He doesn’t need to ask our forgiveness. He needs to ask God for forgiveness...

Obviously. Has he said that he has?

That's all I'm trying to find out here, but no one so far has answered my question.

I've seen a lot of people say it doesn't matter, others saying we need to forgive him, but I haven't seen the evidence that he has said that he's asked God's forgiveness for his egregious sins.

If anyone can provide that information, I would appreciate it.

I would imagine that before being baptized in the Catholic Church, he would've had a great deal of counseling and advice from his Catholic pastor. This would have been in a private setting. His pastor would hopefully be able to judge whether or not his repentance is sincere.

In the Catholic sacrament of confession, one goes into a private confessional booth. There has never been a public breast-beating and garment-shredding ala the Jimmy Swaggart types.

Gingich also sought and received from the Catholic Church annulments from his previous marriages so he could be married in the RCC. He has also signed a fidelity pledge.

I typed into my search engine “Has Newt Gingrich repented of adultery?” and there were links that I started to look at, including a Catholic site saying that Newt’s repentance isn’t necessarily enough, another site talking about him publicly repenting, and another talking about his pledge to not commit adultery. Another one mentioned that to become Catholic he would have had to not only repent but also “atone” for his sin. (I hope that means to show his repentance is true rather than actually to atone for sin, because only Jesus can atone for sin.)

My computer sometimes decides which websites I can visit and it’s acting up now so I wasn’t able to look at all the links, but based on what I have seen it seems like he probably has publicly repented of the sin of adultery. I was hoping to find a link which actually quoted him and I was

Ah, the page finally let me scroll down. Here’s a quote from one of the pages - by a gal who obviously dislikes Gingrich very much (at http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?hl=en&gbv=2&gs_sm=e&gs_upl=170l5838l0l6770l27l25l0l10l2l2l441l3639l0.5.5.2.2l14l0&q=cache:vV9Tr1h994oJ:http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-12-14/gingrich-no-loon-to-talk-up-trip-to-moon-commentary-by-margaret-carlson.html+Gingrich+repent+of+adultery&ct=clnk#reg|verify|%22%3C%21DOCTYPE%20html%3E%5Cn%3Chtml%3E%5Cn%20%20%3Chead%3E%5Cn%20%20%20%20%5Cn%20%20%20%20%3Cmeta%20name%3D%5C%22robots%5C%22%20content%3D%5C%22noindex%5C%22/%3E%5Cn%20%20%20%20%3Cmeta%20name%3D%5C%22csrf-param%5C%22%20content%3D%5C%22authenticity_token%5C%22/%3E%5Cn%3Cmeta%20name%3D%5C%22csrf-token%5C%22%20content%3D%5C%22klMJdAyPcXv8Wa5Xe5c+mbMyzdr7VdTb/KxGo14BflI%3D%5C%22/%3E%5Cn%20%20%20%20%3Ctitle%3ERegistration%20System%3C/title%3E%5Cn%20%20%20%20%3Cscript%20src%3D%5C%22/javascripts/jquery-1.5.1.min.js%3F1326326201%5C%22%20type%3D%5C%22text/javascript%5C%22%3E%3C/script%3E%20%5Cn%20%20%20%20%5Cn%5Cn%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%3Cscript%20src%3D%5C%22/javascripts/social/anywhere.js%3Fid%3DtSVTR7VHVcztgBl12nwQ%26v%3D1%5C%22%20type%3D%5C%22text/javascript%5C%22%3E%3C/script%3E%5Cn%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%3Cscript%20src%3D%5C%22/javascripts/social/twitter-min.js%5C%22%20type%3D%5C%22text/javascript%5C%22%3E%3C/script%3E%5Cn%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%3Cscript%20src%3D%5C%22/javascripts/main-min.js%3F1326326212%5C%22%20type%3D%5C%22text/javascript%5C%22%3E%3C/script%3E%20%20%20%20%5Cn%20%20%20%20%3Cscript%3E%5Cn%20%20%20%20%20%20%28function%28%29%20%7B%5Cn%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20var%20breg_options%20%3D%20%7B%7D%3B%5Cn%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%5Cn%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%24%28%27input%3Afirst%27%29.trigger%28%27focus%27%29%3B%5Cn%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20var%20md%20%3D%20window.location.href.match%28/rt%3D%28%5B%5E%26%5D*%29/%29%3B%5Cn%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20 ): (oh, jeesh, that URL is ridiculous. lol)

“You know the bomb thrower has serious traction over the management consultant when evangelicals overlook Gingrich’s multiple marriages punctuated by serial adultery. At the debate, Gingrich publicly repented, saying “I’ve made mistakes at times. I’ve had to go to God for forgiveness. I’ve had to seek reconciliation.” He then implied that he was too old to be the randy deceiver of yore. “But I’m also a 68-year-old grandfather,” he said. “I think people have to measure who I am now and whether I’m a person they can trust.”

Anyway, take it for what it’s worth. lol. I’m sure there are better sources of info but the consensus seems to be that Gingrich has acknowledged his sin and repented.
