In case you haven’t seen this, the Air Force is flying F-16s on biofuel derived from the camelina plant. Yup, years after the air service certified most of its aviation fleet to fly on coal-derived synthetic fuel (stuff that was pioneered by the Nazis and apartheid-era South African governments because no one liked them and the world cut off their oil supplies) it is now certifying its jets to fly on something a little more environmentally friendly.
(The Navy has been working to get its ships and planes certified to run on biofuels for a while now, too.)
Its plan to certify its aviation fleet to run biofuel is very similar to its previous effort with coal-based fuels. The F-16s are being checked out to fly on a 50/50 blend of camelina oil and regular JP-8 jet fuel. The service has long said that it wants to use its status as the government’s biggest energy buyer t drive the market for alternative fuels that are produced in the United States. This would reduce the military’s reliance on foreign oil, service officials have argued.
Here’s what the service has to say about the effort.
In a joint effort by Airmen from the Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, and Airmen from the Ohio Air National Guard’s 180th Fighter Wing, the F-16 Fight Falcon is currently undergoing a field service evaluation of biofuel.
As the largest consumer of energy in the Defense Department and $8 billion spent on fuel in fiscal 2011, Air Force officials are working toward making the fleet a little “greener” by researching, testing and ultimately implementing the use of alternative fuels.

You may be right. I don't know the specifics of who made these decisions and why, but I doubt that the national interest was the only goal for everyone involved.

Once again I will reference the GWB-Pelosi 2007 Energy bill Obamanation that mandated expensive, wasteful, poluting , inefficient ethanol and banning safe light bulbs. Even greenies refuse to take responsibility for ethanol now.
Claiming GWB was involved is about as inspiring as saying Obama was involved.

A hippie engineer discovers a kind of perpetual motion machine, But in this story, he cuts his hair and trades his sandals for brown business shoes, and with his profits he hires a whole building of lawyers, so that he is ready for the inevitable attack by the oil companies.
So then, with the aid of his devices, humanity enters a golden age, irrigating the deserts and eliminating hunger. Everybody lives happily ever after, except his hippie ex-girfriend, who is disgusted that he “sold out” (perhaps a metaphor for anti-capitalists).

It's fun to reflect on how you and I AFTER seeing history unfold over the decades see the world different than younger less experienced ignorant voters, any of which Obama is counting on to save him again , the rest going to Ron Paul.
I was in college when the China Syndrome got to my cable TV taking college physics around the time of Three Mile Island . Later in college I had to take thermodynamics. (a reason why I don't fall for these endless snake oil con jobs as the suckers do.)
If you think back to Three Mile Island and The China Syndrome era the libs made energy independence out to be the destruction of the United States. Remember how the reactor cores would eventually reach China ?? (Heck that would eliminate the need for disposing of the waste products LOL.)
Where were the ‘energy independent’ liberals when that battle came up?? They were Banning Nuke power as they try to ban domestic oil production right NOW.

The last time I also checked that President Bush was pro drilling in ANWAR and in the Gulf but was stopped by the Democrats or that has conveniently slipped your mind
1) Give up bi-fuels and electric cars, and stop wasting our money on snake oil
2) Drill more and produce more coal and natural gas domestically
3) OK the oil pipeline
4) stabilize the dollar
5) Let prices naturally rise or fall, let consumers decide to conserve to save money if prices go up on their own.
