FWIW, I find Rick Perry more entertaining than Ron Paul. And far more sane.
Curious about your guys’ opinions on this!
Perry’s been done for a long time. I was astonished he didn’t withdraw. I guess he really wanted to help RINO Romney by splitting the vote. Either that or he really is as stupid as he comes across.
Remember the Alamo?...
I supported Perry, but it does look like he’s near the end of the road.
Romney’s the pick in my beloved home state??
What’s the world coming to!
And Mitt’s the pick in SC and FL.
There would be your story.
Just a guess, but for those who might say they won’t vote for Rick who were formerly supportive, they might be sick of him casting the pearls of Texas before the swine who prefer to ignore what he and we have wrought here, and would prefer he stop and come back home.
That said, there’s no excuse for a plurality of Texas Republicans to pick Romney.
That would say far more about what is wrong with them than it would say about Perry.
Just like the misplaced glee in your post, along with your missing the key story of Romney surging among southern Republicans, says more about you than anyone else...
Perry won’t even be in the hunt anymore by the time Texas has its primary.
This poll just shows me that Texans have bought into the media’s Perry is not electable meme. His 60% approval rating does not transfer to votes because they have been told over and over he can’t beat Obama which is completely untrue. I’m just not seeing what you find humorous about the media leading GOP voters over a cliff with Romney?
Who’s Buddy Roemer? And why is his name in the poll?
Great message (the federalism part, anyway), flawed messenger. Sigh.
"Buddy Roemer at 0%"
Yep. Can't help but chuckle at that.
It’s embarrasing. Perry should exit gracefully and throw his support to Newt or Santorum if he believes his own rhetoric about not nominating a flawed candidate.
Perry did well last night and has found his legs lately. However, he blew his campaign when he declared he was going back to Texas to “reassess” his campaign after Iowa. That is code for “dropping out” and people summarily dismissed him. The next day, he announced it was “on to South Carolina”...but by skipping NH, he further became irrelevant. It’s a shame, too, because Perry is probably the most likable of the remaining candidates and perhaps the most conservative as well. His folksy personality would have served him well in the general election. In any case, he is done after SC...no doubt about it.
Seriously, Rick, it’s time to drop out and concede to Newt. At this point, all Perry can do is help hand it all to Romney.
Why is Rick Perry still running?
Huntsman was working for Romney and he dropped out in SC so that Romney could win. That means that the margin for Romney is expected to be razor thin.
The votes Perry takes from the other candidates will be crucial for a Romney victory. Romney needs Perry.
Of course. No one I know here likes him. No one.
I’m a Newtist, and didn’t know Perry from Adam until he entered the race last year. First impression...auuughhhhhhhh :(
But he grows on you. I think he had problems of some sort after back surgery, and the timing was just wrong for him to enter the presidential race while physically under par.
Since then, though, he has gotten better. I like the way he is able to pivot in a discussion that has gone into the weeds; he is able to snap it to a more interesting and appropriate pathway, and he seems to have a knack for knowing just when to do it. The man will never be a great rhetorician but we now see some of the skills that brought him to high office.
Besides that, his conservative credentials are substantial and IMO more so than Santorum’s. Santorum just hasn’t the heft, the alpha gene if you will; and his track record is rather spotty. Perry, otoh, has been running TEXAS.
