(CBS News) J.C. Penney is trying to rebuild its customer base with help from a new spokeswoman, Ellen DeGeneres. But a group called One Million Moms is accusing the company of "jumping on the pro-gay bandwagon."
DeGeneres responded to the group on her TV show Wednesday, saying, "I'm happy about (being the spokesperson) J.C. Penney is happy about it. But there's this group called One Million Moms that is not happy about it. And normally I try not to pay attention to my haters, but this time I'd like to talk about it because my haters are my motivators. This organization doesn't think I should be the spokesperson because I am gay. So for those of you tuning in for the first time, I'm gay. I hope you were sitting down. ... So they wanted to get me fired, and I'm proud and happy to say that J.C. Penney stuck by their decision to make me their spokesperson."
In a statement last week, J.C. Penney said it stands behind its partnership the talk show host.
On "CBS This Morning," Thursday, J.C. Penney chief executive officer Ron Johnson, said the company "shares the same values" as DeGeneres and that the decision to have her as a spokesperson was a "no-brainer."
"We don't look at it like a controversy. One of the great things about America is people can speak their mind. And you know, the organization that believes one thing has spoken and it was great to see Ellen share her views yesterday. And we stand squarely behind Ellen as our spokesperson and that's a great thing. Because she shares the same values that we do in our company. Our company was founded 110 years ago on the golden rule, which is about treating people fair and square, just like you would like to be treated yourself. And we think Ellen represents the values of our company and the values that we share."
who called for her to be fired?
No one I know of , I did however say that the left are much better defending their social issues than us on the right and for some to not even want to give up a show in TV is down right pathetic.
Not saying you either
Are you from this country?
they call it unAmerican to hide the fact that they can;t be bothered for standing up for what they say they stand for.
Pathetic that men and women throughout history have given up lives defending for what they thought was right, the south the north, revolution etc and yet now we can’t even get some to give up a TV show or stop shopping at home depot.
it really is pathetic how some on the right are now and it shows how successful the left has become that they can silence people through PC and make them that lazy they cannot find another store to go to
No one is telling you to sit down and shut up. Free speech is a guaranteed right ... just as it is that a company has the right to hire who they please. Boycott them. Send them letters. Go for it. They'll more than likely ignore you. They have an agenda. But again ... they have a right to that.

Try to be consistent.
Oops. Sorry for the double post. Stupid “smart” phone.
too many not willing to make a stand on our side sadly, give them their Hollywood media stars, their TV shows and their magazines then they are all set.
wouldn’t need to fire anyone if people stopped watching her show and stopped buying her product which in turn sends a message to other companies that pushing the queer agenda is not a good thing .
and knowing this now will you watch her show and still buy the products she endorses?
If you say yes then you are just helping what you are supposed to be against.
If you say no due to you making a stand based on your conservative principles then respect
Huh?!
The tabloid coverage of Ellen was instigated and sustained by the tabloids. Though the headlines were about Ellen, they were not there at the behest of Ellen. Yes she had a relationship, but she was not doing anything to promote the headlines. People buying the tabloid rags were promoting it. I don't buy or read tabloids so I cannot testify to their content. However, since the time of her first sitcom, I cannot remember a single quote from Ellen that promoted homosexuality. I have heard her defend herself when attacked and answer questions honestly.
There have been no corresponding tabloids proclaiming DeGeneress kindness, generosity, respectfulness nor lovingness, casting her as a Latter Day Oprah.
Since when do tabloids proclaim postive behavior by anyone? The fact is that Ellen through her show and several other groups she is active in provide cars, appliances, scholarships, financial assistance and a host of other forms of assistance to single moms, down on their luck families, childrens charities and families of the military. Much of it is displayed on her show, but the majority of it is done behind the scenes. But who really cares, Ellen is gay, so Ellen is EVIL.
The trouble with leftist thinking is that it is math-impaired. Losing an endorsement contract opportunity when she already has a television show, royalties from past work and a make-up endorsement contract elsewhere is hardly like driving a minimum-wage worker out into the snow. Get some perspective.
The particular "job" she was offered was to use her personality and all it represents to attract the JCP shopper. The mall and the library used to be two of the safe places parents could let their impressionable teenagers go to in relative safety without a parent. Now, both are purveyors of degeneracy with a glossy sheen of PC all over it.
Please go back through this thread and read the posts. You've no idea what you're talking about. Read the rest of my comments and try again please.

you said those two comments in one post.
See what I am getting at.
Now will you be buying her products she promotes and will you still watch her show?
Or as a conservative and a republican will you now be boycotting all of what she promotes and her show?
No, it isn't. The government cannot infringe upon a person's freedom of speech, but private groups and individuals aren't bound by it.
They have an agenda. But again ... they have a right to that.
Guess what? Free Republic ALSO HAS AN AGENDA, so why are you and a bunch of trolls siding with the militant homosexuals who are trying to destroy Free Republic's agenda?
asked you a question, it is really easy and you coudl have said yes or no instead of writing all of that so I’ll ask again/
and knowing this now will you watch her show and still buy the products she endorses?
simple yes or no
Then you're not reading the news reports.
