The Republican Establishment's Strategic Blunder
The American Thinker ^ | January 30, 2012 | Steve McCann

Posted on 01/30/2012 12:08:01 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

The RepublicanParty has a tenuous hold on the conservative movement in America. At present the only home for the 40 per cent of the electorate that identify themselves as conservative is the Republican Party, but it appears that those who are nominally identified as the "Republican Establishment" are doing all they can to alienate the vast majority of the current base of the Party.

There is no office on ConnecticutAvenue in Washington with a sign reading "The RepublicanEstablishment" or the "The Democratic Establishment"; rather it is an amalgam of like-minded groups with one common interest: control of the government purse-strings.

The Republican Establishment is made up of the following: 1) many current and nearly all retired Republican national office holders whose livelihood and narcissistic demands depends upon fealty to Party and access to government largesse; 2) the majority of the conservative media, including pundits, editors, writers and television news personalities based in Washington and New York whose proximity to power and access is vital to their continued standard of living; 3) numerous think-tanks and members thereof who are waiting to latch on to the next Republican administration for employment and ego-gratification; and 4) the reliable deep pocket political contributors and political consultants whose future is irrevocably tied to the political machinery of the Party.

The overriding interest of this cabal has been and continues to be: the accumulation of power through the control of the income, borrowing and spending by the Federal Government. Thus, with the exception of the presidency of Ronald Reagan and the Republican controlled House of Representatives from 1995 to 1999, the Republican members of the Ruling Class have been content since 1952 to merely slow down the big-government policies of the Democrats while publicly decrying their tax and spend policies.

This insider apparatus has been the....

AND snail mail is very effective (and satisfying). It represents the feelings of 20 or more for each one that they receive as it takes time (emotion) to send it.

Email, tweet, Facebook, phone friends and family, call shows, go to rallies, get on the air. Send money to Newt. Cancel your subscriptions. Turn off your sets and radios. Stop buying their products.

DO IT ALL.

think I will send a snail mail off to FOX, etc , you;re right.

I’m going out later to talk to a few people and get them to vote for Newt and ten later go to the last few neighbors here to get them for Newt.

It is amazing how many was going to vote for Romney due to FOX.
I wish I had a dollar every time I talked to someone and they said”Well I was watching FOX and they said “

Fox is the biggest reason here in FL right now where I live.

The lies about Newt are getting out and working, and when I tell folks how he ran to the left of Kennedy, wants the homosexual agenda, basically never done a damn thing for the conservative cause and has APPOINTED LIBERAL JUDGES then people here are disgusting and always say”I did not know this why is FOX not mentioning any of this”

After the first day of me going out I got a bunch of info to show these people and they said they will vote for Newt now but I can only get a few people, media like FOX is getting to a few millions in seconds/

I know I have at least 50 people voting for Newt, and I am trying to get more but what we need is to get a bigger platform like a TV Station to take on the lies which are being put out

The crowd who control the Republican Vichy Party are quite comfortable enjoying the perks of power while not being bothered with any more of the responsibility for governance than fascist democrat party cedes them. They have exactly the same attitude so many French politicians had after the Germans overran half of France and they’ve made the same sort of deal with the Devil.

The Republican Vichy have ceased to care winning control of Congress and are happy to have just enough power to keep the fascists from having veto proof majorities while leaving the messy details of governance to the fascist party. They rationalize this view by telling one another that the unwashed masses wouldn’t listen to their betters anyway so let them listen to the fascists. They are typical of a group that long considered itself the elite but has to deal with and through those who do not automatically agree that they are elite or grant them that role. The Vichy Republicans have never come to grips with the fact that while the fascists can count on near slavish obedience from their party faithful, the Vichy have had to deal with a far more independent sort of follower. If they could not rule rather than represent and would not automatically be granted the role and deference due the elite, they saw no reason to put out the extra effort it takes to be the majority party. Instead, they would hang onto the trappings of power without more than token democrat challenges in select places, and in exchange they would would become a traditional, “opposition party” always willing to look out for their own leaderships interests but never bothering to try and go beyond being the minority Party.

Reagan, Newt, Palin, and others like them are the sort of folks the Vichy machine knows it needs to a certain degree because it is such folks who can motivate the anti-fascists to get out and vote in reasonable numbers. Without a reasonably large block of support, the Vichy become useless rather than useful in the eyes of the fascist occupiers. The solution the Vichy arrived at after watching the Reagan Revolution and the ensuing rise of those like Rush who are dedicated to victory over the fascists rather than compromise with them, was to enable a sizable group of pundits and media personalities of their own. Media folks who can talk the talk of being anti-fascist but who know which side their bread is buttered on and snap to attention when the Vichy Republicans let them know they have to oppose a renegade like Palin or Newt.

By it’s very nature, “loyal opposition party” strategies cannot work for more than three or four election cycles at best and in reality, they all degenerate into political Russian roulette. Sooner or later, "those people" will manage to get veto proof majorities, and probably get those veto proof majorities on the coattails of a fascist Presidential victory. Unwilling to admit their “opposition party” strategy has failed, the policy of the Vichy Republicans has been to attack any opposition within it’s own ranks, a policy that makes it nearly impossible for them to change strategies even if they ever realize how badly their current strategy has failed. And thus, we come to 2008 when while playing Russian roulette, the hammer fell on a loaded chamber.

We now find ourselves in the same position as Frenchmen were in after the fall of France in 1940. Power is in the hands of the fascists, some of the most vocal anti-fascists have turned out to be on the payroll of the Vichy if not the fascists themselves, and those who should be leading the fight against the fascists have accepted defeat and worked out a compromise with them. For us, there are no Allied Forces who can drop in OSS specialists to help train and organize resistance, there is no, " Arsenal of Democracy", we can hope will be coming to our rescue, and there are no masses of organized forces pressuring the fascists on another front to make our battle somewhat easier. There is only those of us who refuse to submit.

