose it comes down to this: during Santorum’s plummet in the polls, why did Gingrich only gain a single point? The camps are so divided that many would rather see Romney than the other.
