........But his greatest presidential stumbling block may be right under his nose. At home, Newt's second wife, Marianne Ginther Gingrich, tells me she doesn't see herself in the First Lady's job. "Watching Hillary has just been a horrible experience," commiserates Marianne. "Hillary sticking her neck out is not working."
What happens if Newt runs?, I ask.
"He can't do it without me," she replies. "I told him if I'm not in agreement, fine, it's easy" --she giggles at her naughtiness. "I just go on the air the next day, and I undermine everything...I don't want him to be president and I don't think he should be."
Why not?
"Right now, the presidency is not a single person. It's not so much what he'd be doing. It's what I'd be doing.".........

what kills me is a woman who cheated with him on his first wife now claims victim when he cheated on her?
i have seen folks learn that lesson before
unless she has some sort of Night Porter revelation then I see this as just Drudge and the media’s hype
and it will likely force mods to give Newt more airtime..good for him...FOX attacked him on this last month debate and it helped him
Howard Kurtz let loose it looks like the Esquire article just in interview form
maybe Newt shoulda paid her more...I have found that is all that works with ex wives
I was referring to democrat adulterers
Newt is not going to trash Marianne (or get into a futile and unwinnable "he said/she said" exchange), he is likely to just defuse it the way he did before - by chalking it up to the "past mistakes in personal life that I regret" and moving on with campaign - but there is no reason why she can't be exposed here for who she is. Newt's children (two daughters) from first marriage are now in SC and may gently provide some "color" to the story, if necessary.
Her (not verbatim) line meaning "Newt said that I was a Jaguar and he needed Chevy (Callista)" is all about flattering herself and trying to taunt and hurt Callista. This woman is plain mean, cruel, pugnacious and hateful; I would doubt that Newt we know expressed anything so stupid (except, possibly, trying to flatter Marianne that she is much better than what he deserves) but it only shows that Marianne isn't very bright, and to what depths she would go to deliberatly hurt others. This definitely puts to rest any questions whether Newt is better off without her, even though the divorce cost him a lot of grief in personal and political life.
Marianne has been bitter even before she lost her meal ticket (in Newt). Threatening (including publicly, to a reporter, in 1995) to undermine his political future ("Marianne Gingrich has said she could end her ex-husband's career with a single interview") was essentially a blackmail - it was her way of trying to hold onto him and his earnings as her gravy train. They have been separated since 1987, and lived apart for six years (she lived in their house in Georgia, he lived and worked in D.C., 1987-1993) well before he met Callista (in 1993, so she couldn't have been a "home-wrecker" as many described her). Yet Newt has supported Marianne financially and kept most of his assets and money from his lectures and books in the accounts in Marianne's name until the divorce (partly because of that, most of his assets went to her). "No good deed goes unpunished."
In 1994 Newt embarked on and put all his efforts into the taking over the Congress and upon accomplishing that, after becoming Speaker, into pushing Contract With America and fighting Congressional Democrats who filed unprecedented 84(!) unfounded frivolous bogus ethics complaints against him, and getting stabbed in the back by envious and spiteful Republicans who grew comfortable in their newly found power and didn't want to "rock the boat," and instead of defending and protecting the leader chose to plot to remove him from power.
Obviously, a period of 1994-1998 had a heavy and hectic legislative and political schedule, so it was hardly a good time for Newt to be getting divorced from Marianne and getting married to Callista, whom he started dating (with intention of eventual marriage) after almost 6 years of being legally separated from Marianne.
In 1999, after the welfare reform and most of the other points of Contract With America have been passed or otherwise accomplished, and getting through the House the articles of impeachment against Bill Clinton for perjury and obstruction of justice during the Lewinsky affair investigation, tired of being a constant lightning rod for Democrats and the press, while having little support from fellow Republicans in Congress, he settled a legal filing mistake by a junior lawyer at his defense law firm (typo, miscommunication, sabotage?), resigned from Congress, finalized the divorce from Marianne (which cost Newt most of his earned assets, since they were held in accounts in Marianne's name). He married Callista in 2000 in Virginia, where they still reside. In 2009 he converted to Catholicism, Callista's life-long faith.
BTW, the chain-smoker Marianne already gave the "single" interview, to liberal Esquire magazine (Newt Gingrich: The Indispensable Republican - September 2010) and it turned out very unflattering to her. May this one, with ABC, backfire on them, as well.

