Mitt Romney spoke to several empty seats Friday in Detroit, in a speech that offered Democrats more fodder for their attacks and failed to deliver the major economic address his campaign promised.
Television cameras showed rows of empty chairs as Romney rehashed many of the policies and quips hed used in previous speeches, made a few jokes that appeared to fall flat with the audience and said that his wife, Ann, drives a couple of Cadillacs, which will likely give Democrats more ammunition for their depiction of him as rich and out of touch.
The former Massachusetts governor also repeated a line that has been the butt of jokes by late-night comedians that Michigan has good-sized trees.
This feels good, being back in Michigan, he said. The trees are the right height. The streets are just right.
Romney then listed the various cars he and his wife own.
I drive a Mustang and Chevy pickup truck, he said. Ann drives a couple of Cadillacs, actually. I used to have a Dodge truck, so I used to have all three [Detroit manufacturers] covered.

He is a doofus, but the Dems misread this one, Cadillac no longer says rich, it says old white man, unless it’s an Escalade with lots of bling.
lol...trolls. Amusing.
Ask a welfare, foodstamp recipient what he drives, just as good as she has no dought. I heard a story this week about friends of a co worker of mine. They are immigrants who just came back from a cruise with the whole family, they are on public assistance, foodstamps, disability and social security.
yes, I see you understand not giving fodder to the obama campaign.
I like to fire people.
Not enough people to carry them? :)
Where’s the dog? In the trunk?
The DTS & CTS go from 40-60 grand.
And more depending on add-ons.
I think we’re already losers: Obama in office and Romney being foisted on us....
I suspect that remark won’t really resonate (in a negative way) as much as it might have, a few decades ago. The days when a Cadillac was seen as a luxury marque are long gone. My impression is that a Cadillac is little more than a bumped up Buick. In truth, if he had said Mercedes, BMW, Bentley or Rolls, then the negative reaction would have been significant. A Cadillac? That’s a land yacht only diehard domestic buyers would even look at.
Huge symbol for boomers and seniors who are a huge voting segment.
Put it together with “I like to fire people” and “I don’t care about poor people” and “Medicare Fraud”
and you have a winner for Obama.
Boomers will see him as someone who's patriotic and down-to-earth enough to buy American, despite having more than enough dough ($300m) to buy custom foreign made wheels like Rolls Royce or Bentley. A lot of boomers buy foreign luxury cars, because they can't be bothered with the maintenance nightmares presented by domestic makes, and because labels like Cadillac confer negative prestige unless they live in the hood. In 2011, BMW alone outsold Cadillac 250K to 150K, and most buyers of luxury makes are oldsters.
My point is that the media is stuck in the past. These days, a Cadillac isn’t the symbol of ostentation it used to be. Camelot is dead and buried, along with the Cadillac brand name.
Well that answers the question: “How many Cadillacs can one person drive?”
And most seniors and a lot of boomers grew up with Cadillac as a status symbol
APPARENTLY, Romney was one of them.
Neither Romney or Obama have any compassion for the common man. Both men have no idea of the pain an stress millions of Americans are going through. Romney brags about his cars, the Obama’s spoend millions on trips, dining travel, clothes and jewelry. All this being done while millions of Americans are out of work, American Black folk remain tethered in chains to the bottom of the economic totem pole and millions of all types of American suffer from their homes being priced underwater, or.....facing foreclosure!!! Both Romney and Obama need to be broomed out of politics and thrown into the political cesspool of obscurity for eternity. VOTE FOR EITHER SANTORUM OR GINGRICH IN MICHIGAN & ARIZONA, COME NEXT TUESDAY!!!
