Newt Gingrich asked for ‘open marriage,’ former wife says
Boston Globe ^ | 1/19/12 | Shira Schoenberg

An ex-wife of Newt Gingrich told ABC News’s “Nightline” that the Republican presidential candidate wanted an “open marriage.”

In a published clip of Brian Ross’s interview with Marianne Gingrich, which will air tonight, Marianne Gingrich said her husband wanted her to accept the fact that he had a mistress. “He was asking to have an open marriage and I refused,” she said.

Marianne Gingrich said Newt Gingrich admitted to his six-year affair with Callista, a congressional aide who is now married to the candidate. Newt Gingrich allegedly said Callista “doesn’t care what I do.”

Asked for her response, Marianne Gingrich said she responded, “No, that is not a marriage.”

According to ABC News, Marianne Gingrich will say her husband does not have the moral character to be president. She will express her shock at learning that her husband conducted his affair with Callista “in my bedroom in our apartment in Washington.”

I remember when FR started and everyone was talking about character when it came to Bill Clinton, etc... all of that is forgotten now...bizarre and majorly hypocritical - JUST LIKE NEWT.”

That's where the GOP has us today, which is why the GOP needs to go, and from it's ashes a new party emerges.

And wasn’t it the GOP that fined Gingrich for ethics violations? Or was that some kind of witch hunt?

Wasn’t it Newt Gingrich who railed Fannie and Freddie on one hand but saw no problem by personally pocketing millions of dollars from them?

Would a principled true conservative be in either situation?

How about supporting the individual mandate for 20 years? It cracks me up how people rail Romney for his commie health care but give Newt a pass?

How about sitting on the couch with Pelosi and support cap & trade?

You can list things ALL day long about Gingrich that absolutely prove he has no principles, no morals and no ethics.

Here is something to think about...guess what our founders were right, character, morals, ethics and principles actually matter...

SO WHY ON GOD’s BEAUTIFUL GREEN EARTH WOULD WE GET ALIGNED BEHIND SOMEONE WHO HAS NONE?

Weird, when you look at that list, you get the impression there’s some kind of avalanche of skeletons tumbling out of the closet. When it’s really just one crazy old lady consumed in bitterness.

Any REAL conservative can wipe the floor with Obama. Santorum can stand on principle alone and beat obama.

I care because I try to be consistent in my values.

Even if it means setting the conservative movement back decades? Wonderful.

I do believe Santorum is the best of the lot, but try as I might, I just don't see it happening.

" A lot of FReepers seem to be falling for “who they think” Newt is...

BINGO !

That's when Free Republic started when the Bill Clinton and Monica scandal was happening... and everyone was yelling about character then, and your right, it's been totally forgotten now, because winning is more important now...

Forget that Bill Clinton and John Edwards are liberal Democrats for a moment, do Bill Clinton and John Edwards deserve the same compassion and forgiveness that is being given to Newt for his past affairs ? or is this some kind of selective pardon and forgiveness ?
yes, it's bizarre and hypocritical... So Newt supporters ? does Bill Clinton and John Edwards deserve the same forgiveness that your giving to Newt's past sins ?

Rick Santorum can beat Romney and Obama and he is the closest thing we have to a real conservative now.

To answer the last question, the only answer to that is Santorum. The man you can most trust to defend conservative values and conservatism. And he lives the life. No dirty personal laundry!!!

Now I am not from America...

You just don't act like it, since you're apparently unfamiliar with the fundamental principle of "innocent until proven guilty."

But then again, it's pretty apparent that your major malfunction with Newt is that he's not your candidate, so it's not like any sense can ever be talked into you.

I do find it amusing, however, that you condemn Newt as a RINO, while stumping for big government "conservative" Santorum, the guy who basically fornicated us all when he helped to return Arlen Specter to the Senate over and against a real conservative like Pat Toomey, back in 2004.

“Character matters.”

On two levels. First, his serial screwing around is icky and disgusting.

The second is more dangerous. If he engages in behavior that an enemy of the state can use to blackmail him, then it’s possible he could make decisions that would make the nation vulnerable.

Santorum couldn't beat Bozo the Clown in a dunking contest. And as far as him being “conservative”, his embarrassing senate record blows your theory all to hell.

“The institution of the family is the key issue facing this great nation. It is the foundation, the bedrock, upon which every dimension of Western Civilization rests." -- James Dobson

Yeah, but for Dobson, it's a lot easier to appeal to weaker Christians' lust for self-righteous indignation by houding flawed politicians for their marriage-divorce record, than to PUT HIS MONEY WHERE HIS MOUTH IS and do the real work, fight on the real front lines where this battle is being waged -- family law courts, no-fault divorce, and a legal system that has for the past 50 years done more to destroy the American family, turned more fathers into slaves and mothers into masters, than any or every politician with a history of marital infedility could ever do.

I think Dobson loves to talk the talk, but he fails to walk the walk. If he really wanted to help save the family in this country, he'd be martialling all his considerable forces to focus on disabling the horrific "family law" system in the U.S., which as it is, rewards divorce, especially mothers in divorce, and hugely frustrates and obstructs any success in the non-custodial parent (usually the father) maintaining a decent relationship with the children. If Dobson really meant what he says, he'd be doing TRUE warrior battle on the front lines and making it his mission to get Christians to overthrow America's twisted anti-family "family law" system.

Dobson deigns to pronounce which political candidates are "Christian enough" and not Christian enough (as he declared Thompson in 2008, just not Christian enough) for God and James Dobson. Years ago, I really admired and looked up to Dobson. He has fallen in my esimation. Dobson's version of "being a good Christian" stinks.

I don’t have a malfunction.

I have principles and standards and Newt doesn’t make the cut, neither does Romney, neither did Huntsman, etc...

Bachmann passed, Ron Paul passes on fiscal but fails on everything else.

Santorum is no less a big spender than Newt but Santorum has morals, ethics and is highly principled. Go listen to why Santorum supported Arlen Spector - if you UNDERSTOOD our judicial system then you would have known why he did that.

“That’s where the GOP has us today, which is why the GOP needs to go, and from it’s ashes a new party emerges. “

Exactly. If we get stuck with the likes of Romney or Newt the conservatives needs to stand together and take down the GOP. This year. This should be the stand...we are out of time. Third Party all the way.
