WASHINGTON (AP) Mitt Romney padded his delegate count on the biggest night of the GOP presidential primary season but Rick Santorum demonstrated enough strength to ensure that there's more convulsion ahead as Republicans struggle to settle on a candidate to take on President Barack Obama.
Super Tuesday gave Romney a narrow victory in pivotal Ohio, a home-state win in Massachusetts, and triumphs in Idaho, Vermont, Alaska, and Virginia. But it was no knock-out punch.
Santorum, for his part, won Oklahoma, Tennessee and North Dakota, and Newt Gingrich picked up his home state of Georgia.
"This was a big night tonight," Santorum said. "We have won in the West, the Midwest and the South, and we're ready to win across this country."

Wait, I have it on good authority that Super Tuesday was a boost for Newt!
/sarc
He was "surging" in TN.
I heard he was surging at AIPAC too, er, actually that was snoring.
I don’t blame him, he probably was tired from campaigning, but it is still kind of funny.
If Romney gets the nomination, it will be a cause for fury.
And I for one will stop listening to Rush, Hannity and every other “conservative” talk radio host I can think of, because they all joined in the effort to push Romney on us. This can be documented going back to the 2008 elections.
As it is, I listen to them less than half as much as I once did.
Actions have consequences.
Perry: This wasn’t a ‘super’ night for anyone
Megyn wants the race to be over so Mittens can be immaculated.
“If Romney gets the nomination, it will be a cause for fury.”
Romney WILL get the nomination unless this narrows to a two man race and fast.
Right now, Mittens has 364 delegates and Santorum, his nearest competitor has 164. the race could be evened in a week if Newt were to announce that he had released his 100 delegates to voter for Santorum and that he was endorsing and campaigning for Santorum. Santorum would win Majorities in Alabama and Mississippi on March 13, giving him all those delegates (90), which would even the race. Time is running short. To be consequential, Newt must strike hard and he must strike quickly.
The ball is in Newt’s court on this one. He knows Romney is a likely loser to Obama and that Mittens would be a very poor President in the unlikely event that he won.. He has a chance to do something for his country, not unlike what Edmund G. Ross did in saving the Presidency in 1868. It would be hard for him and for his supporters, but it is the right thing to do.
AP article is bogus and they know it. Article starts talking about delegate wins, says Santorum “won” TN, but Santorum had no delegate slate running in TN. Gingrich did have a partial delegate slate up for election in TN and will have more delegates in Tampa from TN than Santorum. So Santorum’s plurality in the presidential nominee preference poll part of the TN election was anything but a “win”.
This is as deceptive a the Drudge headlines thundering these pathetic Romney plurality wins as real “wins”. It is as wrong as the Romney Iowa caucuses “win”. It is as much BS as Romney’s Virginia “win” counting as a state that “supports” Romney.
The campaign usually goes to the best organized and best financed candidate. Mr. Romney, unfortunately has a lot of experience with making money, spending it and organizing people. Mr. Romney has been at this since 2007. Perhaps if Rick Santorum had been working at this for as long as Romney the numbers would reflect that.
What Rick Santorum has done so far is remarkable considering the nay saying he has had to put up with from the party. I’m starting to think that Mr. Romney might be the inevitable winner even in a contested convention fight. He will have earned it but that does not mean he is the best. I hope at least that the efforts of Paul and Santorum will , if Romney wins, at least influence what happens if the next president is a Republican. If Romney is the nominee and wins I sure hope he appoints Paul as Fed Chairman. What should he do with Santorum? I don’t know the answer, the best answer would be what would Santorum do with Romney. There is still a chance that Santorum could pull it out although it is now a very slim chance.
What happens if Newt drops out? Ah, it would do nothing but help Rick and really change the odds in his favor, it may be too late for Rick to win out right but if he goes to the convention with the most delegates I don’t see how he could lose.
I stayed up last night until the Cleveland and Cincinnati votes came in and dashed my hopes for Rick. If you look at a map of the state of Ohio, Romney only took a few counties, unfortunately they were the counties with large populations. Where there are large populations the get out the vote rewards can be significant. Where there are large populations TV and Radio advertising can be very effective. If you don’t have money for TV and Radio it is much harder to win but Rick Santorum nearly did it without the money, pretty impressive.

Neither Romney nor Santorum are natural born citizens.
The dems have turned loose their vote fraud machines to ensure Romney gets the GOP nod and even with help, Romney barely wins. Listen to FOX though and its a significant win.

Will we then implement “Third Party Contingencies”?
Neither Romney nor Santorum are natural born citizens.

What?
Every candidate up until these last two election cycles, with one exception who did not get caught until out of office, qualified for the office. Now we have Romney, Santorum, McCain, Obama and two VP possibles Jindal and Rubio all of whom fail to qualify because they are not Natural Born Citizens. Do you think this a coincidence?
Read the many threads here on the subject, mostly concerning Obama.
AMEN!!!
Rick assured us last night that he is not in it for his power but for the power of the people. He can prove it by doing the right thing. He showed last night, having blown a big lead in Ohio that he has a glass jaw. The ONLY way he will become president is to cut a deal with Newt to drop out and endorse Newt in exchange for the VP spot. Newt is the senior guy and the best to go against Obama. Rick as VP would have a real shot at the top spot in 4 years, 8 at the outside.
