CPAC 2012: Newt Gingrich hits the reset button.
Human Events ^ | February 11, 2012 | John Hayward

Posted on 02/11/2012 10:49:12 PM PST by true believer forever

No one can say they don’t know what Newt Gingrich will do after his inauguration. He’s got big plans…

He pledged to have a full list of his proposed executive orders and presidential findings published online by October, so that every voter will know exactly what they’re getting. He wants every Republican candidate to campaign with him on a pledge to hit the next Congress in a monster jam session that repeals the job-killing centralized corruption of ObamaCare, Dodd-Frank, and Sarbanes-Oxley by the time he’s sworn in…

… and that’s just an appetizer.

Within two hours of plopping his Dilbert calendar and family photographs on the Resolute Desk, he’ll have signed an executive order to cashier every one of the Obama czars. Then he’ll sign one to approve the oil pipeline from Canada to Houston. By lunch, he’ll have moved the U.S. embassy in Israel to Jerusalem. Next up would be re-instituting Ronald Reagan’s Mexico City policy, to forbid spending money to subsidize abortion overseas…

By the time ex-President Obama “lands in Chicago,” he aims to have repealed “40 percent of Obama’s government.”

"Newt is definitely the heavy weight"

Must be from that baggage car he's strapped around his ankles as he attempts to walk on water.

Aren’t there a lot of grants out there to go to school, and maybe finish your post grad work, and some of them come with living stipends...

he makes a lot of counterpoints to alot of the arguments raged against newt often:

* He might have big ideas, but the congress will keep him inline...

* He’s an insider with all that attendant knowledge, but also was a reformer, and promises to be one again...

* he shut the govt down... which rush and levin, who support RS were pleading for boehner to do... And stood up for the country, lost seats, but put country first...

* the debates don’t even require comment

* THE MEDIA - Conservatives have been praying for someone who isn’t afraid of the media, yet they vote for fawning romney and pandering rick... this is a really good package in this article..

OH MY GOD THIS IS A REAL FIND... THANK YOU SO MUCH..

There is another very good article you can read: Why Newt Fights: History inspires him, by Robert Costa

http://www.nationalreview.com/articles/290490/why-newt-fights-robert-costa

Excerpt: "To those who know him best, Gingrich is a man whose ambition is fueled by history, both personal and political. Romney irritates him, to be sure, but it is grander aspirations that inspire him, friends say. His dogged push to remain in contention, they assure me, is not mean-spirited moxie but the grit of a 68-year-old with big dreams.

Jackie Cushman (his daughter) says, Gingrich “truly believes that this presidential campaign, and politics, is his service to his country.” Quietly bowing out, simply to return to private life, would be out of character. “This is not some personal vendetta,” she says. “You volunteer to run for president. No one forces you to do it. This is what he feels he is supposed to be doing. I’m sure the Romney people would love for him to drop out, but it’s not going to happen. He’s got that infantry mentality — he’ll keep trudging ahead.”

Longtime Gingrich watchers cite another factor for his refusal to quit: His place in the history books. They respect that he may find the odds of winning if he remains in the race appealing. But they caution that encouraging poll numbers in certain states are not the only impetus for his obstinacy. Even if he loses, “he becomes the classic insurgent,” says Frank Gregorsky, Gingrich’s former chief of staff

Gregorsky observes that Gingrich’s career is a story of similar narratives, of caustic tussles and unpredictable resurrections. “He thinks that he embodies the truth and the way. As he struggles, he is in his element. But an ego trip? No, no. That’s thinking too small about what he’s up to. It’s much more than that,” he says. “He’s out in the wilderness, where he is very comfortable. He was there for years, hitting the establishment. For him, it’s a noble thing.”

I don’t think her remarks were over the top, and certainly not anything that would have caused a violent reaction... I sort of remember there being a rowdy t-party event... they actually named an carrier after her yesterday or today... and she just giggled... it was really touching...

Many people say : "Anybody is better than Obama."

Not being Obama is not enogh.

It happens that among the actual panel, I think that the best qualified to beat Obama is Newt Gingrich.

He has the fighting spirit to trash Obama and tear any of his arguments to pieces, he has the experience how to reform the government and administration, he has the best economic plan to redress America, and he is probably the only one he isn't running for personal glory, but because he profoundly thinks that the Republic is in lethal danger. This is Reagan's legacy in Newt's mind.

As he himself said, he was driven back to politics by the Supreme Court decision that "In God we trust" is "unconstitutional". He counts to fight against anyone who tries to pervert the Constitution.

He made mistakes in his 50-year-long presence in American politics, but WHO hasn't? However, there is a chasm between Newt and the other contenders. No one can hold him a candle as far as intelligence, knowledge and experience are concerned. I've made a through research into his acts, writings and "Contract for America 21st century" before I came to this conclusion.

WHERE were the other presidential candidates during the electoral campaign fight to retake the Congress in 2010?

Newt was criss-crossing the country, supporting the Republican candidates and inflaming the enthusiasm of Republican base, explaining the importance to stop Obama destroying America.

However, there is a chasm between Newt and the other contenders. yes, and above that chasm America hangs in the balance.

How Conservative is Newt's Actual Voting Record in the House (1979-1999) ? (his voting record is 91% conservative over a period of 20 years)

Voted YES on the Reagan tax cut of 1981

Voted YES on the Reagan tax reform bill of 1986

Voted NO on the George H.W. Bush "Read My Lips" tax hike in 1990.

Voted NO on the Clinton tax hike in 1993.

Voted YES on the capital gains tax cut in 1997.

Voted NO on the Chrysler bailout in 1979

Voted YES on the Gramm-Rudman balanced budget bill in 1985

Voted YES on a balanced budget amendment (as part of the "Contract for America" effort that he led) in 1995

Led the effort and voted YES to cut $16.4 billion from the budget in 1995.

Voted YES on welfare reform in 1996

How much federal spending increased while Gingrich was Speaker of the House (1995-1999)?

Federal spending rose an average of 3.1% a year while he was Speaker - this is the lowest rate of spending growth over the last 30 years. Federal spending as a % of GDP fell from 21% to 18.5%, a whopping decline in 4 short years

Under Obama, a whopping 8.6% a year.

Mswalnut replies to R.Costa's article at National Review, 02/09/12:

"Whatever one might say about Newt, there is no denying the fact that he is the only candidate who had demonstrated with actual past accomplishments the attributes that our country gravely needs now.

And that is my main consideration in choosing our leader, not some nebulous idea like electability which implies voting according to how we think others will vote, which is ridiculous.

Some had pointed to the fact that Newt didn’t get on the ballot of some states as evidence he was ill-prepared to be president. But one can also argue that it shows his superior motive of wanting to do something only after seeing the dangerous course the nation is on, by jumping into the race even without a lot of resources. Compare that to Romney who for years wants to be president but who does not even see the problems the country is facing.

I hope Newt will do well in the rest of the primaries and become our nominee. If not, I can take great solace in my long-held belief that for better or worse (from our perspective), the outcomes of the primaries, as well as the general election, are not going to be decided by man. And until that final outcome is revealed, all man could/should do is work steadfastly toward his goal.

God bless you Newt and thank you for the courage in stepping up to the challenge when others aren’t."
