GREENVILLE, S.C. Newt Gingrich was confronted by a black man outside Tommy's Country Ham House, who questioned him on his comments on having poor children work as janitors.
The man said what Gingrich was asking for amounted to a "new form of slavery" and would force young African Americans to drop out of school.

No it wouldn't. To the Left, being Republican means you are not truly black.
I saw him take on Robert Reisch one on one and it was no contest. Newt made him look like a silly sophomore while being respectful the whole time.
Tawana Brawley.
When I was in school friends of mine worked as janitors in our school. It didn’t hurt them at all. In fact, I’m sure both they and their subsequent employers benefited from valuable lessons they learned there.
Work is a good thing. When black leaders’ actions signal anything else, they harm those who most need their help.
“Selecting Allen West as V.P. would do a lot to shut up Sharpton. Also garner military and some black support.”
No! It would bring down the Ire of the race baiting groups on Congressman West.”
We must be cognizant of how Liberals roll.
Creating an impression is what Sharpton'll seek to do, the last thing on his mind is an honest debate.
Would prefer Newt select Condi Rice for VP. Although she is a Bush fan..she is highly regarded by most conservatives and would help Newt win the Bush fans over to his campaign.
It could be very productive...of all of the candidates, Newt is the most capable of going into the Lion’s Den, and articulating the case for conservative values.
I suppose if Newt framed it differently.... The jobs would be “apprentice janitor” jobs which would give the kids a leg up when applying for the commie unions $100K janitor jobs after high school graduation.
I think Gingrich was saying work and the work ethic needed to be shown and offered to poor folks, especially in areas where almost everyone is on the government dole.
Work is when you do a service or make something for money at the request of an employer who hires you and you agree to the job and pay.
Slavery is when one is stolen and kept from gaining freedom and doing services however oppressive under the threat of force or harm for the master. Slaves get no pay and are only fed and housed at the master’s pleasure. The slave didn’t agree, was stolen and cannot regain freedom, unless he dies or escapes.
To call a job offer slavery demeans the terrible oppression of past and present slavery (largely in Muslim lands).
“The man said what Gingrich was asking for amounted to a “new form of slavery” and would force young African Americans to drop out of school”
This is wrong on so many levels. First, a lot of us white, middle class folks have told our kids(as young as 11) that they needed to work to afford their “wants” in life such as game systems, phones, etc. And guess what those kids did? They got themselves a job. And one of the house rules for being allowed to work was to keep the grades up. Is this man admitting that poor kids are not as smart as middle class kids?
Robmneybot begone.
Romneybot begone.
We can use every black vote we can get--we may not get a lot at any one time but we won't get any at all by stiffing the chance to talk to them.
Gingrich already did a tour of the country with Al Sharpton promoting education reform. It had the members of FR in an uproar and they said they'd never vote for the guy...how quickly people forget.
You really stepped in it this time. You didn’t just do a drive by comment based on a headline - you did a drive by POST based on a headline you thought would hurt Newt.
Problem is, if you read the article, Newt handled it masterfully and did not give an inch on philosophy and kept it calm and level headed from a planted protester who clearly did not want it calm or level headed.
A drive by posting. New low.
Nothing can be gained from getting in the much to wrestle with a pig. NOTHING!
Nah, we need him around. See post 38 for my theory on that....
