Gingrich: 'I Pledge to You My Life, My Fortune, My Sacred Honor'

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich invoked the spirit of the Founding Fathers by paraphrasing the Declaration of Independence in his speech to supporters following his second-place finish in the Florida Republican presidential primary.

Gingrich, a trained historian and author, began his 15-minute speech by noting President Abraham Lincoln’s 1863 Gettysburg Address at the dedication of the first national military cemetery when he spoke of “government of the people, by the people, for the people."

“And we’re going to have people power to defeat money power in the next six months,” he said in a reference to Florida victor Mitt Romney, whom he referred to as the “Massachusetts moderate.”

Closing out his remarks, Gingrich stressed his commitment to unleashing the spirit of the American people and called on supporters to reach out to friends across the country to tell them they have a chance to nominate a conservative.

"I promise you that, if I become your president, I pledge to you my life, my fortune, my sacred honor," he concluded. ...

I thought he OTHERWISE gave a very good post-election speech there, though. He swung for the fences at the end part (Declaration bit), and, for me personally, whiffed on that bit. Many probably thought he hit it out of the park.

I was a bit uncomfortable with the invocation of that particular [line.]

Agreed, 100%.

He started young too. Probably coined that phrase when he was 16 or so.

I wish Gingrich would start calling Romney out for what he is: A Massachusetts Liberal. There’s very little “moderate” when it comes to his past.

I have no love at all for either of these guys. I liked Gingrich a little before this campaign, but he has really made an ass of himself. I also wasn’t aware of the severity of his past marital infidelity, which is FAR worse than I knew. He isn’t drastically different than Bill Clinton in that regard, only with fewer women.....

Don’t have time to read the entire arrticle, but I just hope he didn’t go on to demonize Joseph Smith’s White Horse!

Newt needs to say just what and how he will do to restore the country! The people are sick of all the vitriol! I am amazed that so many of the Floridians fell for LDS Bishop Ronney’s hateful lies about the Grinch! They are old enough to know better!

I am a Newt supporter but he always seems to go just one step too far, rhetorically speaking. Instead of talking about a vibrant space program and talking about America’s great accomplishments to stir and empassion a crowd he decides to attempt a Kennedy moment and talks about a moon base before his second term is out.

Instead of talking about the great vision of our founders to give hope to his supporters he decides to channel the founders outright and pledge his life, fortune and sacred honor... no matter what happens he keeps his life and fortune and most don’t see his sacred honor as too sacred to begin with.

He is still 100 times better than Romney and Obozo but he needs to know exactly where that invisible line of inspiraion ends and fodder for talkshow hosts begins.

Newt is usually unscripted. He would be quite an impressive communicator if he stuck, ever so loosely, to set talking points and didn’t stray into over-the-top rhetoric quite as much.

Well I’d also like to inform you that we pulled out of Vietnam and the Soviet Union has collapsed. You’re welcome.

The Wall Streeters and GOP-e (as well as the libs) will do everything in their power to derail Newt. Santorum needs to abandon the race immediately so there are 2 distinct choices in the party. If not soon then Willard will be the nominee and, accordingly to George Soros, there is not much difference between him and Barry the socialist.

Sounds desparate and a little kooky coming from him. Sorry, just call it as I see it.

You people are making a big mistake by dithering about candidates personal baggage. They all have it, we all have it, and this is nnot the time to dwell on that stuff. Decide who you think will be able to lead this country out of the dark. Do you think Obama’s ideology is best suited for that? If so vote for him. If you think Romney can lead us out vote for him. If you think like I do that Gingrich is the best leader vote for him. This is serious business and if you keep dwelling on moral baggage concerning personal lives and marriage problems you most likely not end up with the leader who can withstand the storm that is coming.

SAntorum has now begun to speak against Newt....though I once thought higher of Santorum I do not now....he’s in this clearly for himself and the heck with the country. Had he not spoken out against Newt as he’s doing now I could have tolerated him ....no more!
