That is just GREAT.

But do you realize the value of anecdote against statistics?

Maybe that is why so many more GED type people smoke - and so many people with advanced degrees do not - because they understand that anecdote is useless against the overwhelming statistics.

Statistically smokers are more likely to die young, have major health problems, be impotent, be litterers, be below the poverty line, and have less education.

You can cry about it all you want - but those are the facts.

I made ONE comment about how I would be sympathetic with smokers about a ban on smoking on the beach - IF they didn't throw out their buts everywhere like disgusting litterbugs.

Sorry that got people out of sorts, attacking my family and upbringing the the language I use.

I responded in kind with statistics that show how unfavorable smoking is to health, wealth, and education as far as likely outcomes.

I have no hatred for smokers. Just their habit of littering and starting forest fires with their butts. But this is a VERY emotional issue for some people - OBVIOUSLY.

If I receive no more posts attacking me and my family I will leave it be at that.

I would by sympathetic to the plight of smokers being banned from smoking on the beach - IF they were not throwing out their butts all over the beach - but they do - so I am not.

Because they are not the AVERAGE smoker. Like the numerous anecdotes offered as a defense against the overwhelming statistical evidence - they are both rather intelligent and well educated and middle class. I have known them for years and like many of my old friends - they smoke. I am not anti-smoker - despite the tendency of myopic smokers to think any criticism means I am “one of them”!

Like I said, I would have sympathy for smokers not being able to smoke on a public beach - IF they didn't litter butts all over the beach.

But they do - so I don't.

Will ANYBODY say or do anything about it? Or will they just continue to let their overseers/masters tell them what they can and cannot do?

My guess is they won't get off their fat asses and do anything at all. They deserve it.
