The Republican Establishment's Strategic Blunder
The American Thinker ^ | January 30, 2012 | Steve McCann

Posted on 01/30/2012 12:08:01 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

The RepublicanParty has a tenuous hold on the conservative movement in America. At present the only home for the 40 per cent of the electorate that identify themselves as conservative is the Republican Party, but it appears that those who are nominally identified as the "Republican Establishment" are doing all they can to alienate the vast majority of the current base of the Party.

There is no office on ConnecticutAvenue in Washington with a sign reading "The RepublicanEstablishment" or the "The Democratic Establishment"; rather it is an amalgam of like-minded groups with one common interest: control of the government purse-strings.

The Republican Establishment is made up of the following: 1) many current and nearly all retired Republican national office holders whose livelihood and narcissistic demands depends upon fealty to Party and access to government largesse; 2) the majority of the conservative media, including pundits, editors, writers and television news personalities based in Washington and New York whose proximity to power and access is vital to their continued standard of living; 3) numerous think-tanks and members thereof who are waiting to latch on to the next Republican administration for employment and ego-gratification; and 4) the reliable deep pocket political contributors and political consultants whose future is irrevocably tied to the political machinery of the Party.

The overriding interest of this cabal has been and continues to be: the accumulation of power through the control of the income, borrowing and spending by the Federal Government. Thus, with the exception of the presidency of Ronald Reagan and the Republican controlled House of Representatives from 1995 to 1999, the Republican members of the Ruling Class have been content since 1952 to merely slow down the big-government policies of the Democrats while publicly decrying their tax and spend policies.

This insider apparatus has been the....

The overriding interest of this cabal has been and continues to be: the accumulation of power through the control of the income. . .

Thus, the Establicans of both sides are melding into One Thing: a single, government Party along the lines of every Socialist state.

Will we see more conservative leaders step up at this critical time (the mask is off, so there is no longer a reason to be coy) or will they too disappoint and betray and fall in line behind Mitt?

It’s time to give us their best or get the hook. We are all sick and tired of being mollycoddled into compliance.

This article spells out nicely why I consider myself an Independant Conservative rather than merely a “Republican.”

If a conservative third party must be created it should be called something like the “New Republicans”.

It would be useful to link the party to the Republican party as much as possible... bill it as an offshoot that seeks to reform the GOP. Welcome all true conservative republicans to join.

If Mitt gets the nomination then Newt should run on a third party ticket. He would at least take the fight to Obama. He could wring a few promises out of Mitt in exchange for throwing support to him near election day. Not sure if Mitt’s word is worth much though...

“Perhaps Newt Gingrich or Rick Santorum or Ron Paul are not the right candidates to face Barack Obama, but that decision should be up to the voters. While it maybe the role of the conservative pundit class to proffer their opinions of the various candidates, it is not the role of the overall Establishment to so marginalize candidates that there appears to be only one viable alternative.

The Establishment could not have made a more strategic blunder. They will, in all likelihood, succeed in securing the nomination for Mitt Romney, but the damage they have inflicted upon themselves is approaching irreversible. The public now sees the length to which the Establishment will go to make certain their hand-picked candidate is chosen.”

It’s sad to see them use Alinsky methods on their own side.

They are flirting with disaster.

BTW, I think this explains the sudden two day open registration on Hot Air.

Again, excellent thread! Thank you!

Excellent article, Even to the casual observer, it has become apparent, obvious as a baby with a big schlong, how big a joke the whole process has become, Just like certain NFL games, the outcome is rigged,

Mark it down, Obama will beat Mitts, Newt is taking one for the team to make things appear legitimate, to keep the base distracted until its too late, Cain, Bachman, and Perry bridged the gap until Newt and the primaries,

It is the Bob Dole Play from 1996 all over again, The RNCs playbook is as predictable as Mike Mularkeys,

One thing I disagree on. Conservatives (center right) are in the majority. Many of them were raised as Democrats and have thus far remained somewhat loyal. They are however, fiscal and social conservatives and closer to the base of the Republican party than they are to the Pelozi, Reid, cabal that is the national leadership of the DNC.

Just like in the GO PEE the conservatives remain divided. A party which could combine the grass roots conservatives of both parties would have the majority, but the elites with all their money have a way of infiltrating and taking over such movements and inserting wedge issues to keep the American people arguing and distracted, while they do what they want to our detriment.

They differ only on which freedoms they want to take.

The left wants your economic freedoms.

The right wants your moral freedoms and privacy.

The government designed by the Founders was incapable of providing either group of busybodies with the means of controlling your life.

Back then, vigilance groups of one ilk or another burned your house down and strung you up if you exercised a freedom they didn’t like.

But you could shoot back, at least if you were White.

That’s America.

It is all about money and power, not on just a national scale, but on a global scale. This is called globalism.

In the context used here, American power players and Wall Street interests who have dominated international commerce and established monetary structures in a Global network that requires military strength projected worldwide as protection from Third World aggression. It is commonly referred to as protecting US interests overseas but has grown far beyond that in reality.

Huge international conglomerates have developed and moved American jobs overseas. It has in the past been neither conservative nor liberal in orientation and both Democrats and Republicans have been involved over the decades.

Now there is a struggle between businesses and the international labor unions, who support global social justice - communism in another guise. Obama is their puppet. And it IS a struggle, with dire results for U.S. Conservatives if they don’t choose the right champion for the American people.

Neither group, business or organized labor, gives a damn about the rights of individuals. The common man, or woman, on the street is just a “unit” to be taxed or obliterated, it matters not to them.

The last thing that either group wants is for conservatives with Bibles and guns asserting their God-given rights and demanding that Washington, D.C., changes how it does business.

I don't think Mitt keeps promises or that anyone expects him to. Thus his abysmal lack of support and the reason Newt is ahead of him nationally.

Yesterday Newt said he's down in Florida because he's being carpet-bombed (and he certainly is) and that he is ahead nationally because all the guns are trained on him in Florida. If Mitt comes out of Florida with a healthy win he will be insufferable as will his handmaidens (and their money and ink) which are outlined so well in McCann's column.

The money and muscle is going to Mitt (and he has his own $$$ to draw on that he'll get back in spades) so it really is time for us to put our money on the line. We can NOT remain a silent majority. How long can we let the D.C.-New York Syndicate demand that we pay their bills, rescue their failed business and funnel money to their friends to continue this farce?

The threat that Newt poses from K-Street to Wall Street is a show we don't want to end in Florida or after Super Tuesday -- but rather watch for 8 years as Newt holds the bully pulpit, the veto pen and the judicial nominations.

I for one, want to help Newt write the next chapter in U.S. expceptionalism. I want to see power restored to the states and to the people. I want my grandchildren watching a president inspire a country to greatness (to dream) and work to get government out of their way so it happens.

I want my grandchildren to be Americans and to hold all the pride and chance of success that comes with being an American.

Good post CW! :-)

I’d love it if Newt could find a spot for Perry. Of course he is still at work in TX.

I used to live in El Paso, would like to go back someday.

Who is identifying and naming names on who is who and which is which?...

We start by identifying groups..
FOX News is looking increasingly questionable..
O’Really may be the Propaganda Miester.. to disorient and confuse..

Shemp Smith and “Eddie Munster” Cavuto are vacuous..

Anyone who is paying attention knows who’s who.

But drawing up lists is a waste of time now, it’s time to push back and give Newt some wind at his back — and it will only come with backing from the “silent majority” and TURN OUT!!
