"Given all the attention to the ethics matter, it's worth asking what actually happened back in 1995, 1996, and 1997. The Gingrich case was extraordinarily complex, intensely partisan, and driven in no small way by a personal vendetta on the part of one of Gingrich's former political opponents. It received saturation coverage in the press; a database search of major media outlets revealed more than 10,000 references to Gingrich's ethics problems during the six months leading to his reprimand. It ended with a special counsel hired by the House Ethics Committee holding Gingrich to an astonishingly strict standard of behavior, after which Gingrich in essence pled guilty to two minor offenses. Afterwards, the case was referred to the Internal Revenue Service, which conducted an exhaustive investigation into the matter. And then, after it was all over and Gingrich was out of office, the IRS concluded that Gingrich did nothing wrong. After all the struggle, Gingrich was exonerated...."

Ann is just playing the odds.
If she supported Newt, and he were to lose out to Mitt, and then go down in the General, she would be frozen out by the both the Georgetown cocktail party set (Establishment Republicans) and the NYC social set — both of which have deemed Mitt the “acceptable” Republican candidate.
On the other hand, if Mitt gets the nomination and loses the geneal, she’s safe in both because she acted to maintain the status quo.
Of course, if Mitt were to both get the nomination and win in November, she’d be in Heaven. The Lincoln bedroom would be her private crash pad. Every hostess in town would be begging for her dainty feet. That is her greatest hope.
Of courses, should it come to pass that Newt defeats both Mitt and Bammy, she’s still safely part of the East Coast “in” crowd, and figures if she throws enough red meat at the Tea Party types in flyover country, they’ll forget about her dalliance with Mittens, buy her books, put her back on her pedestal and keep making her rich.
Sad to say, she’s probably right.
Ping for inclusion in Gingrich Apologetics Reference Library.
Correct.
The coup started in Congressman Lindsay Graham's office. That should tell you a lot right there.
Graham spoke about it recently, and he said he was surrpised that Newt isn't holding a grudge. I've since watched Graham and he's been very careful to speak pretty good about Newt.
When Santorum spoke about it the other night in a debate, he was lying, because he was already in the Senate in '95. He's exaggerating his congressional (House) importance, but what's new?
I recall reading a little of that thread, but I stay put on the FReepathon thread for the better part. I miss a lot of my pings, because we post huge graphics and I post the scoreboard etc.
And Romney, a warmed over socialist, lying about it in an attempt to make hey of it. This is just what we need for a president, some lying S.O.B. Doing and saying what ever he can just to get the nomination. We have enough of those in Washington already and sure don’t need another.
I must bump this one for any who might have overlooked.
BTTT
I’m writing it now. Not happy about it either.
I was working on another piece but I want to put and end these lies or hearsay that are divorced from reality.
I wrote on this a few days ago but I need to have one that is always at the ready for anyone to use.
It’ll be so simple a Caveman could understand it.
I’ll post it tomorrow.
Nope.
I will etch her memory into everyone’s mind when this all over.
Lot’s of reminders and treating us like “the people” isn’t going away for me.
Won’t for me either, but there it is...
I just shake my head and sigh because I have had my doubts about Ann for the longest time. She’s always been too enamored with her celebrity status for my taste. You can see it in her columns and in her books.
I can just imagine her chortling with glee when she comes up with some outrageous throwaway line that she just knows is going to make heads explode — and incidentally sell another 10,000 books.
What happened to Newt was replayed with Sarah Palin. Both were the victims of a political attack based upon trumped up charges that drove them out of office. It is good that Newt got this issue raised by Willard. If Newt plays it right he can use it to club the stuffing out of this deceiver and sharpen it to a fine point to skewer Zer0 if he tries to use it against him.
Here is some homework that will not require an ordained pastor to explain to any Christian worth their salt to understand the high minded moderate GOP establishment LIES when saying Gingrich is/was challenged ethically.
She won’t sell nuthin.
I’ll remind everyone just what rubes she thought they were.
Life’s tough and yah takes yah lickins.....
Ping for later.

Actually, he was Cooterized (something I didn’t know previously).
bttt
Excellent.
One might conclude that after being put through that wringer (as detailed in this article) Newt Gingrich would be extremely careful about his interactions re lobbying.
