Rasmussen in FL: Romney 44, Gingrich 28
HotAir ^ | 1/29/2012 | ED MORRISSEY

Five weeks ago, this might have been a game changer. Is this a case of too little, too late?

Atlanta businessman and former presidential candidate Herman Cain endorsed Newt Gingrich Saturday night at a West Palm Beach Country Republican gathering after two months of wavering on whether he would offer his support to a fellow candidate.

The endorsement comes just three days before the crucial Florida primary, by far the largest state to vote so far in the GOP sweepstakes, and could help Gingrich energize tea party support. Gingrich campaign has flagged since his upstart, double-digit victory over front-runner Mitt Romney in the South Carolina primary a week ago.

“I had it in my heart and mind a long time ago” to endorse Gingrich, Cain said in a surprise appearance at the dinner. “Speaker Gingrich is a patriot, Speaker Gingrich is not afraid of bold ideas, and I also know that Speaker Gingrich is … going through this sausage grinder. I know what this sausage grinder is all about. I know that he’s going through this sausage grinder because he cares about the future of the United States of America.”

[It is a matter of character or does that count any more? ]

Well get ready to start praying to Joseph Smith, because that is the implication of a vote for Romney.

Give me a break. Any criticism of Gingrch means you support Romney? I am tired of this move to stampede everyone else out of the race so we have only Romney and Gingrich.

Gingrich won SC and didn't finish in the top three in Iowa and NH. Ron Paul finished 3rd in Iowa and second in NH. Santorum finished first in Iowa and third in SC. Why should either Santorum or Paul get out of the race and cede to Romney and Gingrich. I hope the race continues into more states. The longer it continues the better in much the same way the Obama-Clinton primaries helped set up the Dems for the general election in 2008. I hope the race is close in FL and all four candidates continue to battle it out for the soul of the party.

I will vote for the GOP nominee regardless of who it is. Will you?

Changes in welfare reform since Newt left office are not his responsibility and don’t diminish his singular accomplishments.

Huge bump for your post.

Romneycare is the first law ever passed in the U.S that contains a mandate.

THAT is who Mitt Romney is and he is oh so proud of it.

Amen it’s time to cut the GOP cords, before they hang us.

This is NOT what our Founding Fathers envisioned. We have slowly drifted from God, Family and love of a FREE REPUBLIC.

The fix is in by the Elite in the GOP. The sooner we realize this the sooner we will be on the right track and free ourselves from the Slavery of Socialism/Communism.

Conservatives never left the Republican party. The Republican party has left them. Free Republic should turn to the Tea Party. Right now I understand they are not well established. The current tactic can be to continue to elect conservatives only and no longer loyalty to the Republican party. Like I said we did not leave them, they left us. A vote for the Republican party today is a vote for Democrat lite.

I thought I made it clear that I supported Santorum over the other three. I will vote for any of them over Obama. Our national survival is at stake. As I stated, another term for Obama will finish this country off. He will complete our transformation into a socialist hellhole that will be Balkanized along class, race, and ethnicity lines. Obamacare will be the instrument to achieve it.

“Give me a break. Any criticism of Gingrch means you support Romney?”

Incredibly weak straw man.

“I will vote for the GOP nominee regardless of who it is. Will you? “

Not NO. But Hell No.

I will not vote for Mitt Romney....will he be better than Obama? Only short term.

Romney will destroy conservatism long term.

If he wins and Gingrich and Palin tell me to endorse Mittens.

F NO.

I don’t care if Jim supports Romney, I will not. The GOP E has destroyed every conservative in this race and they are stuffing Romney down our throats.

The GOP needs to be replaced by a new 2nd Party.

I will not trade one Socialist for another. Sorry NO SALE!

One more thing. Rest assured it will be THE REPUBLICANS FAULT for giving us another Socialist as a choice on why they lose the election.

If Mitt gets the nomination, then Obama will win thanks to the Republican elite stabbing conservatives in the back. The Republican party will be blamed for the loss and NOT Conservatives.

There are over 50 "third parties".

“the rapid last minute swing towards Gingrich before South Carolina”

Those rapid last minute swings were CMA polls by the pollsters. Newt was always ahead in SC. The pollsters reported Mitt ahead in an attempt to depress conservative turnout. I was on the ground here in SC. I wrote that Gingrich would hit 40% in SC. He did. Look at my posting history.

It’s about time that people realize that pollsters lie. ALL THE TIME. Pollsters are another arm of the democrat lie machine. We go through this garbage every election cycle.

The purpose of left wing, liberal polling is to depress conservative turnout. Period. Exclamation point. Look what’s going on in this thread right now. People are running around in circles, flapping their arms and panicking.

The numbers swing wildly at the end so these liberal polling liars can secure some modicum of credibility.

Amen Jim! Just to be clear neither mrR or I support Romney. No Romney ever. And frankly I am sick of concern trolls stating that Romney is inevitable.

Romney is NOT inevitable!

Go Newt!

Success has many fathers and defeat is an orphan. Newt played a major role, but there were many others who contributed in both the House and the Senate to achieve it. And after two tries, Clinton finally signed it, but he got some further concessions in the legislation.

What we confront now is much larger than welfare reform. We are witnessing the collapse of the welfare state and if we don't change it quickly, it will take the entire country down with it. It has to be dismantled, not tweaked with to make it run better free of waste and abuse. That is my greatest fear with a technocrat like Romney who doesn't have a core view on the welfare state. The programs need to be jettisoned, not means tested.

You're naive enough to believe momentum psychology have no effect on voters. You are wrong.

A big FL win essentially seals the deal for Romney. He'll sweep through Feb in Mormon-heavy Nevada and his home state of Michigan.

A FL Romney loss could've kept things alive at least until March 6th's Super Tuesday.

It's not about the delegate count. Perception is reality here.

I said the same thing in 2008 that I would not vote for McCain--someone I despise. I followed his primary campaign for four days each in FL and SC demonstrating against him driving over 4,000 miles standing in the rain holding up signs and being manhandled by goons who tried to keep me out of his rallies.

Yet, faced with the prospect of Obama, I got involved as I usually do supporting the Rep nominee making telephone calls to get out the vote and acting as a poll watcher. I will crawl over broken glass to vote against Obama. As someone who spent 36 years in the service of this country, including being shot at, I will not be a party to the election of Obama in 2012. Too much is at stake. The Stupid Party is better than the Evil Party.

What indicates to you that I omitted momentum psychology from my analysis? Just that you think I did? I did not.

I think that in spite of such momentum that Gingrich is in it. Even with his big loss Tuesday. He’s pissed and won’t bow out... at least that’s what I think.

Thank you for your service.

The problem is that Romney is nothing but a white Obama with an R by his name. You are voting for the thing you do not want with Romney. So there is really no choice.