Thanks very much for the excellent summary!
Pinging myself so I won’t lose it!
More: Robert Costa of NRO tweets: Newt World tells me ABC intvu is retread of Esquire piece. Negotiations have been going on since Tues. Leak to Drudge sped up airing
Something to think about If Drudge doesnt report this, it sits until after S.C. and is less of a big deal. Drudge is tight with Romney advisor (Matthew Rhoades)and has helped Romney with coverage in 2007 as McCain surging (as reported by Jim Geraghty) and 2011 (as reported by Ben Smith). Not saying Romney campaign involved, but fits Drudge pattern.
Now it all makes sense: Insider Advantage Newt up 3 pts in SC (h/t Dynamism in Tip Line)
Drudge and Coulter are friends, and share the same opinions on presidential candidates. Drudge pushed her guy last time.
You’re right...who will listen to the woman with whom he had an affair before he divorced his first wife? And, it’s very old news?
I hope he comes to the debate full of piss and vinegar...just like he did Monday. CNN said it’s going to be a free for all.
I don’t see Romney being anything other than the most white guy in the race.
Everyone should read the article. It says reams about Newt. Then jusdge for yourself.

Thank you for giving me (us) the background on Newt’s history with his ex. Of course, only people who want to give him a “thumbs up” will bother to try and learn what is true. The media will never tell the real story. Just like what they did to Herman Cain, they will swallow the woman’s story and her lies will be plastered all over the news in order to eliminate another opponent who could “take Obama out.”
Newt, himself has apologized for his past indiscretions.
She’s a big loser. I wonder how many years Newt supported her?
She clearly was a rebound marriage, and time proved it to be as erroneous as that variety of marriage often is.
Looking at the details as a trained family consultant (MS, Kansas State University, 1996), I honestly can see that Newt's first two marriages had serious flaws from the outset and really can be classified as having no basis.
I am no Roman Catholic, but I can see why the RC church found them worthy of annulment. The first was based on an illegal relationship between an older teacher and a minor; the second was a rebound from dependency to dependency.
So is Newt f**ked?
Interesting story. It explains a lot about Newt, but none of this makes him a “bad” guy by any means.
Well, for one thing Clinton was a serial predator who groped unwilling women and possibly raped one. Including while he was president. Oh yeah, and commited perjury. John Edwards had an affair while running for president, and illegally used campaign funds to support his misstress, lied about it until he was caught by reporters. Both of them commited crimes, not just moral lapses.
Newt fell in love with someone else who he subsequently married, with a woman who he now has been married to over for many years. He didn’t commit any crimes or abuse the public trust in any way. That’s the difference.
Good grief. This interview was given in 2010! If people didn’t know it would be brought up by the media at any point that it could hurt Newt, that’s just embarrassing ignorance of how things work.
And guess what?
Marianne Gingrich also in 2010 said that the Clintons know quite a bit about Newt, info that they haven’t quite shared yet. So just warning you that that also will come out at a predictable time.
The timing of a rebroadcast of a 2010 interview cannot be "dirty." What a joke.
The "dirty" in "dirty trick" refers to the content of the "trick" and the ability of the candidate, given the time restraints, to respond to it.
The content of this "trick" is not made up, whether or not anyone agrees with it. This is not Sharon from Chicago.
And Newt has had two years to get ready for this interview, and more allegations that only he knows about, to be broadcast at a time that was politically harmful to him. DUH.
That doesn't make it "dirty." This is just politics as usual. If Newt is surprised over this, wow.
Okay, I was wrong, so, anyway, thanks CutePuppy!
Okay...PBS...Gail Sheehy...those two are “are you freaking kidding me?” moments.
However, the article is dated “Vanity Fair September 1995”.
The left was in full blown nuke territory during the year that the Republicans took over the House!
I didn’t hit the abuse button, but looking through your posts, you are suspect to me.
I’ll let the mods decide if they like the cute picture with the hot car. ;o)
I’m suspect to you? What’s that supposed to mean?
I think the Sheehy article was a hit piece then and a hit piece now, but actually I think the article makes Newt look good, and that’s my point.
He talks about his love of movies etc etc. There is really a lot to this guy. And it will come out in time. Compared to SAntorum who is as much an empty suit as Obama.
The abuse button...? I have no idea what you’re talking about....
You made it onto Gateway Pundit:)
