From Public Policy Polling, this is really bad news for Rick Perry -- although at this point it cannot be unexpected:
Rick Perry's Presidential campaign is doing about as bad in Texas now as it is everywhere else in the country. When PPP last polled the state in September he was at 49%, leading Mitt Romney by 39 points. Now Perry's support has declined by 31 points, leaving him in 3rd place at 18%. Mitt Romney at 24% and Newt Gingrich at 23% lead the way with Rick Santorum at 15%, Ron Paul at 12%, and Buddy Roemer at 0% rounding out the field behind Perry.
What might be most shocking on this poll is that Romney edges Perry 46-45 if Republican voters had to pick just between the two of them. When we asked that identical question four monhs ago Perry led Romney 72-18. There's been a 55 point shift in Romney's direction.

FWIW, I find Rick Perry more entertaining than Ron Paul. And far more sane.
Curious about your guys’ opinions on this!
Perry’s been done for a long time. I was astonished he didn’t withdraw. I guess he really wanted to help RINO Romney by splitting the vote. Either that or he really is as stupid as he comes across.
I’m amazed at the continuing concerted effort to get Perry out of this race. As Rush said, liberals will tell you who they’re afraid of.
Perry is polling so low that I don’t think he hurts anyone else in the race. He is a non-factor.
He really is as stupid as he comes across though.
I have been thinking about it for awhile now ... and I have come to the conclusion that Perry stayed in to gain experience with debating for another run in 2016 where he will be the next in line.
This is one of the most astounding examples of self-delusion I've ever seen.
Personally, I'm amazed at the continuing concerted effort by Perry to get Perry out of this race.
As a Texan, this is not surprising. Two elections back he got only 39% of the vote in a four-person field. Perry is the default candidate here - if he ever had a decent opponent, he’d be gone in the primary.
Remember the Alamo?...
I supported Perry, but it does look like he’s near the end of the road.
Perry won the debate last night...it’s no where near the end of the road yet.
60% of those polls said they approve of Perry’s performance as Governor.
polls = polled
Yep.
Romney’s the pick in my beloved home state??
What’s the world coming to!
And Mitt’s the pick in SC and FL.
There would be your story.
Just a guess, but for those who might say they won’t vote for Rick who were formerly supportive, they might be sick of him casting the pearls of Texas before the swine who prefer to ignore what he and we have wrought here, and would prefer he stop and come back home.
That said, there’s no excuse for a plurality of Texas Republicans to pick Romney.
That would say far more about what is wrong with them than it would say about Perry.
Just like the misplaced glee in your post, along with your missing the key story of Romney surging among southern Republicans, says more about you than anyone else...
Newt won the debate last night, but Perry did very well. Too bad we didn’t see this Perry early on.
PPP was around long before they did any polling for Daily Kos, and they are on average an accurate pollster (the fact that they had Perry leading overwhelmingly back when they originally polled TX should clue you into that).
