During an appearance on CNNs Piers Morgan, GOP presidential hopeful Ron Paul was asked whether as a man with daughters and granddaughters, Rep. Paul (R-TX) thinks that abortion is warranted if a woman has been impregnated by a rapist.
If its an honest rape, Paul replied, that individual should go immediately to the emergency room, I would give them a shot of estrogen. He claimed, however, that if a woman is seven months pregnant and says that she was raped, Its a little bit of a different story. Source
I do not believe that a fertilized egg is a baby
Then why are you opposed to abortion at all?
If it’s not a person, what’s the problem with killing it?
I oppose (almost all) abortion because the fertilized egg could become a person. At which stage of pregnancy that takes place is beyond me but this is why I support the morning after pill in the scenario which I described in my last post.
My 6 week old son showed a heart beat at 9 weeks of pregnancy on ultrasound. I would not consider abortion for any reason that late in pregnancy. On those pics the boy clearly had humanoid features and a heartbeat. And abortion of any kind at that point or later is clearly murder.
Are you aware—I forget his name—some
globalist pretend ‘ethisist’
who advocated parents being able to murder their children with impunity up to age 7 or 8 for whatever reason.
Words fail against such horrifics.
Peter Singer?
bet he’d like to change his public position today on some aspect of it.
I’ve been using it for a while, with mixed results.
Usually, if it’s someone I don’t have a relationship with already, they get angry.
Recently, I saw a related tactic used in “180”, where Ray asks “THE question”. (watch the movie on youtube to find out what THE question is)
FWIW, it’s always helpful to remember that EVERYONE is here as a result of pregnancy and delivery. There are no exceptions to that rule. Therefore, the notion that a woman has the right to rule her body is simply incorrect.
It is space provided by the law of nature.
She is property. A “tool” if you will for the purposes of birthing children until she wears out.
(mostly sarcastic)
She is female and part of nature is the birth of children. All of us got here that way. She is not unique in that regard.
What is the purpose of a woman?
No and no, but we're not talking about criminal prosecution, rather whether a rape occured. In the absence of physical violence, there likely will be none. Paul doesn't specify a time frame, in many cases after a few days there will be no definitive evidence. Other than the perps confession. Of course we both know this isn't a serious proposal. And if it were, we'd simply take the victims word for it, which is essentially abortion on demand, for a certain time frame. Paul prefers not to acknowledge that.
I'm open to other explanation. In the absence of physical violence, how would you conclusively determine a rape was committed, other than the statements of the participants.
Exactly. The “rape” exception would be the same as the “health” exception. Presumably it would include mental rape, just like mental health.
And that’s not even considering that even a real rape is not the baby’s fault, and that experience shows that its even MORE depressing to get raped and kill the baby than it is to get raped and give the baby up for adoption.
Ron Paul is playing to both sides, as usual. He has absolutely no real moral principles whatever. He has proved that again and again over the years.
As you know the “health” issue, in Judaism actually life, as in survival, is and would be the most abused. In the absence of strict regulation. Not sure there’s much need to throw that topic in the mix.
Never thought I'd see Motherhood denigrated on FR like a Womyn's Studies graduate seminar.
According to my wife.....making sure their husbands’ don’t screw up.
Lacking physical evidence (tears, abrasions, cuts and bruising) I would not support the rape exception.
Wow! Earlier you were talking about it depends on the definition of murder and now you are basically saying it's "above your paygrade."
I'm detecting a definite pattern here.

Sorry, what post was that? And the exact quote please.

The unceasing propaganda against mothers and children is to blame, imho. Women who stay home to raise their children have been ridiculed for the last fifty years.
Too many FReepers have no idea of what this site is about. They never read the home page and Jim's statement. They believe that Free Republic is a nice place to debate various issues. As a result, some of them are shocked to find that unyielding principles and values have a place here.
Name one human being subsequent to Adam and Eve who was not at some point what you refer to as "a fertilized egg."
Just one.
The irony is that his parents were Jews who fled Austria after the Anschluss and his grandparents died in the Holocaust.