Only us. Those of us who remember what this country was like before the occupation, those of us who even risked life and limb to ensure we would never be an occupied nation, and those who may not remember what it was like prior to the occupation but do care enough to stay awake rather being lulled to sleep by fascist propaganda. Every day, more and more people accept defeat and like the Vichy Republicans, make whatever accommodation they can with what they've been convinced will never be rolled back. And every day there are fewer of us who actually remember how things were prior to the occupation.

Either this year we defeat the Vichy Republicans in this battle in Florida, defeat them the following battles in the balance of the primaries, defeat them in the battle of the convention, and by defeating the Vichy win nothing but the opportunity to battle the fascists themselves in even tougher battles, or we admit defeat. This isn't about the next for years, it's about the next four decades and whether this nation will continue to be the great exception in history or not. Lose this year, and we then have to confront the same fact Lincoln confronted, "a nation divided against itself cannot long stand". And the most sure way to losing this year is to have Mitt Romney as the Republican nominee for President

JMHO

They differ only on which freedoms they want to take. The left wants your economic freedoms. The right wants your moral freedoms and privacy. The government designed by the Founders was incapable of providing either group of busybodies with the means of controlling your life. Back then, vigilance groups of one ilk or another burned your house down and strung you up if you exercised a freedom they didn’t like. But you could shoot back, at least if you were White. That’s America.

The right wants your moral freedoms and privacy.

So what 'morals' and what 'privacy' has the 'right' deprived you? Those that are on the 'right' do not want to have to pay you or for you when you have no morals and claim 'rights' NOT endowed by the Creator. There are plenty of places around this globe to set up shop, if people want rights never endowed by the Creator.

I think it is going to literally take a wake up call by the Creator Himself to get some peoples attention.... Nothing anyone does is kept secret from Him and He is said to keep copious notes on the good and the bad.

FOX DRUDGE etc have overplayed their hand now for my family . They have got so dirty in their bias that I cannot and will not vote for their guy Romney.

The establishment thinks because we hate obama that we will just vote anyway for Romney like we did last time in 2008 when they pout Sarah on the ticket but no more, not ever.
Fool me once etc

Perhaps we should reconsider our disappointment with F&F. After all, Gretchen is a former Miss America, Doocey is a former weather announcer and Kilmeade is a former sportscaster. Those are huge intellectuals and Constitutional heavyweights.

Humor - God’s safety valve;)

Here is a sordid tale of an attack by the 'Republican political establishment' to take out a Republican who caused 'shockwaves' by running for an office where they were counting on an incumbent to stay in power. (On the front page of our local paper this a.m.). BTW, there is a national politician mentioned .... you might recognize the name (hint ... spelled 'Cantor')

Matthew Geary found dead in apparent suicide

Exerpt: Geary, who had been chief deputy in the Richmond Commonwealth's Attorney's Office, won the endorsement for prosecutor nearly two years ago from the Henrico Fraternal Order of Police.

The endorsement sent shockwaves through the Henrico Republican political establishment, which had counted on then-incumbent Wade A. Kizer running for re-election.

Geary's campaign ran into trouble after a highly orchestrated attack on his character by Republican leaders, including U.S. Rep. Eric Cantor, R-7th. The leaders revealed that Geary had engaged in an affair with a married woman in recent years.

Geary fully admitted to the affair but said it had ended, yet political opponents used the relationship to question Geary's judgment and responsibility, supporting instead longtime Henrico Del. Bill Janis, who abandoned years of work in the General Assembly and the party label to take on Geary. Geary, the official Republican candidate, refused to abandon his campaign, despite a public request that he do so by the Henrico County Republican Committee.

The Janis-Geary battle split the Republican ticket, although Janis was obligated to run as an independent. The split helped usher in Taylor as the first woman in county history to win the commonwealth's attorney's post and the first Democrat to win it in some 20 years.

thanks, I have a few people coming round later.

No doubt I’ll get the usual “I was watching FOX and they did not say this are you sure”

At least this video here will stop that usual comment

And will Rush “Revere” be with us or will he show us that his shout and plea, “Run a conservative and they will win!!” to his listeners rings hollow and that he too is one of the pod people?

I enjoyed your essay.

Hmmmmmmm. What rotten, evil political tactics.

I guess Rick Perry should be glad he’s a man of virtue, or the Bush-Rove-Hutchison Machine would have rolled over him when he decided to run again and not give the keys to the mansion to Kay Bailey — they’ve dented him but he’s still standing.

Thank you...again.

The one who bugs me the most...and I don't know WHY...is Dana Perino. I'm sick of her commercials for Romney on Fox News every time she opens her mouth. She is so blatantly obvious it's just disgusting.

This morning on F&F, they played a tape of Sarah talking about Newt. Perino had the audacity to say, "Why doesn't she come out and endorse him."

Why doesn't Perino come out and publicly endorse Romney? She is stupid if she thinks people can't see through her.

Great article and spot on!

Is there any plan developing for what to do in the event Newt loses and Romney is the candidate. We at least need a strategy on how to unify a protest vote in order that it will send a msg that cannot be “spun” by the likes of Cable TV, Rush, Beck, Karl Rove, Dana Perino, Steve Schmidt et al?

By the way, does anyone know how the total percentage of individuals on the government “dole” derived? For example, does that figure include federal and military retiree's? If it does, then I believe many of those individuals are conservative and can be won over. The majority of retired military are pretty conservative and many DoD civilians are, as well. The problem is they are being misled and misinformed by the various media propaganda.

Then don't pay, duh. You are paying TWICE - to stop it and again when that doesn't work, stuck on stupid.
