What the Mormons Know About Welfare
The Wall Street Journal ^ | February 18, 2012 | NAOMI SCHAEFER RILEY

Posted on 02/19/2012 7:03:57 AM PST by JustTheTruth

... Mitt Romney said he was "not concerned about the very poor" but would fix America's social safety net ...

But if he wants to see a welfare system that lets almost no one fall through the cracks while at the same time ensuring that its beneficiaries don't become lifelong dependents, he could look to his own church.

(snip)

Launched during the Great Depression, the Mormon welfare system was designed by church leaders as a way to match the ... unemployed faithful with ... temporary labor. As storehouse manager ... explains, goods and services were traded so that if a father needed food for his family he could get some in exchange for, say, repairing the fence of a widow down the road.

(snip)

... "Our primary purpose was to set up insofar as it might be possible, a system under which the curse of idleness would be done away with, the evils of a dole abolished and independence, industry, thrift and self respect be once more established among our people. The aim of the Church is help the people to help themselves. Work is to be re-enthroned as the ruling principle of the lives of our Church membership."

(snip)

. . . the primary source of capital support is the Mormons' monthly fast, as church members are asked to contribute what they would have spent on two meals. Many give much more, says Mr. Foster.

It is safe to assume that Mr. Romney's (...) donations are supporting the kind of safety net that government can never hope to create. Jesus may have said the poor will always be with you, but he didn't say Medicaid would.

ejonesie,

What the n00b mormon doesn’t understand is that in Reagan’s day, there was no Internet to reveal the
perverted pagan secrets of mormonism.

Reagan, a politician, needed votes. Like all politicians, he spoke and said nice things wherever he went
about potential friends. He hired mormons in his administration.

He never became a mormon.
He never left the True Biblical Christ for the fake mormon, created Christ.

The n00b should consider just why that is so...

I’m not convinced it isn’t a retread, but time will tell.

However, would like to add, that I am really starting to be convinced that there is some web site or two where mormons can go to to cut and paste. If you read articles about Romney and that France accident he had, mormons will post exactly what was posted here. I even compared them and they show up on dozens of sites reporting on the event. Oh, and that lost girl story, exactly the same.

SLC lds really does think everyone but them is as stupid as pudding. So all the pictures of Reagan with mormons, the issues with Romney, the bogus archeology evidence - it's all the same - no variation of thought.

Very creepy.

So, you've brought your W2 to tithing settlement? In December?

Straw Man argument. "Personal observation" as in seeing a widow get help from the Church, who now controls almost every waking minute of her life with "callings" for one damn thing after another. Same with the others - the Church doesn't seem to want them to have any free time at all. Then there is a guy who had to take out a $35,000 second mortgage to fund his kids going on overseas missions.

There are some good family values they have but still too much of a cult that milks their believers dry in money and time under the guise of a "calling".

Not a straw man argument. You specifically said "I live right smack in the middle of 'em and every word, from PERSONAL OBSERVATION, is spot on." That appears to be a claim that "every word" in the statement made in that post was accurate. And I challenged you on that by asking if you had personal observation on one of the specific claims. That is not straw man.

If you get an answer; does that mean that YOU would be replying to questions?

Just simple ones, too.

Elsie,

You know I respond to lots of stuff here. Even some difficult ones.

But my time is limited, and I tend not to engage in the shouting matches.

mormon 'archaeologists' used to give talks at the wards how they found the real proof of ancient cities and pass around 'nephite coins' then tell how antimormon scholars rejected their evidence and/or the govt stepped in and made their dig sites off limits

there was even an old guy who said Jesus visited the ancient egyptians became the god horus and taught them mormonism then the white egyptians were destroyed by nubians who threw down the mormon temples and replaced them with their animal headed gods

none of these 'scientists' seem to have the courage to write anything for peer review or even start a website but there's a few score of them blathering on youtube

the morgs lap it up

One of my lds uncles has a PhD in geology, and has told me there is no evidence to support the BofM, that’s why they call it faith.

Oh, you are so correct. It is ironic that lds who claim to defending the faith all use the same cadence, words and accusations, where as people who are exposing mormonism use the words of lds leaders and text to show what they say about mormonism is correct and not a distortion of their own words.
So say honey when are you going to defend lds, or are you just going to do the cutesie thingie?

So does he just IGNORE the 'evidence' that PROVES it's false?
