Poll: Newt Gingrich, Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum Nearly Even In Georgia February 21, 2012
By Larry Peterson A new poll pegs Newt Gingrich, Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum as nearly even in Georgia as its March 6 Republican primary approaches.
Gingrichs double-digit lead has dried up in less than three weeks, and experts say his White House hopes likely are over if he cant carry his home state.
In a Monday InsiderAdvantage Georgia poll of 711 likely primary voters, Gingrich, a former long-time Georgia congressman and House speaker, had 26 percent.
Former Massachusetts governor Romney had 24 percent and former Pennsylvania senator Santorum 23 percent. Texas Rep. Ron Paul trailed with 12 percent.
The margin of error for the poll was 3.6 percent, so Gingrich, Romney and Santorum were about even.
The results signalled a dip of 9 percentage points for Gingrich and a gain of 8 for Romney compared to a Feb. 9 Landmark-Rosetta Stone survey. Santorum slipped 3 points; Paul rose by 7.
Before the new survey, Georgia was the only state in which Gingrich led among 11 where voters will cast ballots on March 6.
If these numbers are correct, said Kennesaw State University political scientist Kerwin Swint, they signal the collapse of Newt as a viable candidate. Georgians may be starting to dismiss him as a serious contender.
University of Georgia political science professor Charles Bullock said the poll suggests a substantial collapse in Gingrichs support.
A whole lot of air is going out of his balloon, Bullock said. ... Its going to be hard to spin this in any possible way.

Newt is done like dinner. He needs to drop out, endorse Santorum and get himself a good position in the coming Santorum presidency.
If Santorum pulls of a MI upset, he’ll generate tsunami-size momentum that it will wash Gingrich ashore in GA. He needs to quit now, assist a Santorum win in AZ, and win the accolades of the conservative movement. Gingrich will make a good Education Secretary that will help disable and dismantle our corrupt public school system.
I don’t believe this. It is just another trick of Satan.
Sorry, some of us have little desire at this time to usher in a third GWB term when we can still have at least four years that loos like the best of Reagan.
If I’m Newt I wait and let Saint Rick keep running his mouth until people realize he has no chance to beat OBama in November. The Dems are probably salivating over the opportunity to run against Santorum. They do not even have to write the ads they write themselves.
People are not looking to elect a moral arbiter in chief. We all know that Rick is just better and holier than the rest of us, but since most of us are sinner we don’t really want to be reminded of it by a sanctimonious, big spending, union loving twit.
He’s right he is not a manager or a visionary he is just the typical Washington insider and petty political pol. God save the Republic if he wins the nomination because we can not afford 4 more years of O’Bama.
Heaven help us if that sissy frat boy gets the nomination.
After next Tuesday, the train wold have left the station.
Or maybe not.
Rest assured, he won’t self-implode on a moon base.
Satan’s the sissy frat boy from Harvard.
Let’s put a hold on your wishful thinking until the race is over. SO many people SO eager for Newt to fall by the wayside. That leaves the door wide open for Romney and Obama.
Just as long as you are honest about wbat you are getting. I don’t happen to thank most of the Santlorum supporers are.
What was it that Newt said recently ? that if anyone loses their home base that they should drop out ? or something like that.
A whole lot of air is going out of his balloon, Bullock said. .. Its going to be hard to spin this in any possible way. ....... of yes they will, a Brokered Convention... If Newt can’t have the GOP nomination, nobody can...
There will be no Santorum presidency.
Obama would eat him for breakfast, and do it with the loony content of Saint Ricky’s own recorded sermons.
President Newt Gingrich—”Our beloved republic deserves nothing less.”
From what I gather, many Santorum supporters think they are getting the end of abortion.
In what bloody world is Gingrich a political outsider? He was speaker of the house ffs. I don’t care if he’s an insider or outsider, if he can’t win, he can’t win. Santorum is far more viable a candidate and he hasn’t cheated on his wife a dozen times. Stop fantasizing about Gingrich schooling Obama in a debate because that doesn’t make a presidency.
