Rush Limbaugh has posted a statement on his website this afternoon, forwarded by his brother David (one of my friends on line), apologizing for calling Sandra Fluke an insulting name while discussing her claims. It’s impossible to retain the context of his apology by excerpting it, so I hope Rush will not mind me posting it in its entirety:
For over 20 years, I have illustrated the absurd with absurdity, three hours a day, five days a week. In this instance, I chose the wrong words in my analogy of the situation. I did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke.
I think it is absolutely absurd that during these very serious political times, we are discussing personal sexual recreational activities before members of Congress. I personally do not agree that American citizens should pay for these social activities. What happened to personal responsibility and accountability? Where do we draw the line? If this is accepted as the norm, what will follow? Will we be debating if taxpayers should pay for new sneakers for all students that are interested in running to keep fit?In my monologue, I posited that it is not our business whatsoever to know what is going on in anyone’s bedroom nor do I think it is a topic that should reach a Presidential level.
My choice of words was not the best, and in the attempt to be humorous, I created a national stir. I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices.
I think Rush did the right thing in apologizing to Fluke. However, let’s keep in mind that it was Fluke who made her sexual activity a matter of national political debate by insisting that the government pass laws and regulations forcing employers and insurers to provide her free contraception, and apparently as much as she and others demand. It’s Republicans who believe that contraception should remain a private affair, and that employers and insurers should be free to decide whether to cover contraception for their employees and customers or not. Democrats used Fluke to demand that those choices be stripped from private enterprises and instead be forced by the executive branch to entirely subsidize contraception.
That is the argument we should be making, as Republicans and conservatives. If you want your sexual choices to remain private, don’t use the government to force other people to subsidize them. Then we won’t have to turn the sex lives of Georgetown law school students into topics for political speculation.
Update: Along those same lines, does Donna Brazile also now oppose the government mandate to force employers and insurers to have a role in the decision to use contraception? She tweeted this message not too long ago (via Keder):
Agree! The government should have no role in contraception, and shouldn’t force employers or insurers to have a role in it, either. Keep it between the woman, her sexual partner, and her doctor. Well said.
Oh, wait, Brazile meant this in support of the mandate? She seems just as badly misinformed on the issue as her media colleagues … or as deliberately obtuse.
Many on FR have evolved into whining pantywaists. SMH...
Hello Big Shot, internet key board "tough guy".
My favorite is Somewhere in England 1915. Roads to Moscow is in my top 5 Al songs, surely. Can’t wait to hear Rush at 12:07 today!
One more time: Rush called her a slut ***IF*** she was telling the truth, and he made it painfully clear that she was a lying hack.
$3,000 for contraception over three years does seem a lot, but I don’t know what she based that figure on. She may well be a lying hack who inflated the cost - she is studying law after all.
Where Rush was out of line was calling her a slut. He tried to be funny and overstepped the line. Nothing in her prepared speech warranted that.
You don’t think it’s a little odd, for a grown adult to like saying slut a lot, and wanting to put it to music?
ROFL
What did Rush say about Tea if by Two in his opening statement today?
A role model for barry’s daughters.
I agree Their aint no reason to apologize, if this woman is haveing that much unweded sex to merit a 3000 dollar bill she is a slut in my book end of story.
Apparently this woman never heard of the concept abstance and as a result she actually has the audacity to insist that WE pay not only for her careless sex but for the killing that takes place so that she can avoid the Natural function of that sex.
Ms. Fluke is a truly discussing woman, much worse than a common slut. It is not her who deserves an abolish but sluts everywhere who deserve an apologize for scum like her being grouped among them.
Rush should NOT black down, nobody should back down. This woman is at the very least an irresponsible parasite that not only forces her unborn children to bare the consequence of HER choice but actually expects the rest of us to do so as well! Could she get more reprehensible?
It’s called satire. Just what Rush did.
Dang, Libs are so easy to expose.
Fluke it baby. Fluke it!
Yes, the fraudulent $3000 figure was the reason that Rush implied (with tongue in cheek) that she must be a “slut”, or a prostitute b/c she wants US to pay for her sex! Bob
The homo lobby got to him first. When was the last time you heard them criticized by Rush?
Ya never know here on FR.
Rush should've said: "I'll apologize to Fluke when Bill Maher apologizes for calling Ronald Reagan a f---ing a--hole and Sarah Palin a f---ing c---, and cracking crass sexual jokes about her underage daughters."
Carbonite’s stock dropped 12% the day after they dropped Rush. Better think again about who is getting hurt here.
So I have come friends who were just on Dancing With the Stars and they went to a new restaurant/venue called SoHo. They had a great time and I understand it’s a private club.
They are going to Red O this evening and since it’s Rick Bayless, who my chef friend adores, It has to be great.
Have you been to either place?
Sorry for the late reply, I was on a production thingy’. No, haven’t been to SoHo but I have been to Petit Ermitage which supposedly from the same guys who are involved in SoHo. I was at Red O many months ago and remembered they had a killer wine list. Pinot Noir Summerland, I believe was what I/we ordered. Heck, Melrose is just 5 minutes away from me :)
If you know of any good seafood cuisine in the Hollywood area, I’d like to know about it.
I am going to try your Petit tomorrow. I am going to LA in a couple of months. Hopefully we can meet.
