Hollywood complaining about “abuses of power” — that’s rich. Elitist city. Hopefully a few hundred thousand “pawns” will worship Hollywood a little bit less after today’s protest. Lazy fans who won’t look outside the lamestream generated consensus for entertainment are a lot of the problem.
Movie studios, record labels and business groups
Dont they have lawyers to write out some cease and desist letters - those Chinese just need to be educated about piracy and they’ll quit...
Right?
This just in.

Scalise Pulls SOPA Sponsorship
Louisiana GOP Congressman Steve Scalise (District 1) late today announced he will be removing his name as a sponsor to the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA).
From Communications Director Stephen Bell:
Congressman Scalise is committed to stopping online piracy, and will be removing his name from SOPA while he works to ensure that the freedom of the internet is preserved.
Lincoln Parish News Online (LPNO) earlier today noted Scalises sponsorship of the controversial bill. LPNOs story was carried on two of Louisianas leading online news-sites, The Dead Pelican and The Hayride.
Each and every one of them is in someones pocket. This is why I dont just blindly vote for anyone with an (R) after their name.
Just the THREAT of this type of legislation has ALREADY moved some hosting businesses offshore because of unknown liabilities and concerns for future follow-ons.
With Obama chasing away manufacturing, and pubbies chasing away high tech IP, there wont be much left except to take in each others laundry.
Good job!
Oh really? And just who decides what websites are "legitimate?"? Kind of like banning guns that aren't deemed legitimate for sport hunting.
China won’t play nice and has gotten very bold about putting pirated stuff on sites it has at home.
At least so the story I hear goes, a story which might be severely slanted by media interests playing up a danger to far more than it is.
But Congress is too kitty cat whipped to put sanctions on China. That’s what Google is urging.
Another senator just pulled the plug.

BREAKING: Vitter Drops Support For SOPA/PIPA
“…working diligently to protect American jobs from foreign criminals”
If only they were so diligent regarding the immigration question.
I propose that we refer to illegal downloaders as "undocumented sharers." We need to bring them out of the shadows…
By the way, if Chinese sites are misbehaving like this, it might be suitable recompense to yank their DNS entries in the Western world, just like is done with serious botware/spyware/virus attacks. Then China can wail all it wants at losing the traffic till it agrees to cooperate to clean up its own act, such as accepting and acting on DMCA-type takedown notices.
uploaders instead? or too?
Leahy, the chief author of the Senate bill, said the protest is based on a misunderstanding of the legislation.Really, just a big misunderstanding? So, what's the Leaky Weasel from Vermont's position on the entire Occutardation that hit last year? The OWS a-holes had a perfect understanding of US politics and the economy?
The Motion Picture Association of America called the protests an "abuse of power" aimed at turning Web users into "corporate pawns."I can't post what I would like to post in response that the MPAA's demagogic statement -- but point out that the MPAA's mouthpiece is Chris Dodd.
This was all just a ploy to get folks mad at “Congress”.
Whenever Hussein’s ratings are in the toilet, Big Media likes to tell us how bad “Congress”’s ratings are.
They created a phony issue and put Republicans on the “wrong” side, inconvenienced us with “black”ened websites and told us all to be mad at “Congress”.
Peas of Sh!t Hussein Heads.
“Reps. Ben Quayle (Ariz.)...”
Sounds like a DYNASTY in the making.
I do not pretend to understand this bill. But the gist of it seems to be that entities or persons protected by copyright want internet entities they deem to be pirates to be sanctioned by websites where they appear. No?
There is already a remedy for pirates and that is to sue them. No?
IMHO this is another piece of misguided and useless legislation. It tells me a bunch about the conservative/Pubbie Congress critters who sponsored the bill and/or otherwise support it.
My God, we have a Usurping Marxist in the WH trying to destroy the country and this is what they’re spending their time on in Washington? What other word could describe them but dumb?
Go Issa! And FULS.
Pelosi and Jackson-Lee are against this bill. I wonder if there is something wrong with it or they didn't get their "appropriate" kickbacks. Oh yeah, that little b*tch Cornyn is still supporting it as of 1930 this PM.
We got Sen. Vitter, Rep. Scalise, and Rep. Alexander smoked off the bills today.
I figure Mary Landrieu will fold tomorrow.
