After Gingrich Newt scored a surprise blow-out victory in South Carolina last week, the former Massachusetts governor not only unleashed a political broadside of epic proportions.
"It not about winning here anymore," one Romney staffer told BuzzFeed. "It's about destroying Gingrich and it's working."
After two standout debate performances that put him up 9 points in recent polls, Romney is keeping the pressure on Gingrich, looking to score a blow-out victory of his own here.
To that end, Romney has rolled out a team of surrogates in the Sunshine State to take the fight to Gingrich in person: from Connie Mack (III) and Connie Mack (IV), to Rep. Jason Chaffetz and Sen. John McCain. Romney has also aired a controversial ad featuring Tom Brokaw announcing that Gingrich had been sanctioned by the House.
Today both Macks took the stage before Romney to attack Gingrich's character, proclaiming that he has a checkered past with ethics and honesty."
Romney also launched into his longest attack directed squarely at Gingrich, devoting almost four minutes of his 18 minute stump speech attacking the former Speaker of the House.
"Mr. Speaker, your trouble in Florida is not because the audience is too quiet or too loud or because you have opponents that are tough," Romney said, comparing Gingrich's complaints about debate audiences to Goldilocks. Then, with a broad smile on his face, he listed the reasons why Florida voters are now moving away from Gingrich's campaign.
"Your problem in Florida is that you worked for Freddie Mac at a time when Freddie Mac was not doing the right thing for the American people," he added.
Shortly after Romney's remarks, his campaign emailed "Earth to Newt: Tell The Truth" detailing a long list of alleged lies while mocking his ambitious space agenda.

"It not about winning here anymore," one Romney staffer told BuzzFeed. "It's about destroying Gingrich and it's working."I get that part. I get the part about Willard destroying conservatives. But I will remember this. I will never, ever support, or vote for, Romney. I would prefer Obama.
That's an understatement.
She thinks she's Dorothy and that Mittens is the Wizard of Oz.
We will get past Fla if we fight. Mark Levin has a great article on the LACK of Character re: Romney.

What a Prick.
I am waiting for the GOP to call me for a contribution. By the time I get through with them they will NEVER want to call me again.
In addition, I am changing my affiliation from republican to independent.
FUGOP.
Newt has no chance. Mitt has all the money in world to keep doing this. He destroy Newt next in NV and MI. Newt doesn’t have the money or the backing to counter it. By Super Tuesday Newt will be long gone and Romney will the man the Republicans have chosen to be defeated by Barack 0bama.
Most Republican voters are smarter than Democrat voters.
If Mitt wins Florida, it will be the snowbirds who put him over the top. He may very well succeed in discrediting Newt Gingrich and denying him the nomination, but that may not be enough to make him the nominee, either.
Yes, Mitt is a nasty piece of work.
This guy too!!
I am waiting for the GOP to call me for a contribution. By the time I get through with them they will NEVER want to call me again.I am so right there with you.
“After Tuesday, their 50 delegates, Marco Rubio, and the dunce Pam Bondi, will no longer have an effect on the GOP Primary in 2012. Goodbye Florida, your votes were good for 4% of of the neccessary delegates.”
Nor will Scott & Mack, and losing 50 delegates to move to a January primary date will really look like a dumb move for Florida when Gingrich stays in the race even if he loses Tuesday, and starts racking up delegates in more conservative states.
If only the 2010 elections had amounted to a hill of beans in 2011, we conservatives might not be so concerned about nominating a Massachusetts moderate. But, when a “Conservative” House of Reps. can’t do jack squat, what makes us thinks this MA Moderate will do anything to turn around the ship?
“But I will remember this. I will never, ever support, or vote for, Romney. I would prefer Obama.”
Although Romney and Obama share the same positions, sadly I think Obama is more honest, genuine, and has more integrity.
I think I just threw up a little when typing that.
Romney is using his huge personal fortune not just to win, but to destroy. He's just as evil as Obama, IMHO. His policies would be exactly the same. And I no more want to be a Mormon than I want to be a Muslim.
As for Rubio and Bondi, I'm sorry to say, but they're toast. We worked hard for them. But no Tea Partier would ever support or even vote for them again. Too bad, guys.
Ah, there’s a reservoir tip on the condom. Squeeze Barry’s head to pop the zit.
Romney had no choice, he either shot his load here or let the nomination slip away.
Florida is FAR more important to Romney than it is to Gingrich.
I arrived at that shortly before things got really nasty. The reasoning went like this: In a Romney vs Obama contest, if the conservatives don't vote for Romney, he'll lose by about 20 points; if they hold nose and vote for Romney he'll lose by about 10 points.
Romney deserves to lose by 20. Teach the party a lesson and don't vote for Romney.
