Fresh off primary victories in three states, presidential candidate Rick Santorum demonstrated his strong support for the individual right to keep and bear arms by visiting H&H Shooting Sports Complex in Oklahoma City en route to a rally today.
H&H is a NSSF Five Star member range owned by Miles and Jayne Hall.
The Santorum rally originally was scheduled to be held at H&H, but a surge of requests to attend the event forced a change to the Magnuson Hotel and Convention Center, where a crowd estimated at close to 2,000 gathered. The candidate delivered a speech that focused largely on energy, reported News On 6.
During his pre-rally visit at H&H, Santorum said, I wish we could have had it here, this would have been perfect.
He added, I am very impressed. It is easy to see why gun ownership is so strong here, and I stand tall with the Second Amendment.
Said Miles Hall, founder and president of H&H, It was a great honor to show a small but important part of the shooting industry to one of our presidential hopefuls.
(((((PING)))))
I would rather have a candidate that used guns for more than campaign photo-ops.
If guns have never been part of their daily life they likely really don’t care much about gun issues.
Santorum has a mixed voting record when it comes to gun rights. At least he didn’t say he was a small varmint hunter.
Look who he’s running against.
I don’t trust Ricky on guns.
Just heard on Fox News radio (about 1 minute ago) that Santorum is surging against Romney.
Santorum is showing some very good instincts.
He’s also surging on Intrade. Now Santorum is pretty much taking Gingrich’s place.
2 weeks ago my preference was that Santorum would throw his support to Gingrich.
I’m prepared to hope now, that Gingrich climbs aboard the Santorum express. A solid, in-Mitt’s face Gingrich endorsement of Santorum (along perhaps with a concurrent endorsement by Palin) might just knock Romney out of this thing.
Heard a pretty good quote this morning on an earlier news clip - a guy saying what he liked about Santorum, is that he knew without question, he could trust leaving his own grandchildren in his care.
Santorum has a lot more to offer than babysitting, but that’s a great endorsement from a grandfather.
And I agree with it. Santorum is the real deal.
Good!
Question for Rick: Being a bitter-clinger from Pennsylvania, how many and what guns do YOU own?
Each candidate who claims to be a "strong" 2nd Amendment supporter should be asked this, and followed up with "Would you sign HR 822 into law?"
Might have been a good idea if Santorum had focused on topics of Gun Ownership. That way the pictures reinforce the message. Just sayin’.
That said, it’s good to see Rick get some traction. As a Pennsylvania voter in a late primary that usually doesn’t matter much, I’d like the opportunity to vote for him and have it mean something.
Gun Owners of America (GOA) gives Santorum a higher lifetime rating than Gingrich.
I hate headline writers.
Does this mean “Suddenly Hot” referring to Santorum’s rise in popularity? Or, does it mean Suddenly, Hot Candidate Rick Santorum decides to visit a gun range?
I saw an article weeks ago that said he owns seven firearms. I believe he also said his favorite is his Kimber 1911. I don’t know how a grown man gets by with only seven, but that’s more than most D.C. politicians own.
Also, didn’t Santorum champion legislation designed to protect firearm manufacturers (and maybe dealers) from civil liability in cases filed by the anti-gun crowd.
So if Obama went out and bought a bunch of semi-autos, he would be a pro gun POTUS?
Rick got a A+ rating from gun groups.....I like him.
Newt is too much of a careerist for my taste.
Here’s a link to the story I read.
“Promoters or Poseurs: The GOP Candidates and Their Guns”
A+ from the NRA is a great rating.
Romney appears to be very soft on 2A.
Gingrich is not where I would like him to be on 2A.
Rick is good to go on this issue.
I am not a single issue voter but the candidates stand on 2A is very important to me. Ranks with unfettered energy production.
And Mitt has a NRA lifetime B rating. I don’t trust him either. Both show a fundemental “misunderstanding” of the constitution.
