'The Formula' movie was on cable a few weeks ago and I watched part of it. Those evil oil companies will kill anyone who is a threat to their $$$ profits by pushing ‘cheaper’ alternatives, I saw it in the movie.

Then again I saw the China Syndrome which claims that we are better off buying oil from our enemies than using nuclear power here. Those libs just cant get their conspiracies straight.

I see your picture now.

A similar story is “Brownshoes” by Theodore Sturgeon (not a movie, just a science fiction short story, 1969). A hippie engineer discovers a kind of perpetual motion machine, But in this story, he cuts his hair and trades his sandals for brown business shoes, and with his profits he hires a whole building of lawyers, so that he is ready for the inevitable attack by the oil companies.

So then, with the aid of his devices, humanity enters a golden age, irrigating the deserts and eliminating hunger. Everybody lives happily ever after, except his hippie ex-girfriend, who is disgusted that he “sold out” (perhaps a metaphor for anti-capitalists).
