A Knoxville man left to watch over his girlfriend's 11-year-old son while she was at work beat the boy to death over a span of nine hours on Saturday, according to Pittsburgh police.
The 29-year-old boyfriend, Anthony Bush, told police that he began beating the boy, Donovan McKee, with wooden sticks shortly after noon when Donovan failed to vacuum their apartment at 107 Knox Ave. in Beltzhoover as Mr. Bush had instructed, according to a police criminal complaint. The beatings, Mr. Bush told police, lasted until about 9 p.m.
"During the beatings, at times, the sticks would break and Bush would order Donovan to clean up the pieces of the broken sticks," the complaint states, "Bush stated he would take breaks, get new sticks, and continue beating the child throughout the day."
The Allegheny County medical examiner's office has ruled Donovan's death a homicide caused by blunt force trauma to the head, trunk and extremities.
Mr. Bush, who has been charged with endangering the welfare of children and criminal homicide, told police he used at least three sticks, and that he struck Donovan with at least "one clean" head shot during the incident, according to the complaint. Donovan's 5-year-old brother was home at the time and witnessed some of the attacks, but was not harmed, according to the police.
Mr. Bush told police he had been having problems with Donovan lately and knew that he was going to have to discipline him for his behavior. He also told police he had to wait until after the boy's mother, Cynthia McKee, left for work because she often stopped him when he disciplined the children.
Mr. Bush lived at the apartment with Ms. McKee and her sons.

The mother knew that her boyfriend was an abusive thug who had repeatedly physically abused her child in the past, but she let him babysit her child anyway, and now the child is dead. I’d say that morally, the mother is just as guilty as the person who actually killed the child.

Agreed. In these types of cases the mother - if you can call her that - belongs in jail also.
That poor child. Prayers for him and his younger brother that had to witness this horrible event.

The saddest thing is that his female parental unit arrived home at 10pm and her son was still breathing. She didn’t call 911 until 11:45 pm at which time the boy was dead.
This child may have been able to be saved had she reacted like a relatively concerned parent.
not that women can't be horrid as well...I just think the stakes are too high to have non biologically attached males around children...
we had a young man of 22 living with and "babysitting" two young boys....well....he killed the mother and the two boys, then shot himself.....but why have this person around?...he had a criminal background and all....

I noted that too. And he wanted the mother to say the boy had fallen. She phoned a bunch of other people before calling 911. As he laid there naked, dying. Disgusting.
Good catch. I missed that during the first read. That is absolutely horrible. She was thinking about herself and her boyfriend and didn’t do what was best for her son. Oh my goodness! That poor boy! I wish he could have escaped sometime during those nine hours and gone to authorities. Maybe he was worried about his little brother or thinking he would be in bigger trouble if he ratted them out. Send her horrible butt to prison too. She is no kind of mother. I hope the murderer gets death, but he’ll probably just get prison time. Either way, they never get what they deserve—not on this earth.

This is way too common about mommy's new boyfriend. Granted I know several great guys out there that aren't like this, it's more common than it should be.
By this idiotic statement you lump all men in with evil men like the one in the article. There are good decent men that would never harm a child. My husband is one of them.
