On Saturday, tens of thousands of pro-life activists lined the streets in front of San Franciscos City Hall and then filled the citys main thoroughfare, walking about two miles down Market Street to the Embarcadero.
Banging drums, playing guitars and chanting We are pro-life, the enthusiastic throngs filled Market Street and stopped all traffic for more than a mile. Organizers estimated more than 40,000 attended the Walk for Life West Coast.
We are here to say life is the choice and women are hurt by abortion, said Dolores Meehan, co-chair of the Walk for Life West Coast, which is held on the Saturday closest to the anniversary of the Supreme Courts 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling legalizing abortion.
Walk co-chair Eva Muntean urged participants to sign petitions to put a parental notification of a minors intent to procure an abortion on the California ballot and urged support for a state initiative for a personhood amendment.
At the rally, Dr. Vansen Wong, an OBGYN, told his story of performing abortions to pay off his medical bills, saying he ended hundreds of lives over the course of seven years working at an evening abortion clinic for his employer.
Abortion is barbaric, abortion is intolerable, said Dr. Wong, who now works with a pro-life medical clinic where pregnant women receive ultrasounds. Abortion has no place in any civilized society.
A former Miss West Virginia, Jacquie Stalnaker told of being forced at gunpoint to go to an abortion clinic by her boyfriend and of the toll it took for 24 years. Stalnaker, who is now a regional representative for Silent No More Campaign, an organization of women who have had abortions, urged the crowd to get pro-choice friends to visit the groups website to hear the stories of women who have had abortions.
Other speakers included Lori Hoye, an African American activist whose mother became pregnant at 15 and whose sister had an abortion, and the Baptist preacher Rev. Clenard Childress who has spoken at seven of the eight Walks.
You are the salt of the earth, Childress told the Walk for Life crowd. This is more than a pro-life movement. This is a holy spirit movement because the spirit addresses evil.
40,000 pro-lifers in San Fran-sicko?
Not buying it. Maybe they were bussed in. I can only imagine the d-bags, insults, human waste, and other personal attacks these brave people had to endure from the freaks that inhabit that city.
I’m sure we’ll see coverage of this from all the major media outlets...
Buy it. CounterCounterCulture and I were there!
Maybe they were bussed in.
You're right that the overwhelming majority came from out of town, but there are pro-life SFers as well.
I can only imagine the d-bags, insults, human waste, and other personal attacks these brave people had to endure from the freaks that inhabit that city.
Every year it gets less and less. This year there was hardly any counter-protest at all. HOWEVER, the city government thought it a wise use of their deficit spending to hang fancy pro-abortion slogan banners from the light posts along our route this year!
Nah, the MSM is too busy covering 100 dirty hippies occupying a portapotty.
Thanks for your courage and bravery to enter America’s version of Sodom to stand up for the unborn.
May God Bless you for opposing His many enemies in such a place as San Francisco.
Well even the city of SF is cracking down on its hippie factor, the police last night were dressed like NY Giants fans in order to arrest anyone who would beat up on a visiting Giants fan. That shows that even a very liberal city such as SF is waking up to reality.
God Bless your efforts in SF!
So my brother in Dallas and a friend in Austin both reported seeing Department of Homeland Security vehicles at their marches. Did you?
Bussed in from where? Somewhere else in northern California? The whole place is liberal!
How was it?
It's sad to see supposed conservatives buy into liberal concepts like "woman as victims" in every case.
Abortion hurts men equally with woman.
While the article shows the corner-case of a woman being forced at gunpoint to have an abortion, that's rare. What's not rare is that millions of fathers have had their babies killed against their wishes and they had no say in it.
In the vast majority of cases it is the woman who has decided to kill their baby. Under our current system men have no say, it is the "woman's choice".
That same thinking is evident in this womans comments, despite her being right abortion, she is still a liberal feminist in her core outlooks.
We came, we occupied, we made our voices heard.
Could any one of them return a punt without fumbling it?
Oh not at all! The inland valleys are very conservative socially! Our diocese alone has about a dozen busses charter for the event.
Not 100%
Even in the worst of times, and places, there are some left:
1 Kings 19
14 And he [Elijah] said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: because the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.
15 And the LORD said unto him, ...
18 Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.
And righteous Lot lived in Sodom.
I'll grant you 100% of the Congress critters from this area, and 100% of the TV and Newsprint media is comprised of Godless leftists, but there are always a few believers sprinkled about - even in the worst of places.
Life is a right for the pre-born baby scheduled to be killed in an abortion clinic, not merely a preferable "choice"
and women are hurt by abortion
BABIES are hurt by abortion.
Good points.
