The Turkish newspaper Zaman reported Tuesday that Turkish intelligence has warned that Iran’s Revolutionary Guard is planning attacks on the American embassy and American consulates throughout the country.
According to the report, Turkey’s security forces have warned police in all 81 districts throughout the country, informing them that they must remain alert.
The report states that according to Turkish intelligence, it is likely that a cell of the Quds Unit of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard is planning to break into the U.S. Embassy or one of its consulates. The intelligence further stated that the cell is planning on staying at a five-star hotel in the city in which the attack is being planned, cautioning forces to focus on foreigners residing in those hotels.

If Turkish Intelligence suggests the cell is already in Turkey and holing up in a 5-star hotel then this cell is likely ready to operate.
Now that they have been outed, will Iran call it off or push forward?
Or maybe the real target is somewhere else?

Why hasn't Turkish military “disappeared” the Iranian terrorist? Is this their way of avoiding getting blood on their hands by hoping that the Iranians will back down?
If so, doesn't sound like a very assertive stance on protecting those within Turkey's borders.

From what I’ve read it seems like Turkey has learned of the plot but there is nothing to indicate that the Quds have already crossed into Turkey or that their location is known.
Either the intel is false and is meant to draw attention away from the real target in another country or the intel is real and Turkey has leaked it to the media to spoil the plot.
Maybe they will be on their way home soon.

As much as understanding that Iran is dangerous is a good thing, I cannot predict the source, but I expect this is disinformation.
Turkey and Iran may comprise populations where one is uber dominant with Sunni Muslims - Turkey, and one is uber dominant with Shiite Muslims, Iran; and one is run by a theocratic dicatorship with a prostrated legislature (Iran), and the other is run by a democratically elected Islamic-party majority (Turkey), in Middle East geopolitical gamesmanship, they have been cooperating more than ever before in recent years.
Iran will not risk its warming relations with Turkey just to “strike at the U.S.”. I think, for whatever purpose on whomever’s part, this “warning” is disinformation.

I have no idea or “evidence” about the sources, nor am I certain, with any justification, that the information is good intelligence or that it is disinformation.
I am only questioning it because relations between Turkey and Iran have been warming, considerably, in recent years, and the greater part of the initiative has been from Turkey, and the greater part of the benefit has been to Iran.
I simply question that most of Iran’s leaders want to do anything that would inspire Turkey to reverse that course.
Maybe, if this is truly good intelligence, and not disinformation, the suspected actions reflect another circumstance of a hinted growing divide (opinions on tactices and direction) between a majority of the clerics and Iran’s radical military faction.
If that is the case, and actual arrests in Turkey of Iranian agents were to take place, we might see more evidence - coming out of Iran - of tensions between rival factions in the Iranian regime. If so, that would be a good thing, at least in the short term.

Good analysis! If correct, it suggests to me that the information/disinformation came from a source that wants to reverse Turkey’s headlong rush into Sharia — either the Mossad or secular elements in the Turkish military.

I disagree with you, only in this one way.
If it were true, as your position suggests, that the information may be disinformation, and may have been sourced from within Turkey’s military, my sense is that the MOTIVE would not be related to Turkey’s domestic policies (Sharia related) as much as it would be to it’s foreign policy and particularly it’s recently more friendly relations with Iran.
With their long history inside NATO, I imagine Turkey’s military contains many who do not want a Turkey-Iran alliance, for any reason. I suspect they - the military - prefers better relations with the Saudis than with Iran, regardless of how much in fact the radical Wahabi fundamentalism in Saudi Arabia differs only in its Sunni origins as opposed to the Shia origins of Iran’s radicals.
Again, if its not disinformation, I expect growing evidence of friction between the ruling factions in Iran, will begin to appear, steming from Turkey’s actions against Iranian operatives in Turkey. I would expect a majority within Iran’s factions will want to repair any rift with Turkey that may develop from this.
That said, as long as Iran would act quickly to make such repairs, I would expect to see Turkey resume the course of warming relations with Iran, once the tensions of the day had time to die down.
For us, we may only have a brief time to exploit - to our advantage - any factional rifts in Iran or any great Turkey-Iran rift.
