In the days leading to Super Tuesday contests, Rick Santorum stepped away from social issues and bombastic speeches while barnstorming Ohio to recast himself as the underdog whose blue-collar roots would stay true to American values.
Yet the former senator from Pennsylvania lost ground, slipping to a near dead heat with former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney in Ohio, the key state among 10 in which voters will cast ballots today, pollsters said.
"I thought his message has become so unclear on who he is or what he stands for that I am losing confidence on his ability to win the election in November," Dana Kasel, 43, of Perrysburg, Ohio, a Czechoslovakia native who became a U.S. citizen, said of Santorum. "It was his talk about how his grandfather realized the American dream that attracted me."
In a weekend poll of 753 likely GOP primary voters, Romney pulled ahead of Santorum, 34 percent to 31 percent -- a 10-point shift in one week, said Peter A. Brown, assistant director of Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. The survey's 3.6-percentage-point margin of error "makes the Ohio race too close to call, but Romney is the one with the wind at his back," Brown said. (Snip)

Santorum can and will drop off just as fast as he so undeservedly came on in the first place.
Let’ have faith and fortitude from here on. It's how we win!
Oh make no mistake. Newt’s not going anywhere. He’ll get a substantial number of delegates tonight and next Tuesday. If Santorum would have collapsed sooner instead of dragging out what everyone knew was inevitable weeks ago....
Just voted Newt in Akron Ohio!!! And Josh Mandel!
I wonder if my next trip to the polls will be as enjoyable?
We point out things about your candidate which are all true, you resort to personal attacks thinking you are defending your candidate. You can't win like that.
Talking to yourself is the first sign of insanity.
Your boy Romney may pull off a win yet. Keeping doing everything you can Troll.
[Oh make no mistake. Newts not going anywhere.]
Don’t be so sure. Remember how 2008 unfolded. McCain lost the first quarter and won it later. Never say never.
WOO HOO! GO NEWT! Every delegate counts.
I want Americans to dominate and colonize space, and for gasoline prices to come down, why don’t you?
Those two things seem to stick in your craw because you post against them over and over and over.
No personal attacks, just some humor. Actually, I liked your Gingrich pic. It’s you who have been spamming threads with anti-Santorum diatribes and being every ready to post anti-Santorum leftwing stuff and then you think we’d go quietly into the night.
Of course he does. Psycho is Romney’s biggest supporter here on FR.
I meant there is no chance Newt’s getting out. He’s taking it to Tampa!
Of course, there are a lot of things we all want. But $Ts in budget deficit, $15T in debt, and an unstable global energy market don’t make for rosy pie-in-the-sky scenarios.
Prove it! Better get started........going to take you a long time.......like years, and even then you won’t find one thing I have ever said in support of Romney..
Go now, get after it!..........
Right on!.......
Newt has been feverishly on message the last 2 weeks, especially the economy and it is paying off. Let’s hope it will stick and get him elected.
While the smart dude in the strong car, stays close behind, then runs to the front while the leaders are still banging into each other and spinning off the track. That's when the old veteran who hung back makes his move off of their draft, and wins......
Quit supporting Romney! Oops....you didn’t mention Romney :)
OOPs! you’re right! Playground bullies looking for a fight! Not gonna get it!...........
Newt!
