Conservatives did coalesce around Newt four weeks back. Newt had a huge lead over Mitt. Then the propaganda and the media spooked some and now we have a split. Isn't this great.

If only Mitt didn’t fight dirty - Newt could be president. /sarc. How many times have I heard this excuse? Politics is war, FreeReign. Politics is War. If Newt couldn’t stand up to scrutiny, then it’s a good thing we found out now.

You missed my point Ben.

I wasn't just blaming the producers of the propaganda, Mitt, the media...etc.

I was blaming the conservatives, who fell for it, half of whom switched their support from one 90% conservative candidate to another 90% candidate.

Newt had a huge lead over Mitt. Now we have Mitt leading a split of Newt and Santorum.

As I said, the propaganda and the media spooked some and now we have a split. Isn't this great./

IMHO, Romney will be the nominee. It’s just a matter of time. At the Convention, he’ll select a Vice President with solid conservative credentials - probably from the South or West. Then everybody on here will decide they can live with Romney.

Our talk radio conservatives sat on the fence and yes Sarah Palin stringed us around for so long that other true and tested conservatives stayed out of the race. Deny all you want, this is now the reality.

Your argument is illogical. First you state that the problem was that we had too many conservatives in the race (splitting the non-Romney mote), then you go on to say that Sarah Palin prevented additional conservatives from getting into the race. So we would be better off with even more conservatives in the race how?

Also, Sarah Palin didn't string anybody along. It was her supporters that were projecting and raising expectations that she would eventually get into the race. I remember a few months ago people on the Internet getting all excited over a rumor that she was going to announce on some obscure morning-zoo radio show up in Alaska. The rampant speculation was crazy and out of control. But none of it was Sarah's doing.

We had some real conservatives in the race. Michelle Bachmann, Rick Santorum and Herman Cain to name a few. I guess none of them was perfect enough for us so here we are faced with yet another milquetoast RINO as a result.

I can’t believe you called Santorum a pro-life socialist and referenced a blog that said no such thing. S - t - r - e - t - c - h - i - n - g things a bit, aren’t you?

If that’s your best anti-Santorum argument, you lose.

“I was blaming the conservatives, who fell for it, half of whom switched their support from one 90% conservative candidate to another 90% candidate.”

Aah. So because your candidate sucks you rage at the folks who saw through Newt?

Here’s what I think - and maybe it’s just me.

Newt’s high numbers were from moderates who wanted to support a winner. When Newt missed out on VA - moderates picked up the scent of loser, bailed and went with Romney.

Then, when the Iowa polls started to come out, the conservatives (who never really liked Newt and were only backing him because he was the only credible one), pulled out and supported Santorum, dropping newt from 30+ percent, to 10 percent where he sits now, the same folks that have been backing Newt since day one.

Now, we have Newt begging people to vote for him in the South, and his poll numbers are eroding there too.

“Isn’t this great.”

I think it’s terrible. But then, I am supporting the conservative who won in Iowa. What’s your excuse for pushing a split on conservatives when we have a better option available?

Well, it could be here as early as tomorrow. I’m seeing that Intrade has declared Romney the winner already - which is the usual ‘Caveat emptor’. ;)

Good to know that intrade prices against longshot upsets by going with whatever the media announces is true the night of the election.

I wonder if they would have done the same in Bush/Gore, I suspect they would have refused to pay out, and nobody would have won. ;)

Stop watching Faux news and reading the media's "polls." You'll feel much better.

LOL, what?

Do me a favor Ben. Don't put words in my mouth, you're not smart enough.

Thanks.

My point stands.

This bogus poll only sampled 356 Republicans? I call BS.

Pardon me, 365 Republicans, not 356. But still a relatively tiny sample.

If Romney wins the nomination it does prove one thing. It proves beyond the shadow of a doubt that we (conservatives) are the true RINO’s.

Fox and other pundants are enabling another win for Obama.

Fox News would probably make more money with Obama in the White House. Lot more viewers when the opposition is running things.

Certainly true. It’s unfortunate there is not a candidate we all could agree on supporting.

I'm going to put the Palin 2012 bumper sticker back in the rear window of my pickup and that may well be the last involvement I have with the 2012 election.

I agree with you and I would vote for mitt over zero. But, that being said, I am not under any illusion that mittens will be able to stem the decline this country faces. mitt is not the movement conservative that this country desparately needs. We are in a similar position to 3rd century Rome. Perhaps, a placeholder and technocrat like romney will give us enough time for a real conservative to emerge.
A second zero term poses the real threat of imminent collapse, violence and a hard tyranny.
