The Republican Establishment's Strategic Blunder
The American Thinker ^ | January 30, 2012 | Steve McCann

The RepublicanParty has a tenuous hold on the conservative movement in America. At present the only home for the 40 per cent of the electorate that identify themselves as conservative is the Republican Party, but it appears that those who are nominally identified as the "Republican Establishment" are doing all they can to alienate the vast majority of the current base of the Party.

There is no office on ConnecticutAvenue in Washington with a sign reading "The RepublicanEstablishment" or the "The Democratic Establishment"; rather it is an amalgam of like-minded groups with one common interest: control of the government purse-strings.

The Republican Establishment is made up of the following: 1) many current and nearly all retired Republican national office holders whose livelihood and narcissistic demands depends upon fealty to Party and access to government largesse; 2) the majority of the conservative media, including pundits, editors, writers and television news personalities based in Washington and New York whose proximity to power and access is vital to their continued standard of living; 3) numerous think-tanks and members thereof who are waiting to latch on to the next Republican administration for employment and ego-gratification; and 4) the reliable deep pocket political contributors and political consultants whose future is irrevocably tied to the political machinery of the Party.

The overriding interest of this cabal has been and continues to be: the accumulation of power through the control of the income, borrowing and spending by the Federal Government. Thus, with the exception of the presidency of Ronald Reagan and the Republican controlled House of Representatives from 1995 to 1999, the Republican members of the Ruling Class have been content since 1952 to merely slow down the big-government policies of the Democrats while publicly decrying their tax and spend policies.

This insider apparatus has been the....

Then don't pay, duh. You are paying TWICE - to stop it and again when that doesn't work, stuck on stupid.

Excuse me, I am forced to pay taxes at every level of government. A portion of that tax is required to fund socialist programs. The left has legislated 'charity' and call it compassion.

........She is stupid if she thinks people can't see through her.

Perino is stupid. Listening to her makes it painfully obvious, that there is much truth in the saying, "It's not what you know but who you know."

Thanks for that background info ...I saw the sad story on the Ch 12 NBC affiliate; but, hadn't followed the story as I live in the Tri-Cities. (I always monitor the enemy.)

Are you hearing many people in your area are upset about the “fixed” VA primary. Currently, my plan is to vote for Ron Paul (unless they decide to allow “write ins”) in the primary in order to try to deny Romney those delegates ...probably won't work; but, maybe it will send a message if enough folks do it. I'm open to suggestions if yo have any better ideas on how to let the VA GOP elites that we're on to them.

Cantor is a sleazebag, a fraud and part of the problem. Ken Cuccinelli seem to be a bit of a maverick ...hope his heart is in the right place and he doesn't end up co-opted or sabotaged by McDonnell & Boles!

Regards.

The Republican Establishment is basically dim light, and I have no use for a number of the elites in DC. Remember our candidate in 2008 said there was no reason to fear an 0bummer presidency. We here knew better, but there were too many “white guilt” voters.

We are in major agreement here!! As for voting, folks are LIVID about the ballot situation. Most folks I know are voting Ron Paul (me, too), if they vote at all. My elderly folks weren't going to vote, but I think they may go and vote Paul after watching Romney's vicious tactics in FL - they love Newt. It is going to be very interesting to see how the final vote comes out & some heads will explode if Paul manages to get by Romney.

Great article!

The fix is in by the Beltway Establishment. It remains to be seen if it will stay in. If it does, America is scruwed.

It’s sad to see them use Alinsky methods on their own side.

Most infuriating is, we all know for a fact that, should Mittens win, he and the Establishment will *not* go after Obama like they have Newt. Not even close. The tone will again be, "We have nothing to fear from Barak Obama in the White House."

And the religious right conspires with the left to give them the power to do that in return for the power to impose religious morals in the drug area since 1937. Check out Scalia on the Commerce Clause. It is the same power. The problem is the power, to abridge liberty and help evade responsibility, not the people who happen to be using that power to their own ends.

If a conservative third party must be created it should be called something like the “New Republicans”.

I've liked "Founders Party."

Well you better find a way to USE as much as you possibly can, because when this 'flesh' age ends there won't be anymore using taking place. That is one activity that is already term limited and neither the 'left' or the 'right' had any say in that declaration.

Excellent. Good job! ‘Glad to hear your parents are on board and that folks up your way are as stirred up as I am!!! Paul is such a looney toon w/some of his policies (although he is excellent on fiscal policy and the FED); plus a large percentage of his backers are Lefties. That means it may be hard to get folks to understand we need to “support” him to stop Romney in any way we can.

Maybe we can get some Dems to vote for Paul ...wouldn't that be a hoot! Going to call my former co-worker at Ft Lee ...she's retired enlisted, black female and votes Dem, but she's honest, a hard worker and a good person. Since Obama will be unopposed in the Dem primary maybe I can get her to vote for Paul in the Republican pseudo-Primary! This could be fun. Maybe get some Ron Paul buttons and where them upside down w/”No Romney” in permanent marker on them ...so we can send a msg that we are the resistance; not PaulBots.

Try to sell your homosexual, abortion, porn culture to the founding generations of America, it couldn’t happen, they would make today’s mere social conservatives look like left wing libertarians.

I personally think that many in the GOP elite are content on not only ceding the Presidency to Obama this year, but also the House majority and the Senate. They would be content at only holding the fillabuster, and would be OK in losing that power as well. Thus, they can criticize the Democrats without actually having to do anything to oppose them.

I live on the left coast, so I’m not sure what show you watched. It doesn’t sound good, though.

“In other words the elitists like her from DC and the north east decide who our candidate is and we should vote for what they say and if we do get a SC vote then the establishment comes out in full force in attack mode with the help of Drudge, FOX, Coulter, etc.”

I’ve seen scorched earth tactics in the general election and in the dem primaries last election but, witnessing as many primaries that I have, I’ve never seen it on such public display, nor so nasty, in the rep primaries.

I think the reps took a look at Obama vs Hillary, and proceeded accordingly.

I think the poster child for this nasty election is Ann Coulter.
