Sebelius: Reduction in Pregnancies Compensates Contraception Mandate Costs By Fred Lucas March 1, 2012
(CNSNews.com) Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius told a House panel Thursday that the reduced number of pregnancies will offset the increased cost on employers and insurers providing free contraception to employees under the new Obama administration mandate.
The reduction in the number of pregnancies compensates for the cost of contraception, Sebelius said. She went on to say the estimated cost is down not up.
Sebelius took questions from the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health about President Barack Obamas fiscal year 2013 budget proposal.
The HHS rule, part of Obamacare, violates the freedom of conscience for Catholics and other religious groups that expressed their objections to the mandate. Already there is litigation asserting that the rule violates the First Amendments guarantee to free exercise of religion.
President Barack Obama announced a change to the original rule that would have technically allowed religious institutions such as Catholic hospitals or schools to get an exemption from paying for these drugs, but instead require insurance to provide it for free. That so-called compromise would still require religious institutions to pay for insurance that provides the free services.
Sebelius insisted the mandate, upholds religious liberty while still ensures women have contraception.

The bishop in DC has to tell that woman she can not recieve. This is a disgrace.
if that were true the insurance companies would have made them free years ago
WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE? WHERE DO THEY REALLY COME FROM?
So it is government policy to minimize the number of pregnancies in the US population? When did our government turn against us?
Amen.
Rush played the sound byte. My Congressman. Tim Murphy, got Kathy all mumbly on his questioning of the end financial result of “free” birth control.
Eugenics anyone?
I always pay close attention whenever Tiller The Killer’s very best friend speaks about morality.
(end contemptuous sarcasm)
In a free country children are considered a blessing.
In socialist countries they are a burden.
What a stupid premise! The increase of the use of birth-control alone will result in a higher percentage of unplanned pregnancies. If you miss a day, you’ve just set back your ability to protect against pregnancy. Condoms are a poor source of protection, and even the pill is not 100%. This is outrageous positing on this!
The assumption that there is anyone out there who would use contraception but can’t afford to is totally false, so the contention that “free” contraception (sterilization, abortion) would result in fewer pregnancies/births is also totally false.
We’re turning into China with this bunch of morons! Two children per family and no females.
Alternatively she's an alien from outerspace ~ but that's not likely.
Here's something that would save a lot more money ~ that she go walk off the roof of the HHS building ~ just like that she is no longer our problem ~ just that of her god ~
Pyramid Schemes only work when the base is large enough to support the rest. Sometimes I imagine there are competent people in D.C. Then I remember all the people I knew from school who entered the public sector.
Gee, this argument works if we just kill every patient. Think of all the money the government could save for healthy folks.
If I may offer a small edit:
So he can buy pills and condoms for Georgetown Law School Students, which is now synonymous with the afore-mentioned "b's" and "h's".
Death panels?
Think of how much more money could be saved with vigorous death panel’s applied to nursing homes.
About a week ago I pasted a report from the time that the DC bishop, through his office, said he intended to follow her home bishop's request to him that she not receive.
I think that where it stands now is she no longer practices her faith, outside of or inside the Church. So it is a moot point.
