In a new national radio ad released Wednesday, Rick Santorum lambasted Newt Gingrich over the former House speaker's declining poll numbers and second place finish in Florida's primary.

"Despite spending millions, Newt Gingrich went from a big lead to a big defeat. Why? Because voters discovered Gingrich wasn't a true conservative," the narrator says in the ad.

Win over the Reagan Democrats?!?

What helped Reagan win over those Democrats was the governmental philosphy best summed up in Reagan's quote:

"I'm convinced that today the majority of Americans want what those first Americans wanted: A better life for themselves and their children; a minimum of government authority. Very simply, they want to be left alone in peace and safety to take care of the family by earning an honest dollar and putting away some savings. This may not sound too exciting, but there is something magnificent about it. On the farm, on the street corner, in the factory and in the kitchen, millions of us ask nothing more, but certainly nothing less than to live our own lives according to our values — at peace with ourselves, our neighbors and the world.

Whereas Santorum, in his own words, believes:

“This whole idea of personal autonomy, well I don’t think most conservatives hold that point of view. Some do. They have this idea that people should be left alone, be able to do whatever they want to do, government should keep our taxes down and keep our regulations low, that we shouldn’t get involved in the bedroom, we shouldn’t get involved in cultural issues. You know, people should do whatever they want. Well, that is not how traditional conservatives view the world and I think most conservatives understand that individuals can’t go it alone.”

Makes one wonder how Santorum is conservative at all. I figure a guy like this, if there was the technology to install behavior-control chips in people... would go for it in a heartbeat.

Both Santorum and Reagan believed in a safety net for those who through no fault of their own are helpless and that quote of Santorum was directed at that objective.

Point is, Santorum’s idea of conservativism is, in his own words, diametrically opposite of Reagan’s vision.

For Reagan believed that government was the problem... and Santorum believes it to be solution.

Not Romney, Not Gingrich, it was Santorum who opposed TARP.

Palin is Trig’s grandmother. NOT his mother.

“Palin is Trig’s grandmother. NOT his mother.”

Belay that, O dark hundred brain fart, confused with Bristol’s child.

Nevertheless the whole family was on the road - together - on 2008. Palin was then and is now available for Trig. Santorum is when the schedule permits or the kid is hospitalized. Will he drop his duties as President or Romney’s VP when Bella is sick? Anyway, his candidacy is insignificant except for his vote dilution and ratification of big government neo-conservatism.

Palin is Trig’s MOTHER, not his grandmother. And if you’re thinking of pushing that Andrew Sullivan crap here on FR, you won’t be long for this site.

“Palin DIDN’T run because of her children.

Santorum IS running despite having a child that will NOT live long.

You can try and twist that all you like. It is what it is. The dude is a skunk!”

I think he is more just the default politician. A small man of small virtues, small vices, and pathologically grandiose ego, as are the vast majority of politicians.

“His recent rush to take care of his sick daughter showed him as someone with the right priorities...”

Actually it revealed the context of his entire campaign. His priorities are very, very skewed. Part time dad, part time candidate. Would he be a part time POTUS?

That would be a good thing. Santorum places the highest value on his family, imagine that!

Untrue. He would be with them if it were true.

Newt has no trouble endorsing gun-grabbing, abortion pushing, homosexual approving candidates and has done it many times in the past over the conservative candidate. Scozzafava? Sure, excuse that one away. Meanwhile, if you think Newt regrets sitting on that sofa with Pelosi, you are living in another dimension!

"Palin is Trig’s grandmother. NOT his mother."

I'm sorry. I don't see the point of carrying on any further discussion with somebody who wants to make up their own facts as they go along.

and has done it many times in the past o

Name the candidates. Other than Scozzafava.

I was pretty mad about her. But then I voted for McCain in 2008 so I have little room to complain about someone else.

Meanwhile, if you think Newt regrets sitting on that sofa with Pelosi, you are living in another dimension!

OMG! Newt sat on couch with Pelosi?! OMG! OMG!

Get a clue. So what. He testified AGAINST Crap & Tax in Congress and in 2008 wrote a book Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less.
