An ex-wife of Newt Gingrich told ABC Newss Nightline that the Republican presidential candidate wanted an open marriage.
In a published clip of Brian Rosss interview with Marianne Gingrich, which will air tonight, Marianne Gingrich said her husband wanted her to accept the fact that he had a mistress. He was asking to have an open marriage and I refused, she said.
Marianne Gingrich said Newt Gingrich admitted to his six-year affair with Callista, a congressional aide who is now married to the candidate. Newt Gingrich allegedly said Callista doesnt care what I do.
Asked for her response, Marianne Gingrich said she responded, No, that is not a marriage.
According to ABC News, Marianne Gingrich will say her husband does not have the moral character to be president. She will express her shock at learning that her husband conducted his affair with Callista in my bedroom in our apartment in Washington.

Remember that Gingrich is not on the ballot in the Virginia or Missouri primaries.
He is on the ballot in the Missouri caucuses several weeks later, but by that time the nominee may well have been decided.
My point was the woman that is trying to make sure Newt is not going to win is she had as much responsibility in the first divorce as Newt did..She knew very well he was married and his wife had cancer but kept up with the affair..and then married him..I hope she chokes on the money the media and Dem's are giving her..
For the millionth time, Newt’s first Wife did not have Cancer, 9/11 wasn’t an inside job and Oswald acted alone when he killed Kennedy.
Mom was first diagnosed with cancer in the spring of 1978. She remembers going into her closet, crying and praying that she would live long enough for their children (my sister and me) to graduate high school.
Her prayers were answered: She’s been given 33 more years and shows no sign of slowing down.

I think Newt is toast - it will just take a while for it to sink in like it did with Herman Cain. If Newt does get the nomination we can look forward to:
#1: Getting very little of the once jilted women vote (which is a pretty big chunk of women in general)
#2: Seeing the nominee abandoned by the value voter leaders OR (and I argue worse) seeing them try to spin this behavior
#3: See BHO being able to credibly claim the moral high ground for family issues (it wont be gentle like Paul, Romney, and Santorum were last night)
#4: When it’s all done, the moderate wing of the party will be able to say “You got the conservative candidate and we lost in a landslide”
I know I should bow down and hail Newt as the “master debater” that he is but you can’t debate your way out of slimy. Also, if Newt was a master debater would not have called his ex a liar and used the “regret” question to apologize for any and all pain he might have caused his ex’s. Instead, he stood proud as the smartest man in the room and I’m quite sure we’ll be hearing from his ex and her side of the family friends in the coming days and weeks.
Those three are gentleman. Their PAC’s may not be focused on being gentile. BHO and Axelrod certainly wont be.
I think all of the Value Voter leaders need to take a deep breath and consider who they’ll be expected to stump for and how it’s going to impact their credibility.
If Romney, Paul, and/or Santorum goes for the throat on this - I hope that they do it soon. I think it will be devastating and done either now or in the fall. Paul seems the most likely candidate to give it a shot.
I understand - but I do not agree that it’s the equivalent. I believe once separated/divorcing - it’s still bad but not nearly as bad as someone who is married and who’s spouse has NO idea of what’s going on. Put down the marriage considerations for a moment and just consider the health implications. Once separated you’re unlikely to be sexually active with the person (and if you are, you were warned) - but the 2nd wife was potentially exposed to all Newt’s partners (and their partners (and their partners (...)) without her knowledge.
Both are bad but one is much worse.
I watched Marianne’s interview. I came away with a lot of sympathy for Newt.
He's right.
Nominating Newt Gingrich puts evangelical Christians in a position where we have to defend a man whose conduct is as bad if not worse than that of Bill Clinton, and explain to our members why we should vote for an admitted serial adulterer who is accused of wanting an “open marriage” when the Democrat appears to have a stable family life.
It also causes serious problems for conservative Roman Catholics who object to loose standards in the church for annulments and lack of church discipline in other ways, and then have to defend toleration by the church of what appears to be grossly immoral conduct by Newt Gingrich. I realize that the confessional involves strict secrecy in the Roman Catholic Church, but that's not going to help conservative Catholics who object to latitudinarian priests and bishops while defending Gingrich. The “cognitive dissonance” will be very hard to explain to average parishioners, let alone those outside who are always ready to jump on the church a bunch of hypocrites.
But we have an even worse problem in the conservative movement, no matter whether Gingrich wins or loses.
Frankly, I can't imagine where the Freepers are coming from who are saying this won't make a lot of difference to voters and are claiming that an open marriage is what every man wants. This website is not the Daily Kos or Huffington Post. I expect that kind of stuff on liberal blogs. But has the conservative movement **ALREADY** gotten as bad as conservative parties in Europe where sex scandals aren't even scandalous anymore unless it's the Italian prime minister accused of bedding underage girls?
If the people saying those things on Free Republic are real conservatives — and I believe many of them are real conservatives, not liberal fakes and agitators — we have a big problem in our own conservative ranks.
We're talking basic fundamental morality here, folks, not whether someone has made a personal commitment to Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Lots of non-Christians and lots of nominal Christians believe in marriage and moral values, or at least oppose adultery.
This should be a major concern not just to “social conservatives” or “values voters” but to **EVERYONE** who calls themselves a conservative of any sort.
Herman Cain had the good grace to get out when confronted with accusations he said were bogus. We don't know what happened in private between him and his wife, but I think Cain did the right thing — if he had won the Republican nomination without proving that the accusers were liars, it would have caused major damage to the Republican Party.
I think we need to think very hard about what happens if Gingrich wins the nomination. The consequences of that are not going to be pretty.
He’s the best one still standing.
I think Callista is the type of woman he needed all along and I don’t think she’ll put up with any diddling.
She looks like a strong woman (her hair does not dare move) and, although she’s not very warm and sweet looking, I think she’s keep her by in line.
LOL. Just looking at her makes me sympathetic for Newt.
But we do not have to compromise our moral standards to support Newt.
We are supporting him because he’s the best candidate left and has said he’s repented and been forgiven.
That’s between him and God.
The fact is that Santorum is not likeable and cannot win. Ron Paul is a joke who is getting his support from the free drug young crowd and the isolationists, which would be nice if there were no such things as airplanes.
Mitt sometimes seems okay, but we know he’s not full bore conservative and he seems casual and uninvolved. I mean he wants to be president but ...
We didn’t start out with a good field, except for Perry, and I won’t bore you with all the reasons we should have supported Perry as it’s too late now.
Palin didn’t run. Cain was a fluke candidate, never had much in the way of qualifications except he was Mr. Perfect Family man and then he wasn’t.
Whatever made Santorum think he should be president. Maybe he should try for senator.
Newt led a conservative movement once, let’s hope he can do it again.
Very well said.
I'm a little upset about Perry dropping out but I'm guessing he didn't have much choice.
But ... the grassy knoll....
[ Virginia! and on to Missouri!]
heh!!......
Color me confused...
