Will you have any regrets if your staying in the race gives Romney the nomination.

If my child were sick and near death wild horses couldn’t keep me away from them. Why would you return to the race and possibly miss being with your child if she were to pass?

That’s the question i’d ask

I’ll bet you’re fun at parties.

It’s a case of fighting a war with what you have, not what you’d like to have. There is nobody who is the kind of conservative we’d all like, so we have to settle for the conservative we have.

Between Santorum and Newt, Newt is far more able to take on the Establishment and win. Santorum, nice guy he is, could not. Unfortunately, Santorum does draw enough support away from Newt that he could allow Romney to walk up the middle and take Florida.

Do we go for pure or do we go for the win, that’s the question. If we take the pure, we cannot win. If we go for the win, we stand a chance of getting a pure candidate who can win later.

Very sorry if I jumped on you too soon. I happen to know him and his family personally. Campaigned hard for him in the past.

I know that people in a certain lifestyle have gone way out of their way to make him and his family uncomfortable. And they do that with glee and pure hatred.

If you are sincere in heart, and I, an optimist, believe that you are, my apologies.

Because of the venomous stones that have been thrown in the past, against him AND his family, some of us are a little thin skinned.

Santorum is no way no how a pure Conservative.

Newt is more Conservative over Santourm. Nothing against Santorum, but Newt is more Conservative and is more in line with our Founding Father’s intent. Which is why Jim Robinson endorsed him above everyone else running.

From a policy POV, Newt is the more conservative candidate, but not his personal life, which is Freepers like CharlesWayneCT concern.

I was validating CWCT’s point, while pointing out that our greater need right now is to get back to a win and worry about perfection later. If we focus on perfection now, we’ll end up further behind than we already are.

The problem isn’t Santorum, it’s the voters. They aren’t supporting Newt, they are supporting Santorum.

Santorum doesn’t have them under lock and key. He doesn’t own them. He can’t give them away. If the VOTERS think the right thing to do is to support Newt, they will do so, and it won’t matter if Santorum drops out or not. Like with Perry — by the time he dropped out, there were no supporters to sway.

If you want to make a fight, why not call for Michelle Bachmann to endorse Newt Gingrich? She actually did drop out, so if Newt is the best thing for conservatives, wouldn’t the darling of the Tea Party endorse him?

Santorum needs to stay in the race so if Gingrich crashes and burns, we aren’t stuck with Romney.

I take your point now and it is an appreciable point. Yes, ultimately it will be the voters who decide who gets elected.

However, they both cannot continue to run and one of them will win. As long as both are in the race, they will siphon potential voters from each other and Romney will walk up the middle and win.

It won’t be a case of Newt burning out and Santorum taking his place. It will be a case that, if they keep siphoning votes from each other, they will both be holding a bag of nothing. You can’t split a 60 percent vote about even and expect to overcome the nobody choice, who happens to have 40 percent of the vote.

Try this: “You clearly cannot win the nomination. So do you think your continued Quiotian quest hurts Newt or Mitt more? Which would you hope it hurts more?”

“Will your first fiscal year exceed a 10 % BASELINE Spending reduction in total Federal spending?”

“Will all elected Federal politicians, including yourself, be given a 20% reduction in staff, AND pay in your first calendar year?”

“Which entire Federal entitlement program will be privatized in your second fiscal year?”

“At the end of your first 4 years, will total Federal spending be reduced to be below 2009 Federal Income?”

In states where there is proportional delegates, it would work well having two candidates getting votes.

It hurts in states where winner takes all.

It would have been GREAT in Virginia, where they do proportional unless a candidate gets 50%, then they take all the delegates. Unfortunately, neither Gingrich nor Santorum are on the ballot, and with only two candidates ONE of them is getting all the votes — and I can’t imagine Ron Paul getting 50% of the vote, no matter how many people play electoral games.

"some of us are a little thin-skinned"

I know what the above means, I support Newt, and my skin is very very thin... and bruised....

My point was, and I probably didn't say it well, as I was just checking in and had to leave quickly... IF this was one of those routine scheduled things, then I would feel okay still campaigning against him - in a resolute and respectful way.... but if it was one of those emergencies that can attend that condition, and can be life-threatening in a very real and terrorizing way - I would probably back off, till it was resolved, hopefully for the best. IOW, if it was scheduled and routine, he wouldn't be going crazy with grief and worry; if it wasn't, then the man gets all the slack in the world...

and you are right about people of a certain lifestyle attacking him, to your glee and pure hatred, I would add desecrating a person because of his religious beliefs.

Just so you know, I plan to help defeat romney, paul and santorum :) But I respect your positions and more importantly your feelings, especially when it is someone you are close to... that's gotta hurt bigtime. God bless us all.

Um, the two aren’t in conflict. We can win if Santorum backs ou nowt. His ideas are great, but he simply does not have the charisma or ground game to win. His Quiotian quest is functionally equivalent to surrendering to romney and then obamastard.

Thankfully, Bella is NOT on a ventilator which the excerpt below says is a GOOD SIGN. Keep praying.

“The reason Bella Santorum was admitted to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Saturday night is because she has pneumonia in both of her lungs, a campaign aide told ABC News.

The 3-year-old, who has the serious genetic disorder Trisomy 18, is not on a ventilator, though, which is a very good sign.”

Maybe so. Here is another way of looking at it: The GOP ALWAYS chooses the most liberal RINO to be their Nominee. Romney exudes rino-ossity! He is their guy. However, Santorum is Romney-Lite, so RINO-Rick pulls votes from RINO-Willy.

If so, should Santorum “Never Surrender?”

on the other hand, if Rasmussen’s latest is to be believed, if every one of Santorum’s votes went to Gingrich, it wouldn’t be enough. (44 romney, 28+12=40 Gingrich/Santorum)

Also, another recent poll showed that the 2nd choice for Santorum supporters was split evenly, 37% gingrich, 36% Romney).

BTW, in some states it would be better to have more candidates. For example, in Virginia if nobody gets 50%, the delegates are assigned proportionally. Unfortunately, neither Gingrich nor Santorum made our ballot, so with only two candidates, Romney is likely to meet the 50% (I can’t imagine Ron Paul will get more votes than Romney).

Santorum may have hurt Romney in South Carolina. The plurality winner in each district got the delegates, and in some districts if Romney had managed to get a few more of Santorum’s votes than Gingrich, Romney might have won some delegates.

If it turns out Gingrich has a ceiling of support that is under 50%, and if most of Gingrich’s support is really “not-romney”, and therefore would easily move to Santorum, it is possible that Newt dropping out would actually beat Romney, while Santorum dropping out might not.
