Loxas was standing outside of his home with his grandchild still in his arms when Officer James Peters fired one shot to the head, killing the suspect.

Officer Peters, who fired the fatal shot, has been involved in seven shootings over the past decade. Six of those have been fatal, and all have been ruled justified.

One trigger happy cop!

This was the particular officer's sixth fatal shooting

"Marshall Cogburn, how many men have you shot?"
"Shot? Or killed?"
"Let us restrict ourselves to 'killed' so that we may have a manageable figure ..."

All a cop has to do is say, “I thought I saw a gun.” and he’s home free.

Geez.

Surely this cop will get sentenced to the electric chair for this horrendous crime...............

I don’t care who you are, you can’t just shoot an unarmed man holding an infant—at least that used to be against the law-—these days, who knows?

I would never call the police for any help these days. It’s too hazardous.

The cop used to be on the SWAT team.

The man holding the baby was reaching for a gun.

What would you do?

According to local reports, 50-year old John Loxas had his 9-month old grandchild in his arms as he walked around his neighborhood, apparently making threats toward 'neighbors and police'.

However the man was outside of his own home with the child, when he was shot through the head by a Scottsdale officer named James Peters. Mr. Loax was killed immediately, and it is reported that Peters was not confronting the man, instead he used a scope and fired from a distance.

Neighbors are questioning this police officer's actions.

No, not a trigger happy cop ... Sounds like a cold-blooded serial murderer who hides behind a badge.

Anybody else find this article to be amateurishly written? Odd phrasing and editorializing.

Scottsdale Police told reporters that the nine-month old baby was not injured in the shooting

Of course. When his granddad was shot in the head he looked around, walked up to a stroller, and put the child into it. Only then he collapsed and died. That's what the police says; must be the truth then.

I will reserve judgment until more details are available.

The article indicated he was a member of the SWAT team on one of the shootings, and doesn’t say he no longer is.

Also, the article says that “at least one of the 3 officers” thought the man had a gun, but does not specifically say it was Peters.

Given those facts, it is possible that it was another cop who thought he saw a gun and Peters was ordered to shoot.

I am disappointed on the posts I am seeing. I have read several other much more compete and less biased reports on this particular incident.

What was not mentioned here is that the guy who was shot was blind stinking drunk and had a revolver that he pointed at his neighbors and threatened to shoot them. They were cleaning up the garbage can that the drunk kicked into the street earlier and told them they were unhappy about that. That is why the police were called. In addition, there was a history of violence with the guy who was shot. There was also a loaded handgun and loaded shotgun just inside the door that he was going back in through.

I would rather have him dead than holding a baby and the loaded handgun (and shotgun) that they found just inside the door and later using the kid as a hostage.

And, NO, I am not a “police can do no wrong” kind of person. In this case I am not joining the call for this officers head. But go ahead and join the chorus based on a very biased news story if you want to.

Wow, the lefties read these edited stories and come running out from under their rocks to scream about the bad cop. Meanwhile, back in the real world...

According to the 911 call, the neighbors said Loxas was pushing his 9-month-old grandsonin a stroller and walked over and kicked a neighbor’s trash can into the street. When another neighbor went to pick it up, Loxas returned with the baby in his arms and started yelling, “You got a problem with that?” the caller tells the dispatcher. “The guy pulls out a gun, cocks it and aimed it at him.”

A search warrant recovered a loaded pistol “a few feet from where the suspect fell inside the residence,” Clark said. “It was wedged between the arm and cushion of a chair a few feet away from where he fell.” It is the same pistol believed to have been used to threaten neighbors, he said. A loaded shotgun also was found near a chair a few feet from the pistol, Clark said. In addition, police found at least eight “Airsoft” type rifles and pistols, as well as “a functional improvised explosive device,” he said.

Nice shooting, officer. Thank you for putting this dangerous scumbag down like the rabid dog that he was. I’m sure the neighbors are relieved to have this deadly threat removed from their neighborhood at last.

Sounds as though the child was being held hostage or used as a human shield, or that was the LEOs’ perception of the situation. The child is safe, so I’ll withhold opinion until I get more info.

Time for the fsmily to seek out a mean-spirited, vicious Attack Lawyer.

And it’s looooong PAST time that this dumb cop was returned to private life and jailed.

1. It's easy to mistake one for the other.

2. It's possible that this cop got a radio report that the man was reaching for a gun and shot in response to that report.

3. It's possible that he had to shoot the man because there wasn't a dog around to shoot.

4. It's also possible that for any of a number of reasons, we don't have the whole story here.

We all know the right answer for any given set of facts. What we aren't sure of are the full facts.
