A group of Russian scientists plumbing the frozen Antarctic in search of a lake buried in ice for tens of millions of years have failed to respond to increasingly anxious U.S. colleagues -- and as the days creep by, the fate of the team remains unknown.
"No word from the ice for 5 days," Dr. John Priscu professor of Ecology at Montana State University, told FoxNews.com via email.

Not to worry, in the Kurt Russell remake, the monster wins.
Ever see “A Cold Night’s Death”?
1973, Made for TV movie.
Arctic station, researchers getting murdered....
Surprise ending, at least for me when I was much younger.
Not sure the movie survives, have looked for it from time to time.

Yeah, never forget Cthulhu. He hates that. Maybe “Lake of Madness” would be a good title.

More victims of the last remnants of the previous ice age. This is how dangerous global cooling is.
Something MUST be done before the entire planet plunges back into an endless winter!

I think I may start driving my 1978 Camaro to work. I took the catalytic converter off it to make room for the 30" glasspack mufflers and 3" dia. exhaust system.
Not only will the additional greenhouse gases help end this global cooling threat, but I oughta be able to shave a few minutes off my commute time as that car is a LOT faster than my Grand Am...

I don’t understand your comment about “at war with Eurasia.”
Most people don’t know what kerosene is anymore. It’s clear they’re trying to put an acceptable face on something that is environmentally pretty dubious. In contrast to the Russian effort, other scientific teams are using hot water which will have much less impact.

Please doctor, I've got to ask this. It sounds like, well, just as though you're describing some form of super carrot. Yeah... Doesn't quite have the same punch.

"So in order to keep the hole from squeezing shut, they put a fluid in the drill called kerosene. Kerosene also grows bacteria, and there's about 65 tons of kerosene in that hole. It would be a disaster if that kerosene contaminated this pristine lake."Unbelievable!
They're going to destroy this lake. All in the name of.. science.
And to what end? What knowledge do we need from this venture?
Leave it alone. Pump the kerosene out and go home.

“I dont understand your comment about at war with Eurasia.”
It’s an obscure reference to “1984” and propaganda.
“Most people dont know what kerosene is anymore.”
I agree. As one poster referred to it, they could have called it airplane fuel, but that wouldn’t have made the drilling sound as eco-friendly.
