Here's something you probably thought you'd never see.
Vulgarian Bill Maher Tuesday actually came out on Twitter in defense of - wait for it! - conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh:
Bill Maher @billmaher
Hate to defend #RushLimbaugh but he apologized, liberals looking bad not accepting. Also hate intimidation by sponsor pullout
So, why do you think he did this?
In the wake of the Limbaugh-Sandra Fluke controversy, Maher's coming under a lot of pressure from conservative groups for his vulgar attacks on women.
Despite his claim Friday that he's different from Limbaugh because he doesn't have any sponsors, he knows this is nonsense.
HBO makes money from subscriptions, and it's far easier for such patrons to directly make their negative opinions known to a company than in a traditional boycott. You call up your cable provider and drop the channel. Simple.
As such, one gets the feeling there may have been a lot of that lately in response to advertisers dropping Rush.
Just as Limbaugh likely started getting pressure from stations and his advisers before his apology Saturday, you can bet Maher has been told by people inside HBO and business managers that he needs to put his finger in this dike before it explodes all over him.
Maher's probably beginning to realize that if Limbaugh continues to lose sponsors and stations, he'll come under even more pressure which could force HBO to dump him.
Take it from someone that watches Maher almost every time he's on television - this man hates Rush Limbaugh. He'd only be defending him to prevent financial loss. Period!
And, if this tweet doesn't stop the bleeding, there might be something more closely resembling a real mea culpa in the days to come.
Stay tuned.
Even a horse’s ass can be right about something sometimes.
Originally, he was center-left.
Then he went hardcore left.
Now he's utterly intolerable.
LOL - love it! They eat their own.
He's afraid they're going to make him apologize.
of course, but watching the left turn on him at Twitter is awesome!
agree
The White House told Maher to make a statement, as a proxy. They want his $1 million and they know the heat is on relative to hypocrisy and double standards.
My guess at to why he’s defending Rush: he got chased off the air back when he made controversial remarks about 9/11 hijackers, and thinks he can identify with what Rush is going through. Maher’s hatred of conservatives is dwarfed only by his love for himself. Just barely...
Perhaps the worm is turning...
Rush has a history of turning a coordinated attack on him into a victory FOR him. The best example was the phony-soldier attack...by the time it was over, Dingy Harry was practically proclaiming himself to be a Rush fan.
I called DirecTv and cancelled ALL of our HBO channels.
The sponsors have just begun to pay for their bad judgement, or should I say lose from it. This is still a game that two should play, and the game requires that sponsors of leftist media shows get boycotted. Maybe Bill Maher has already felt some heat. Sounds like he is trying to head off trouble at the pass.
HBO doesn’t want Maher’s filthy comments being dicussed when they are getting ready to release their propaganda film smearing Palin.
Alright Maher will you say sorry about how you foul mouthed Sarah Palin?
Ha ha—I bet he does!
No sale.
Maher is running scared.
What he’s really saying is, “Those that live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.”
And the Left is living in one big glass house. By God’s grace, it will become a FISHBOWL soon.
His comments about Palin are going to come back to haunt him and his fellow travelers big time.
Only the conservatives and independents will care, but that might be enough to bring down the leftist house of cards.
He’s afraid they’ve awaken a sleeping giant, on the right.
That’s what he’s afraid of.
He’s afraid of being treated the same way. Or frankly far more enthusiastically condemned for being a slimeball.
Because unlike the left, ours is not feigned outrage.
We’re actually p!ssed.
Bill Maher’s an ass, but I agree with him here. He’s also been on the other side of this with ABC.
I think you’re on to something here. This happened right after Sarah tweeted about the hypocrisy of BO’s PAC accepting Maher’s dough.
“Vulgarian Bill Maher...”
Where is Vulgaria located???
