What is it about this primary season that causes Republicans to go around the bend? The current beneficiary of the anyone but Romney mania is Newt Gingrich, who may actually win the South Carolina primary tomorrow. I find that astonishing. Gingrich has been mostly out of the public view since he retired from Congress 13 years ago. The most surprising feature of this endlessly surprising political year is that, at age 68, Gingrich has made a comeback.
It is hard to make clear-cut statements about the mercurial and often contradictory Gingrich, but one thing we can say with absolute certainty: he will never be President of the United States. Put aside the fact that he lasted only four years as Speaker of the House before resigning in disgrace, leaving Congress with an approval rating around 15%. Forget that he was the father of the earmark. Never mind his notorious lack of self-control and his attacks on free enterprise. Those are all worthy topics for another day, but for the moment lets just focus on the allegations by Newts second ex-wife that hit the press this week. Apart from all the other good reasons why Gingrich will never be President, Marianne Gingrichs sensational allegations snuffed out any possible hope that Newt can beat Barack Obama in 2012.

FR is supposed to be the bastion of conservative values, small government, religous piety, morality, etc.
The vitriol spewed towards a Mormon like Romney who from all accounts has led a moral life, been married to the same woman, and raised a large family is astounding. It is especially troubling because the same people on here attacking Romney all seem to be giving the Newtster a complete past on his past transgressions.
Newt seems to me a cross between Jimmy Swaggert and Barack Obama. Like Swaggert, Newt admits his sin and begs forgiveness. Like Obama, he then attacks anyone, especially in the media who brings up this uncomfortable subject.
Newt is the classic opportunist, who will say anything in prusuit of his objective. He is a smart guy, but too smart by half, because he now has a long record on which to be judged.
Anyone who is to beat obama will need to beat him on the issues. That is the economy, smaller gov't, less regulation, lower taxes, real energy program with drill baby drill.
If Newt somehow gets the nomination, Obama will be happy because the issue will be NEWT. His reprimand and House ethics investigative papers are sure to be leaked. His ex wife Marianne will be all over the networks. The issue will not be Obama's failures, but Newts. That is just the way it works folks, the MSM is the enemy and they will do Obama's bidding.
I have made no secret of my wish for a brokered convention. I was talking about it long before Rush and Scarborough brought it up. It is the only hope to restore sanity to the Republican Party. Newt has no chance, and like Cain before him, Newt has enough baggage to fill a 747, and is nominated, his campaign will crash and burn like none we have witnessed in modern times.

Moral people don’t make tax payer subsidized $50 abortions possible.
IBTZ!

I love the lamentations of the Mittbotts in the morning. It smells like ... ozone.
“Delusional...NewtBots like Jim Jones subjects on KoolAid,” says a RomneyBot like Bob Dole on LSD.
How do you solve a problem like a Mittwit?
You ZOT him!
We are not electing a pope. Does Romneycare means anything to you after the Tea Party movement?
LOL, and they have only just begun. Wait till tonight, the lamentations will be louder than rolling thunder.
Thou doth protest too much.
Barack Obama has been married to one woman as well. Using your logic, we should just re-elect him.
Moron.
Mitt is so principled that he doesn't want to release his taxes until after he has the nomination in hand. In other words, there is something so damaging in his taxes that he risks the nomination by releasing them now. He is so driven to win the nomination that he would do such a thing that could saddle us with a losing candidate. And yet you idiot Mittbotts think HE is the guy to take on Obama?
Once again, MORON.

If you get zotted, I will be very, very worried for our fine community. I’ve seen a couple other posters get zotted just for posting anti-Newt sentiment.
*It’s a primary folks.*
Granted it’s probably one of the most important primaries I’ve ever witnessed, but people are SUPPOSED to disagree about who will best carry the conservative torch.
That being said, I vote in SC today. I am thinking Newt, but I don’t go to the polls enthusiastically.
Gingrich > Romney
Romneybot? JimRob has an App for that!
Man up!!! You and John Boner should go have a good cry together.
Am I IBTZ for the first time?
So you want another four years of Obummer?
Once the Republican Presidential candidate has been decided, Obama will not let the conversation be on the issues as he cannot stand up to the scrutiny of those issues. The Republican's need a strong candidate who can stand up and control the conversation and not back down.
